I agree with everyone that the testing situation needs to get figured out, this is insanity. I've been having intestinal distress for a few days and yesterday started to feel the beginnings of a headache and sore throat tickle. I assumed it was due to the storm front moving in because my body always reacts to that but I wanted to be safe. I searched all Walgreens and CVS in the metro area for an appt for yesterday evening after work and couldn't find anything for a rapid OR a PCR. All OTC tests sold out everywhere. I got lucky by searching the vaccine hunter FB group I'm still part of and there was a lab not too far from my house that is in a strip mall and just does parking lot testing while you're in your car. I was able to get an appt within the hour. Results back in 20 min, negative. PCR results will come today or tomorrow but I'm feeling much more confident since today my sore throat is gone and my headache feels like a normal pressure headache. But seriously, that was a stressful time finding an appt and this is going to be a real long fall/winter virus season if it doesn't improve. If you wouldn't mind PMing me this, I'd like to have it in my back pocket. We've been ordering the at-home PCR tests for DH to test weekly and now I'm going to start having the kids do it regularly. They do DoorDasht them to our house but you have to UPS them back. I want to have some quicker options if they get sick. Me too willow . Is it the strip mall I'm thinking of near the state fair grounds?

Help with kids KN95. As the school still won't issue a mask mandate. With the vaccine closing in I keep telling myself I'll only have to do this for a couple more months. Affordable KN95 for kids link? Size recommendations? She usually wears and likes old navy kid masks for size reference. I can measure if there are guidelines for it. I know I'm late to this and missed the earlier links. I appreciate the help. We bought these ones. They're KF94s. behealthyusa.net/products/botn-kf94-small-white?variant=37527603347620So far, I've only made the kids wear them to the doctor's office. But if the Happy Masks we use daily get lost or become not useable, we'll try these for school.

Nota🎃, we use kids' KF94s. I like the Good Manners brand that is sold on Amazon. They fit both my 6 and my (petite) 13 yo.

Just saw a breaking news bulletin that all NY daycares are now required to require masks. I’m sure DS2 will love that (he’s the only one over 2 at daycare). I just saw. Thank fucking god. We wouldn’t be battle the HFM outbreak from god damn hell if they required kids to be masked. I shit you not. Every child in the center has contracted it. What the ever loving fuck

But if he was in a center he would have been wearing one the whole time. I’m okay with him needing to wear it he’s just going to look at me like why the hell am I the only one wearing it. He’s going to try to make the other kids wear one too.

I’m hoping for some advice, wwyd?
I have tickets for a meet and greet and to see Stacey Abrams speak next week. It will be in an auditorium, no social distancing. Our positivity rate is currently at 7%. I can’t determine if masks are required, although I’m assuming with a Stacey Abrams group it will be close to 100% compliance. I have two children at home, not eligible for vaccine yet.
Would you still go? Or should I give tickets away?
My husband, who is very cautious, thinks I should go and double mask because it’s a once in a lifetime experience and he knows how big a fan I am. But I don’t know.

Dr. Cox, I would go in a KN95. Skip food, wash your hands well when you get home. My older two are also in TX public school so I assume worse is coming home daily.

Dr. Cox if you think most attendees would be masked, plus I would guess that crowd would be mostly vaxxed, I’d go.

Our Enro masks finally arrived today. My oldest loves them so I plan to order more if I ever get through the waitlist again. Now I wish I would have ordered more to begin with. She also just got her glasses today and they seem to fog less with the enro vs the happy masks.

My 3 year old goes to a sitter. A SAHM with 3 little boys, the oldest, she homeschools. She had her 3rd baby in April. Thus, they've always been super cautious, so we've felt very comfortable with him there.
She decided this year she wanted them in a co-op group for some socialization, which I totally get. But of course, it makes me very nervous as she admitted before it even started that a lot of them probably don't mask. I'm assuming the older two boys, 6 and 4 wear masks, but I know because they don't really go places that they aren't used to wearing them, especially for several hours.
She just texted me that the 4 year old was complaining that his back was hurting pretty badly and had a 102 fever. So now I'm an anxious mess. I mean back ache doesn't scream COVID to me, but I'm the kind to assume that any kind of not feeling well is COVID. I'm hoping she'll go and get him tested tomorrow. We're keeping DS home, and I guess I will have him tested just to play it safe in a few days.

He used to wear kids athleta/old navy. They are like $2 each and we rotate and wear a few days before tossing.

I liked this article about how/why the FDA and the NIH are differing a bit about booster shots. I think Fauci is right that there is more apparent disagreement in the twitterverse than in real life. I do think people are going to get confused and that may not be helpful as we move forward to figuring out dosing schedules, etc. My nickel bet at the moment is that they'll have the original Tier 2 (seniors, those with certain chronic conditions) get boosters, even if they decide healthy 40 year olds, let's say, can delay. khn.org/news/article/how-fauci-and-the-nih-got-ahead-of-the-fda-and-cdc-in-backing-boosters/

One of my best friends is an OBGYN and when the 5-11s are approved here, they're going to order as much Pfizer as they can, close their practice for a day and have a Children's Vaccine Day to vaccinate all their own kids, all their kids' friends, anyone who hears about it and comes in, any families walking by on the street, etc. I'm pumped because I'm sure we'll get in with her if there is a wait at our pedi's office. I don't think it will be too hard to get a vaccination once they're approved for the 5-11 here. I don't know how it is in your area but in mine definitely a lot won't be getting it right away for their kids in 5-8 range. My pediatrician even said that we'll have to think about if our youngest (5) really needs it... (We'll get it basically the second it's allowed LOL) Definitely not the same mindset as in the U.S. in my neck of the woods.

I expect boosters for all eventually, but the benefit seems marginal right now for people under 65 without other chronic conditions, even with Delta. Twitter is such a weird place.

My entire state is now in 'crisis standard of care'. I can't even begin to express how I feel for the doctors/nurses who have to make a call on whether someone will live or die.

The trauma and PTSD our HCWs will suffer from this pandemic is unimaginable. My heart goes out to them all, it's really unfair and so horrific.

Okay like-minded people, WWYD...
Sitter's kid had a 102 fever last night around 8 pm and was complaining of back pain. I think she gave him Tylenol. At 11pm last night, she checked on him and his temp was 98.6. About 8:45 this morning, he had a slight temp...99/100 and was saying his leg and arm pit hurt. She didn't give him meds this morning because she didn't want to mask any symptoms. She said she made him chill on the couch and about 20 minutes later he was fine and that he's been 100% normal since then.
I can take a day, don't have to have a sub, etc. There will be some people who have to cover my lunch duties, carpool duty, and diabetic care. We also normally see my grandparents on the weekends. Would you send him or keep him home?

You would think 20 months into things parents wouldn’t send their kids who are visibly sick to school. Kid who sits in front of DS1 was hacking up a lung and had a fever. His teachers did the right thing when they realized his coughing wasn’t something like a tickle in his throat that they made him go to the nurse. But still they put their kid on the bus sick.
