DD1 has a bad cough, which I think is probably allergies, but got to keep girls home anyways. Oh, a testing we must go. Vaccine cannot come soon enough Hello yesterday me. We are all home with what I'm hoping is a bad cold. Kids are doing better than yesterday and waiting on test results. DD's teacher was on it with at-home assignments. I was impressed.

Our schools are still mandating that vaccinated middle/high schoolers wear masks so I'm not foreseeing anything different happening immediately post-vaccine. I have wondered what metric they would eventually use for stopping the mandate - % of kids vaccinated, case #s?
Even if there wasn't a mandate, my kids will continue to wear masks through the winter at least because I envision that being a local surge for those of us up north.

It's annoying because I know what it is. We get a seasonal bronchitis as an allergic reaction when the weather starts to get colder. But I'm still being careful about everything because what if I'm wrong?

We will definitely keep masking. It's required in all buildings in the state right now, but I don't trust other people.

If you have Happy Masks, do you plan to replace them? If so, when? We are coming up soon on the wait list. Currently, DD has 4, so I "wash" 1 and she rewears 1 each week. I'm going to get her and DS, who doesn't go places too often, another one each. They're so freaking expensive, but of course I want her as safe as possible. Masks are mandated inside here and the desks in her classroom are distanced to the extent possible. I just put myself on their waiting list as we have 4 for each kid too. I also put myself on the Enro waiting list because the ones I bought were too big. I felt like that way we'd have more on hand as needed for replacements. I don't think I've moved at all on the Happy Masks waiting list after a couple of weeks so I'm assuming it's going to be awhile. Yeah I've been on the Happy Masks waiting list for over a month now. I haven't checked lately to see if we are getting any closer. The Enro waiting list went pretty quickly for me, less than a week I think. My older prefers the enro masks and they are cheaper.

We'll be wearing our masks FOREVER (not really, but it feels like that). I work in retail, so gross people. H works at a university, so gross people. And DS is in school, so all the normal school germs available. During cold and flu season from now on, we'll be wearing masks. At the very least, it will help my anxiety.
And honestly, it's nice not to have to worry about make up or people telling me to smile. And I work customer service, so now I don't have to have such good control of my RBF. No customer service fake smiles!

We tend to avoid indoor public places during the winter anyway because I've always been worried about the flu and stomach flu.
We definitely will keep masking in certain situations like the doctors office, etc.

I love wearing a mask. I'll probably keep it up through next February at least because that's probably about when DS would be 2 weeks post second shot. Hopefully earlier than that, but it's cold here through February and my mask keeps my face warmer lol.

Yes they seem to run really big. We got xxs and they are still a little big on my (small) 5 year old. They almost fit me! And I have a fat face. I was thinking of getting one for myself because I really like them.

I like wearing a mask out in public because then people avoid/don't talk to me. A socially anxious introvert's dream! 😂

I walk to work most of the time, so during the winter last year it was so nice to keep my face warm and not fog up my glasses like when I wear a scarf.

We definitely will keep masking in certain situations like the doctors office, etc. I've learned not everyone did this. I've always been more careful during high germ seasons. My husband and I got the stomach flu really bad about 8 years ago. Ever since then especially I have been super cautious. Especially since most hand sanitizer and cleaners don't kill norovirus.

I have Christmas train fabric for my kid that I never got around to using last year! ETA: Also sad because I didn't think I'd still be using it for masks this year.

Yeah I think this is how I feel, too. Even when we’re outside if anyone’s around we mask. Of course if we’re at the park far away from anyone else or playground and no other kid is there, he doesn’t have to, but I don’t foresee the vaccine changing that for us. Delta gives no fucks and I don’t want even a mild version of it.

Both kids tests are negative! I thought that was likely but it's been 18 months since any of us were sick so it's a doozy of a cold.

My goal is to make them last or find some more to last until 6 weeks after the children's vaccine is available. Overcompensating on the time-line a bit. I hope for the vaccine by Halloween, then if it follows similar time line as adults, 3-4 weeks before the 2nd shot and then 2 weeks from then for full effect. So I'm counting on like 10 weeks. Its a goal. We can make it 10 more weeks. We just have to. Its something to hold on to. That was kind of my thinking too. If she's going to be vaccinated soon, then I won't worry as much if her mask isn't the most protective possible.

I was originally number 26k. Then they changed the system, and I started at 9k, and I'm now 3k. That's been a good 6 weeks. I should be in the next group. And that's what's making me nervous. Is it always going to take a long-ish amount of time to get a replacement if I feel like it's warranted? I wish I knew how effective those masks were after the 250 hours/50 washes (and is it 1 or the other?!). Sigh, just another thing to be anxious about and make decision fatigue worse.

I've seen stories over the last few weeks about Moderna going for a different booster dosage, and looks like that may be so. My second does did put me down for about 24 hours, so hoping the booster will be the same, or maybe easier. I'm assuming I'll be in the booster group based on some health issues. ...The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is leaning toward authorizing half-dose booster shots of the Moderna Inc. coronavirus vaccine, satisfied that it’s effective in shoring up protection, people familiar with the matter said.... www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/fda-leans-toward-authorizing-moderna-booster-at-a-half-dose/ar-AAOVYJv?ocid=BingNewsSearch

My second Moderna dose had me on the couch for two days. My headache the first day was the worst, but I had every "typical" side effect for at least 36 hours. Still better than Covid, and I will likely be getting the booster eventually, but not feeling like crap for days would be nice.

I was able to buy some Enro masks for the kids last night. Is there normally a waiting list, or is that just for certain patterns/sizes? I’m hoping the XXS fits DD (4yo). She has a small face and it’s been tricky to find filtered masks that don’t gape and come in pink. 😬
DS and I have mostly been wearing Gap 3 layer contoured masks (https://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=738502) with 2.5 um filters from Vida.com. I really like the Gap masks - they are sturdy with three layers of tight cotton weave and a nose piece and should be good protection on their own once the kids are vaccinated. The Vida filters are the most breathable 2.5um filters I’ve found and they fit perfectly in the Gap masks. You can reuse them up to 7 times, so we’ve been doing one a week.

Yeah we have that problem too, they come home ravenous super close to dinner When I was young I’d have one snack when I got home and then dinner later but then once I was older my mom just made our dinner super early. I’d come home from track practice and eat my dinner at 4:45 or whenever. Then I’d have a small snack or a second dinner (same meal) later that night. I used to do this when H was never home but they get home around 430 and dinner is at 530 so I just throw a snack at them. DD usually just finishes her packed lunch.

Im an idiot. I scheduled a saliva test and have been drinking my tea. I totally forgot about the no eating or drinking for an hour but now it’s only half an hour. So I had to push my appt back half an hour. It’s fine. I’m just a moron. 🤦🏻♀️ Im 99% sure it’s not CV and I’m 70% sure it’s not strep, just allergies or a cold and post nasal drip irritation but blah. At least I could get a saliva test scheduled at work cuz the brain swab at my pcp I couldn’t get in until Saturday!
