Did someone say Tamora Pierce? I love her. The Lioness Quartet had such an impact on me as a young teen that I brought them to college with me. Hello, are you me?

This thread (and board) makes me so happy. I have...a lot of things.
TV Shows: Doctor Who (our dog's name is Tennant, I'm kind of obsessed), Sherlock (BBC), Supernatural, Supergirl, Bob's Burgers, Firefly Games: Mass Effect (2 is my favorite, I'm warming up to Andromeda), Kingdom Hearts Books: Harry Potter (Ravenclaw allll day), Tamora Pierce (SO happy to see the love for her here!! It's hard to pick a favorite, but it's probably the Circle of Magic quartet), Tolkien, Asimov, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Stephen R Lawhead, and so many, many more mostly fantasy authors Anime: Fruits Basket, RWBY, Blood+ Movies: Marvel, the Chris Nolan Batman movies (mostly for my husband's sake), anything Whedon, Star Wars Misc: Disney (DS and I spend many mornings at DL), I went through a very long Neopets phase and a short Flight Rising phase
I don't know how I'm going to decide which panels to go to at Comic-Con this year. We're debating trying for Hall H for the Marvel panel, just because we're going without our kiddo and we can.

Some of my things, but I really love all things nerdy: Harry Potter- have a couple HP tattoos, HP wedding, honeymooned at WWHP, twins have a HP nursery, and we collect the wands. Ravenclaw here! Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Firefly, Disney, Superheroes (preference to Marvel but we watch a lot of Batman and Justice league, even went and saw a special screening of the Killing Joke with Mark Hamill), LOTR, Narnia, love to read when I have the time. I used to play WoW but haven't had the time in years, but my husband and I will co-op games (I liked Borderlands and Diablo) and I am usually our sniper. I really like playing board games even though my husband thinks I cheat because I always win. I'm so jealous! DH and I saw the world premiere at Comic-Con last year - Kevin Conroy was a surprise guest and was amazing, and Tara Strong, Bruce Timm, and Brian Azzarello were there, but no Mark Hamill. He did call in and do a bit on the phone with the crowd, but it would have been the icing on the cake to have him there in person.

otters The Silmarillion took me forever to read but it had so much good information on the origins for stuff in LOTR. I've heard it can be a beast to get through! It was the story of the sun and moon that convinced me to finally order it. And fanfics.

It has been approx 12 years since I read it so I don't remember too many details but a few things stood out. I won't spoil it for you. It explains all the things about middle earth and such.

pianolove Oh my gosh yes! I played them with my sister. She played while I used the cluebook . Now I'm playing with my husband and sometimes the two year old "helps". He actually really does like it though because he knows so many of the characters.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but here are a few of my favorite things. 1. Harry Potter (Gryffindor) seriously HP tops any list. 2. Anime/manga (Cowboy Bebop, Chobits, Love Hina, Inuyasha, Trigun, Samurai X, Ghost in the Shell, Hellsing, Dragon Ball Z, Samurai Champloo, and many many more) 3. Tamora Pierce. I started with her Immortals series, but have read them all. 4. Game of Thrones, but I'm not sure if that can be considered nerdy anymore. I read the books before the show became popular 5. Magic. I haven't played it in years, but that's because I haven't had anybody to play with. 6. Video games! I love WOW, Guild Wars 2, everything Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, The Elder Scrolls, and Aion. Basically anything that is an RPG or MMO. 7. I am a huge book nerd. I read literally everything I can get my hands on. Historical fiction, Sci fi, mystery, and fantasy are my favorite genres.

I like Harry Potter, LotR movies, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Buffy, Marvel, DC. I met my husband while playing WoW. I didn't meet my SO while playing WOW, but I started becoming interested in him because of WOW and the contents in his bookshelf.

I'm into fantasy literature (not so much sci-fi), including the staples mentioned here (LOTR and HP), Rocky Horror, cosplay (not frequent but when I do I go for it), and I've been into anime, but I haven't had time in awhile. I've also played video games in the past, but having three young kids really sucks up the time.
Happy to see my fellow geek girls!

The books still hold up well for an adult reader, in my opinion. But as a girl it was really one of the first times I got to see a female lead who kicked ass. Now young adults have Katniss and whatever her name is from the Divergent series and so many others, but when we were kids having a female fantasy lead holding her own amongst the men of her world was not common so it was a really special set of books partially because of that.

Tamora Pierce's books are SO much better than Katniss and the Divergent series though. It's a shame they aren't more popular. I was going through a particularly rough time in my childhood when I found her books. Tamora Pierce and J. K. Rowling helped me gain the courage to keep going and not succumb to the depression I was fighting.

ironcorgi Oh I completely agree, I was just saying that when they came out they were also special because they filled a young adult void (and also just fantasy/sci fi in general void) that now many, many other young adult authors fill, by having a female lead. But yea, quality wise they definitely top those other books.

I feel like the only books that are popular are the ones that are made into a movie/show. More people watch the movie first and then read the book. If the Tamora Pierce books became a T.V. series, they would be just as popular as Hunger Games and Divergent.

Now that I think about it, a Tamora Pierce HBO series would be fantastic.

I read Song of the Lioness in the fourth grade. I read the series over again once a year or so, and when I went to college actually bought a new set to bring with me because the original set was falling apart. Now it's my go-to gift for tweens in my family (boys and girls).

I even modded my Sims game so I could get purple eyes. I am a little embarrased to say I haven't finished the Beka Cooper series. The last two books came out when I was in college and I was reading a lot less. Lately I've been catching up on some of the new releases of my younger years favorite series so those are definitely on the list. Next though I'm going to read the new Garth Nix books in his Old Kingdom (?) series. Sabriel was another favorite of mine.

Harry Potter (I always get sorted into Gryffindor), Star Wars, LOTR (though I've only read the Hobbit and the trilogy and not the other books he wrote), and Star Trek (but I've only seen the original and Next Generation, plus several of the movies; working on the rest).
