After 4 days of school (WFMW) my daughter was up all night with a sore throat and congestion. Home from school today and a Covid test scheduled for tomorrow. Getting a rapid at the lab willow used (but at location closer to home). Originally scheduled a test at Walgreens, the soonest they had was Sunday with PCR. Not sure if I should cancel the Walgreens appt or not.

In a shocking display of forethought, our school district is planning ahead for vaccinations in schools of the under 12 set. Good news!
Though I feel like that might be tough in execution for the younger ES crowd. My girls are good with a hand squeeze, but I think that may be rather the exception at age 5. Am I overthinking this?

These kids will probably be so excited to get their vaccines that they'll be very brave! I guess even if the schools can get most of the 7 years+ crowd that frees up pediatrician offices and retail pharmacies to administer to younger kids en masse

I do feel like the WH got out ahead with the booster talk and it's kind of messy now.

I do feel like the WH got out ahead with the booster talk and it's kind of messy now. Really messy. I find it interesting they are having so many international speakers. Which makes sense given the studies out of the UK and Israel, but I did not expect them to go the source like that.

My MIL was a retired public health nurse in VA. A few years ago when she was still working, they did flu shot clinics at elementary schools. She said those days were always so hard because there were lots of tears. And the kids were the same age as some of her grandkids. I would not want to be a teacher of the littlest kids though. So many tears for those whose parents opted them in. I also remember getting my Hep B shots in 6th grade at school.

Okay like-minded people, WWYD... Sitter's kid had a 102 fever last night around 8 pm and was complaining of back pain. I think she gave him Tylenol. At 11pm last night, she checked on him and his temp was 98.6. About 8:45 this morning, he had a slight temp...99/100 and was saying his leg and arm pit hurt. She didn't give him meds this morning because she didn't want to mask any symptoms. She said she made him chill on the couch and about 20 minutes later he was fine and that he's been 100% normal since then. I can take a day, don't have to have a sub, etc. There will be some people who have to cover my lunch duties, carpool duty, and diabetic care. We also normally see my grandparents on the weekends. Would you send him or keep him home? Keep him home and have the sitter rule out HFM in addition to covid. My kids’ fever with HFM was similar and it is RAMPANT here I'm don't think she's going to have him tested 🙁 unless he starts feeling bad again. I wasn't sure how to approach it Wednesday night, so I told her where a quick testing site was if she wanted to rule out COVID. She asked me what the hours were, so I was thinking she was going to take him to get tested and/or to the doctor. But I don't think either happened since he started feeling better early-ish yesterday. Her boys go to the homeschool co-op on Monday morning, so it tracks that by Wednesday evening he was feeling bad from something he picked up there...Hopefully not COVID. Her oldest is doing soccer but otherwise they don't go other places or socialize with other people. I feel like that's a very rare thing here so I don't want to jeopardize the relationship since we have no backup. We kept him home yesterday and today, and he naps in the afternoon and we picked him up right afterwards, so I'm hoping all of that helps him from catching whatever it is. I appreciate the input summerbabe, addymac, easier, and cmb.

cmb any idea when the school dashboard will be back up? I have no idea. Reporting started Monday, and we’re telling people a “few” days after. The layers of bureaucracy are very thick

Just goes to show that “Do you need to poop?” really is the #1 question when a kid is feeling unwell. Followed by “Have you been drinking water?”

FDA doing second vote on boosters for seniors and with serious chronic conditions
FDA vaccine advisers get a new question to consider about boosters From CNN's Maggie Fox
Vaccine advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration have received a new question to consider about boosters.
The FDA has rewritten the question it is asking its advisers. Although the Pfizer vaccine has full approval, the committee will be asked to vote on an emergency use authorization or EUA for a booster.
They are being asked to vote on whether boosters should get emergency use authorization for a booster dose six months after full vaccination in people 65 and older and those at high risk of severe Covid-19.
ETA - and approved unanimously. I'm going to assume that the affected group who received Moderna will get the third Moderna dose, but will have to ask my internist. I believe due to risk factors I'll be in this tier.
Vaccine advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration voted unanimously Friday to recommend emergency use authorization of a booster dose of Pfizer’s vaccine six months after full vaccination in people 65 and older and those at high risk of severe Covid-19.
Members of the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee had rejected a broader application – to approve the use of booster doses of Pfizer’s vaccines in everyone 16 and older six months after they are fully vaccinated.

Like I said, messy.
I'm glad the most impacted people can get them.
ETA: I'm assuming HCW are "at high risk."
