Kindergarten has little miss TIRED OUT she slept 12.5 hours and I had to wake her up to get ready for school 🤣 I wish I could show you all the video of her walking out at the end of the day. Poor girl looked like she walked through a drive thru car wash. This gives me hope for my kindergartener. He doesnt start for a couple weeks but I'm hoping it will tire out some of his crazy energy. Did your DD go to preschool/pre-k? I'm not sure if being in full time school will change him or not since he's been in full time daycare/preschool since infancy so he's used to being elsewhere for over 8 hours a day. At least for my older DD, when she started K after being in full time care/preschool, she was definitely a new tired. I think all of the structure and amount of time they are expected to focus is intense for their brains.

I did a bunch of plan sketching on trace paper yesterday, then took my favorites and drafted them on the computer. I asked my 8 year old to recycle all the trace. He looked at me and said "A lot of failed attempts, huh?" I can't stop laughing about it.

dc2london my kindergartner was rough to wake up this morning too. He struggled to get out of the van - he forgot to unbuckle, his mask, backpack and then to actually step out of the van. D1 had to double back to help him, because we were holding up the line.

Hugs starbuck. I am right there with you. Just want to sit and mindlessly watch the Portuguese version of the price is right with ice cream and baby cuddles.

It didn't work out with her brothers' school schedules when she was 3 and when she turned 4 we were mid pandemic.

I am in a big time struggle to focus on work right now. It has blown up in August in an unforeseen way (nothing bad just way more work than I was expecting since it's typically a "quiet" month here). I'm regretting not taking time off. DH had to start back in person so I thought "we can't go anywhere if I do take time off and it'll be quiet anyway so I'll just save my PTO." Boy was that dumb. Too late now!

DD2 had a food challenge for eggs this morning and failed. She's fine now, but disappointed. Looks like we'll be avoiding eggs for at least one more year.

Congrats overboard! Hugs starbuck. I hate that feeling. I hope you get some time for a mental break.

It's frustrating for school because they can't guarantee no cross contamination in the kitchen, so she has to bring her lunch everyday. So I'm trying to figure out a good variety of things to make for her. She's been allergic since she was a baby, so she's used to not having them.

I was an egg AND peanut allergy kid so I always had packed lunches too. It does help to have the allergy since a baby because as a kid you just get used to asking people whether x or y is in the food. Somehow I managed to survive with nary a school incident and that was the 90s, so your DD will be ok!

Sounds like the first day went as well as you could hope! Lunch was good. Teachers were nice. There was a fire drill. That's about all I've got out of them. Ha! All of the k kids came out in these ridiculously cute 1st day of kindergarten crowns.

My daughter tested into a hybrid pre-k/kinder program at her school and SHE HAS HOMEWORK.
I mean, it's some sight words plus they want us to keep a log of everything we read to her during the week so it's not like dioramas or anything especially taxing but...homework in pre-k.
Because I didn't have enough to do.
thanks Obama

My parents (ie daycare) have the GALL to take a vacation (I say this in jest with much love to them). Which means I'm taking vacation and am playing SAHM until Monday. I'm not cut out for it. I give mad props to stay at home parents. Potty training v. 2 commences on either Thursday after gymnastics or on Friday.

I'll admit I was pretty surprised, though I guess it makes sense that certain things may need in person help that would be impossible to do over zoom. Still. It's a lot.

In VA they have to have weekly fire drills during the first and last months of school. A lot of admins warn teachers they'll do one the first day bc there's not a ton of instruction to disrupt and, well, you kinda have to do them when the weather is decent bc August in NoVA can mean thunderstorms every afternoon
