We all got our flu shots on Saturday. I decided to try the Walgreens right by our house instead of taking the kids to their pedi's vaccine clinic since it's closer. I did not account for all the waiting around at Walgreens and filling out all the paperwork. It's a quick in and out at the doc's office, so we'll be back there next time.

Where did you get their flu vaccinations? MH and I are debating calling the pediatrician vs going to cvs for K. We're getting ours (the grown ups) at cvs. They got them at our pedi’s vaccine clinic. It was in and out in less than 5 minutes for the two of them, which was ideal. Then we hit up DQ for ice cream cones. I’m planning to get mine at Target for the $5 back. I would happily do the same with the kids next year and let them use the $ on a toy, but E wasn’t quite ready this year. She was very nervous going in. My 4YO was super nervous before his flu shot too and I felt better having a pediatric nurse do the shot vs. a pharmacist. Maybe when they're older we'll start doing Target. (Also my kid hasn't been inside a target in 2 years.)

I did not account for all the waiting around at Walgreens and filling out all the paperwork. It's a quick in and out at the doc's office, so we'll be back there next time. We did the same thing, in part because our dr wasn’t scheduling flu shots until next week. We made an appointment and filled out the paperwork ahead of time, and STILL had to wait around for 45 minutes. Then the pharmacist couldn’t do the vaccine in my kids thighs like they are used to and my big kid freaked out. He kept jumping and the pharmacist kept stopping. He ended up getting stuck three different times before finally getting the vaccine in. My little was traumatized by her brothers screaming and the blood that we had to hold her down too. The whole store stared at us as we left.

Apparently some members of my family are on the hunt for ivermectin for my grandmother.
My grandma is very sensitive to a wide array of medications and is apparently convinced the vaccine will straight up kill her. And these family members agree because they are anti-vax to begin with. The leap to "so ivermectin is a good alternative" is fucking killing me. #1 you don't know how she will react to the medication, which is your whole beef with the vaccine, so STFU. and #2 there's no proven benefit ,so in the risk-benefit analysis it's completely stupid. And no, she won't listen to a doctor about any of this. Even if she took her concerns to her doctor and he reassured her it was safe she would ignore the advice.
I found out last night and it sent me on an anxiety spiral. I really need to go back to avoiding conversations with my family.
At least they are planning on human ivermectin? UGH.
I'm debating calling my grandma but I really don't know what to do here. I'm just a grandchild and nobody GAF what I think. And this is the same grandma who sent me an email that my dead grandpa would be ashamed of me for not being a Republican so literally nothing I say would matter. Fuck.

Are anyone else's kids coming home from school super saturated and irritable? I know they don't have any stamina after a year and a half of virtual but damn, they are dangling by a thread for the first hour after pickup and so volatile

Then by the time we walk home and she gets a shower (a requirement during COVID), it is almost 4. She is super irritable until she eats. (Then of course she'll want a huge snack and then not be hungry for dinner. *facepalm*)

They come home and eat every thing in sight then are too full for dinner. I’ve tried to move dinner up but MH can’t get done with work until 530.

I'm pretty sure the baby finally gave me a daycare germ. I haven't been sick since Christmas, so this blows. I'm supposed to run a marathon on Sunday, my first in person race since before the pandemic. Stupid universe. At least I hope it's daycare germs. I was very tempted to go to the school nurse today and ask her to rapid swab me. Also, I got the joy of eavesdropping on one of my seventh graders in study hall today face timing with another kid who is out on quarantine and was getting tested later in the day. Watching him try to demonstrate over facetime how the brain swab worked and explaining about not being allowed to come to school with a pending tests was weirdly cute and sad. I really like the kid who was in my study hall trying to calm his buddy down. He's very sweet kid. But my gosh, life is just too much right now. Also, my kids all get flu shots tomorrow. It's been on our calendar for two weeks. So what does my stupid husband do? Make an appointment to go put a down payment on a new truck at literally the EXACT same time tomorrow as the kid's shots. Like dude, dafaq with that? You're going to make me take three kids for shots on my own? I'm very cranky.

The first couple of weeks were a little tough with afternoon attitudes, but it seems like aside from being starving at 430, they are pretty settled. The hardest thing is after we walk home, it’s not quite even 3 pm and DH and I have to keep working. Afternoons are long and they can get a bit bored. The nice weather is helping a bit at least.

I used to bring snack in the car for the 10 minute drive home because otherwise the kids were fighting and I was yelling. Immediate snack solved the problem.

I try to give my 8 year old space in the afternoon - if he’s grumpy, I’ll suggest he chills in his room. He definitely needs time to decompress when he gets home from school. I’m just glad we’re not dealing with homework for him yet.
His ADHD meds suppress his appetite a fair amount at lunchtime, so he eats very little at school and is then ravenous in the afternoon and evening. He eats a big afterschool snack along with a full dinner too.

So what are these snacks you all are serving/providing to the kids? I refuse to be in kitchen duty from 3-6 between snack retrieval and dinner prep. They eat goldfish/popcorn and apples mostly but I need something that actually fills them up.
ETA: and something that they can serve themselves!

I’d come home from track practice and eat my dinner at 4:45 or whenever. Then I’d have a small snack or a second dinner (same meal) later that night.

We have a long commute so I usually have a “car snack” for the ride home. Nothing super filling, but enough to satisfy temporarily like pretzels, carrots, grapes, etc.
