So what are these snacks you all are serving/providing to the kids? I refuse to be in kitchen duty from 3-6 between snack retrieval and dinner prep. They eat goldfish/popcorn and apples mostly but I need something that actually fills them up. ETA: and something that they can serve themselves! My kids eat apples and crackers, but I have friends who give cheese, meat and crackers or mini sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls. When they used to have a big snack that effected their dinner, I’d think of their snack as part of dinner. So if they had a bunch of fruit, I didn’t count on them eating much fruit with dinner. This is where I confess my kids eat fruit at every meal and few vegetables, we are working on it. Beef sticks would be easy and filling.

Are anyone else's kids coming home from school super saturated and irritable? I know they don't have any stamina after a year and a half of virtual but damn, they are dangling by a thread for the first hour after pickup and so volatile Mine is hungry for sure! Luckily she gets a snack at Y after care, but tonight she said she ate the snack I packed her for lunch because she couldn’t remember her 7 digit student number! 🥺 I just wrote it out for her in several locations. She got used to it on the name tag they had the first few weeks.

Thankfully for me the Portuguese understand stand snacks. I just realized we are like hobbits as we have words for breakfast, lunch and dinner but also mid-mornibg snack (meia), afternoon snack (lanche) and late afternoon snack (ceia). Though we usually eat dinner at 8, which is early by PT standards. The snacks are small but my kids rarely complain about hunger so that's good.

Here too - schools have a set morning snack time and in their after school program they get afternoon snack. And they're still ready for a little snack when they get home at 4

So I’m DDs class she gets “lunch” at 1030. Snack at 1. She actually really prefers that. Like she says it on a list of the best things about her school. She isn’t always super hungry when she gets up so having lunch a few hours later works.
She gets home before me. Our nanny is there but usually DD cooks herself a grilled cheese at about 245. Then when I get home around 430 we start dinner soon after so it is ready at 6.
Amazingly this schedule works for us. When she was a toddler I fed her dinner at 430. She went to bed by 630. So this is way better. 🤣

If you have Happy Masks, do you plan to replace them? If so, when?
We are coming up soon on the wait list. Currently, DD has 4, so I "wash" 1 and she rewears 1 each week. I'm going to get her and DS, who doesn't go places too often, another one each. They're so freaking expensive, but of course I want her as safe as possible. Masks are mandated inside here and the desks in her classroom are distanced to the extent possible.

I’m guessing she didn’t tell anyone because she was ashamed. Food is free this year for everyone, so it shouldn’t matter if she could remember it or not! She’s in K, so school in general has been an adjustment to know what she can ask for help with. She has come home and told me she didn’t tell the teacher about falling and getting a scrape. I keep telling her it’s ok to ask for help.

That stinks that no one noticed she didn't eat. 7 digits is a long number for a K student to remember! When my oldest was in K she fell off the monkey bars at last recess and BROKE HER WRIST and she didn't tell anyone 🤦🏻♀️ She was worried she would get into trouble.

Masks are mandated inside here and the desks in her classroom are distanced to the extent possible. I don't happy mask, but addymac graciously sent us some KN95s. My goal is to make them last or find some more to last until 6 weeks after the children's vaccine is available. Overcompensating on the time-line a bit. I hope for the vaccine by Halloween, then if it follows similar time line as adults, 3-4 weeks before the 2nd shot and then 2 weeks from then for full effect. So I'm counting on like 10 weeks. Its a goal. We can make it 10 more weeks. We just have to. Its something to hold on to. That's my goal too. Once my kids are fully vaccinated we won't be making them wear masks anymore unless it's required. Maybe that's flameful but 🤷🏻♀️ My kids have 3 happy masks each and I'm hoping to make them last until that point. The website says something like 2 months of daily use? So I figure we can get several months alternating between the 3. We also have 2 enro masks and 3 more on the way.

Huge TW on this. Don’t read it if you’re in a bad covid head space.
This is just incredible and I wonder how much of this is happening around the country.

jaygee, that is absolutely terrifying. My mother fell and broke her shoulder earlier this year. It took almost 48 hours to get her a hospital bed and then several DAYS to get to have to surgery. This was only during the "regular" surge this winter; I can't imagine how much worse it is right now.

Huge TW on this. Don’t read it if you’re in a bad covid head space. This is just incredible and I wonder how much of this is happening around the country. I broke my leg July 4, and when I went to the hospital they had the ER triaged so that injuries were handled in an overflow that is usually used for shock trauma patients. If you felt ill at all, you were in the ‘main’ ER. I was x rayed and referred to surgery in under 2 hours ( my BP was also sky high, so I went back really fast). Discharged to home on July 6. Two weeks later, just 14 days later, that was no longer happening. The whole ER was filling with covid, and I’m in an area that’s 78% vaxxed! If I had just happened to slip down a hill July 18th, I would have possibly had to wait weeks to get my ankle back together, which would likely result in lifelong arthritis or worse since the very bad fracture wasn’t visualized on the x ray. I wasn’t at risk of dying, but other people’s decisions could have irrevocably changed my life. And people wonder why people are angry

This absolute horror show is why I cannot abide by antivaxxers. I will not give them the time of day anymore. I avoid the one unvaccinated coworker I have. I give her curt pleasantries when I need to. That's it.

jaygee Thank you for sharing. That is my biggest fear here in NM with majority of family living far from the large hospitals. I feel like sending this to them and my bosses. My ILs are traveling to Europe next month. They had planned it for last year and rescheduled, but I assumed they would reschedule again given reality. However they really want to visit this weekend before they go next weekend. I said no as we will decide when to make one trip to see all grandparent sets outside. It doesn't feel right that they will travel 2 hours to see us outside somewhere. I continue to be fearful that we would bring Covid to family with my DH working at so many job sites and kiddo in school. They just brush it off, no big deal.

Once DD is vaxxed my current plan is that we no longer wear masks outdoors, or indoors in small groups with people we trust (e.g., visiting a friend or relative), but will still wear them indoors in crowded places through the winter.

I’m genuinely curious as to this reasoning because of how delta has changed the game.

I’m genuinely curious as to this reasoning because of how delta has changed the game. Outdoors is still generally considered lower risk to my understanding. By people we trust I mean people we know are sane and vaccinated (and boosted if they are eligible and want one). DH and I are both boosted, and my parents plan to do so soon. (I need to remind them again.) The risk for most kids is *in most cases* still fairly low, so I feel like once DD is vaccinated the risk will be extremely low. Anywhere that isn't a house visit with vaccinated family/friends we would still wear masks through the winter and/or until Delta gets under control. And of course if anyone wants us to wear a mask we would obviously do so without complaint. ETA: We are also in an area with a fairly high vax rate (64.1% total pop/76.4% adults fully vaxxed in my state, 68% total pop/81% adults fully vaxxed in my town)

Multiple instances (2 that I’m sure of) in my tiny county. The treating doctor who finally sent patients multiple states away has shared this info multiple times with the school board and has been ignored. He is the PCP for multiple people I know and is in burn it down mode. He is inciting our elderly by telling them about how, if he he has to ration healthcare, it will affect them. He has also shared exactly how many people we can actively treat for something like this, and it is a very small number.

We have trust issues and people are nasty! I know, I'm kind of torn about it but I feel like they have sacrificed so much I want to give them something. I'm sure I'll be insanely nervous about it and possibly change my mind. I definitely don't trust people around here. My kids actually prefer the happy masks and the enro masks over the old navy ones we used to use so if they do wear masks we will keep using those

I also put myself on the Enro waiting list because the ones I bought were too big. I felt like that way we'd have more on hand as needed for replacements. I don't think I've moved at all on the Happy Masks waiting list after a couple of weeks so I'm assuming it's going to be awhile.
