Do you mean like a meal box service like hello fresh, etc? I have looked at a variety of them over the years and have never pulled the trigger because I don’t see how it is cheaper than grocery shopping for a family? Is it really cheaper in the end? . I also found these services in the us useful to shake up menu planning for a bit. I still have a handful of recipes from doing meal boxes in the US that i make regularly for dinner now. They just got added to the rotation and so it's helped improvey cooking. (and I'm a decent cook to begin with). Same here. We did them for a long time when we were burnt out on meal planning. It added some new tricks to my cooking skills. Sometimes we would do them as a stay at home date night. Make something easy for DS and then after he went to bed cook together and eat a steak. I hated the waste and eventually we got bored of them but it got us out of a rut. For me, I’m very good at meal planning and keeping costs low for food so it was a bit more spendy, but we weren’t going out to eat much during that time so I felt it was ok. The only thing that is kind of a bummer is that you don’t get as much leftovers out of those meal kits.

In the before times, I would menu plan a month at a time. When my H would be on a trip I would prep most of the food while he was home and then just finish up stuff for dinner. Over covid, all of this went by the wayside. It became too much to menu plan, shop, cook, fight the children over what I'd cooked. So, I started getting those boxes. It's really helped and it's saved us money, and we have less trash too! Yes, I CAN do all those things, but I wasn't. Be kind to yourself. Do you mean like a meal box service like hello fresh, etc? I have looked at a variety of them over the years and have never pulled the trigger because I don’t see how it is cheaper than grocery shopping for a family? Is it really cheaper in the end? Yes, we have hello fresh. It's saved us about $300/mo in food bills; the grocery budget is about the same, but we eat out a LOT less. Everyone was just too fried to make menu planning work. In other news, we would now like to eat our way across northern Africa; everything has been SO good.

Thanks for the input re: the meal kits. I would be interested to try some, though I have heard mixed reviews about various brands. I'd be interested in ones that have no chopping prep required and relatively generous portions....

Girl, you are not adulting poorly. My meal prepping is an attempt to use my tendency to hyperfocus so I can adult REALLY HARD on Sundays and then not adult the rest of the week. And I definitely wasn't weekly prepping when my oldest was 4 and my spouse worked crazy hours. I'm happy to talk meal planning and prepping bc I've spent 10 years honing my procedures and routines but like......you keep babies alive all day and I made lasagna Doing extra adulting when you have the energy is so key. I leveled up when I learned this. What is this energy you speak of and how do I get some?

It me. Lol. I'm basically desperate for anything I can have control over. Oh, is this why I have that urge? lol, I have a list a mile long. the house isn't actually clean yet, in fact it's quite cluttered, but I'm convinced it'll feel better when it is. I deep cleaned my main level yesterday and it really did make me feel better.

Could you start a meal prepping thread? I’m terrible at thinking beyond today which usually results in a grocery store trip every day. But with me working exhausting hours and DH not functioning at the top of his game d/t mental health, we could really use some meal prepping guidance. We’re doing Blue Apron this month for exactly that reason. I get the 4 serving meals and each is enough for two nights (the kids are picky eaters, so they often don’t partake). It’s working well for now and it makes the rest of grocery shopping so easy.

The week I was home with the toddler I: Cleaned out and organized the junk drawer Cleaned out and organized the utensil drawer and countertop utensil holder Cleaned out and organized the food cupboard Moved all the toys to the playroom and went through and organized, sorted and sold/donated a bunch Cleaned out the garage and threw away 3 huge garbage bags and have a huge pile for donations All of that was easier than attempting to potty train.

I’ve already done so much purging and organizing over the last 18 months, I’m not sure there’s anything left. 😩 I have no more clothes to send to ThredUP. DS’s clothes are all current. Kitchen is the least cluttered it’s ever been. Garage is so organized. I even set up our apocalypse supply stash last year (I.e., emergency preparedness supplies). Ooh I have mostly left H’s stuff alone though… 😈

Speaking of purging, I just realized I forgot to register for the upcoming consignment sale where I typically purge the kids stuff. So now I'll have to hold onto it for a year. Oh well. Better to not deal with it in the midst of delta anyways.

I’m counting down the minutes for my 3yo to start preschool so I can really purge toys. Today he played with every single thing and I had to re-find all the pieces to sets.
He’s the baby of the family and it feels great to know I can finally get rid of things I saved “just in case.”

Oh hi, we just got back from urgent care. Ds closed his pinky finger in our bedroom door and it looked awful. Thankfully not broken!! And we slipped into the building right before they closed so no other patients were there (I felt bad but I had no idea and thanked everyone profusely for staying late). So at least our exposure wasn’t too bad. Sheesh.

Speaking of purging - does anyone need a giant bin of legos? BecauE my kid dumped in on the floor today during a tantrum and I ended up cleaning it all up after sending him to bed because otherwise I would have had an anxiety attack. It’s now off limits for the foreseeable future and I’m thinking of disappearing it for a long time.

Yeah it looked so bad 😬 He’s a pretty careful kid so we haven’t dealt with very many injuries, this was quite an adventure. But he’s fine. In fact after we got home and had dinner, I think all the extra adrenaline kicked in and he was bouncing off the walls. Like literally running laps in the living room. 😂

And also, it’s only been 6 weeks. 🙄

If you seriously decide the LEGO’s are gone, donate them to a elementary or middle school that has Lego league, they are always looking for extra parts.
