CDC authorizes wider Pfizer booster. I think people are going to be confused (and some will spin this into an anti-vax argument, I'm sure), but I think Walensky made a good call. Moderna under review as I understand it, and J&J info to come. ... But Walensky disagreed and put that recommendation back in, noting that such a move aligns with the Food and Drug Administration's Pfizer booster authorization decision earlier this week. The category she included covers people who live in institutional settings that increase their risk of exposure, such as prisons or homeless shelters, as well as health care workers..... www.cbsnews.com/news/pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-booster-shots-seniors-cdc-endorse/

School districts around here have had litigation brought by parents and have received temporary restraining orders where basically the school can't force mask wearing. They've also fought that a school can't quarentine, only a health department can. It's sooo frustrating.

I can’t imagine a world that I sued the school district because I disagreed with something. It’s just not something I’ve ever considered.

Don't mind me. I'm just over here pouting about a third shot. I'll do it, but ugh. Right? I felt like total shit after both. The first dose was a fever and felt pretty shitty for about 36 hours. The second one wore me out for 2-3 days, but I just felt under the weather. It really kicked DS1's (16) ass. It was 3+ days of extreme fatigue and body aches. The second dose was worse than the first, but no fever with either.

Our schools have so much extra money to deal with courts too... 😔

TW: Update to previous post {Spoiler}We got a follow-up email that it has been confirmed that she was COVID-positive at the time of her death. But she also had underlying conditions that "could have contributed". But what the fuck does that matter? A child died.
I'm raging again that our superintendent turned down the opportunity from the county to have vaccination clinics at our high school and middle school. (According to him, it was widely available to anyone who wanted it so it wasn't necessary.) But perhaps the convenience and implicit endorsement from the district would have encouraged her parents to get her vaccinated, and saved this child's life. And I STILL haven't gotten a reply about screening testing in the district. I'm definitely going to be at next week's BOE meeting asking questions.

That’s so sad geekygirly. I’m so sick of people trying to minimize or downplay covid deaths because someone had underlying health issues. Having health issues doesn’t make somebody’s life any less valuable or their death any less sad. I know you all know this. It’s just depressing how people seem to have such little empathy.

DD2 has never been a mask fan. But today, I put it on and we counted to 3 and took it off. Later, we did it again and she wanted to count to 20. Then she wanted to go outside to show H and didn't want to take it off. Kids are weird.

There was a big local festival today. I usually go with my mom and aunt but just couldn't bring myself to go. They had a record turn out (Think 10s of thousands). My mom sent me a few photos. Scant mask wearing. My mom was one of those with a mask, thankfully. Not sure about my aunt. She didn't say.

I need test people eyes. Is this an invalid test result or the weirdest positive ever? I have a sore throat and headache, so i used an at home rapid.

May I ask a WWYD? We got an email on Friday 9/24 around 5:00 that said a child in M’s class tested positive. They encouraged us to test our kids based on last exposure date and let us know the classroom would be closed for contact tracing. The child with the positive case was last at school on 9/20. But M’s last exposure was 9/17.
I called the pediatrician immediately on yesterday 9/25 and took him for testing at 11:00. While there, we got another email from school. The county health department investigated and determined the child wasn’t at school during their infectious period. I’ve spent all weekend since then trying to figure out how that’s the case between in school on Monday and reporting the positive on Friday?
Anyway, due to the health department’s decision, school will be open tomorrow as usual. M is asymptomatic and had a negative rapid, still waiting on PCR results. What do I do? Send him to school? To OT before school? Keep him home? Idk.

We canceled all of our weekend plans because it was clearly the right thing to do. But when it comes to school being open, I’m confused as hell

notblanche they likely were not a contact. If the kid was last in on 9/20 and the school was notified on 9/24, they would have had to test positive/started symptoms by 9/22. Most likely, the individual tested 9/23 via pcr or 9/24 via rapid. The fact that you got a follow up email makes sense because they were likely notified by the parent or staff (they can’t really say here what it is) on 9/24 and proceed before the health department did their tracing and contacting. That said, I would not be allowed to send my kids in this case 🤷🏼♀️

notblanche At this point I’d keep him home while you wait for the PCR results, and if that is negative then send him back to school, assuming he has no symptoms.
