Hi all!
Just got caught up. I ended up taking Thurs-Sat off as rest days. The heat + period blahs.
I got back at it this morning and finished out Week 7 of You Can Run (1 week to go!) The temps were decent so I ran outside (30 minutes with Adrian). I did a 10-min post-run stretch with Jess S.
Headed to Lake Michigan in a bit.

Did my first ever outdoor 8-mile run yesterday. OMG. It was pretty tough. The longest distance I've previously run outdoors is 4 miles and very early before it got sunny and hot. It took me 1 hour 33 minutes with a few walk breaks. My cousin, who's part of our relay team at the end of this month, ran a 15k and then went off to a day of family activities like it was nothing. BITCH. It took me probably 4 hours to feel decent afterwards. I did a cool soak and drank a lot of protein and Gatorade afterwards. I also probably should have hydrated better before this race. For more long-distance runners - what do you eat before a run of this distance? I had a piece of peanut butter toast, which probably wasn't enough. Going to walk a couple of miles on the treadmill today. My legs actually don't feel that bad today, but I did a ton of stretching and used our massage gun on them, so that helped for sure. Congrats on the new distance accomplishment! Before a long run, I like to have water, coffee, and toast with PB or AB, sliced banana (about 1/2 a banana) and honey. Awesome job, beatch! I eat almost exactly the same thing as coconutbacon before running, regardless of distance. Plain PB toast works okay for me, but I prefer adding honey and/or banana for some more carbs. Did you take in any fuel or electrolytes while running? That plays a huge part as well, especially with the heat.

Biked 8 miles, it was a bit of a challenge trying to find a route that wasn’t closed due to summer construction/maintenance.
Planning on trying a new trail this week, change of scenery really ups the enjoyment factor.

Hi all, I’ve been on vacation since July 35 and did absolutely no working out (apart from some walking and ocean swimming… well mostly floating lol). It was a wonderful break from real life and responsibilities but I’m pretty sure I gained weight. I haven’t stepped on the scale though.
Yesterday got back on the peloton and did an easy 20 min 80s ride with Robin. It was a great way to dip my toes back in and made me look forward to my workout today. I’ve missed the endorphins, I’d almost forgotten how much I love it. Today I plan to do a 30 min ride, not sure which one yet. Just trying to take it easy and ease my way back into a routine.

Friday I was up half the night with DD, so I took yesterday as a rest day. Last night was another rough night, not even because of DD, I just couldn’t sleep. I’m so tired today.
30 min Pop ride w/Tunde.

Yesterday I was wiped after spending a couple of hours moving stuff around in the garage. I ordered matching clear bins for the new storage wall so I had to pull down all of the mismatched bins one by one and transfer the contents to new bins, try to organize them more logically, and toss stuff as needed. I was drenched in sweat by the end of it but am so satisfied now that it’s organized.
Today I timed my 100th strength class to be a live one with Matty and I got my first shoutout! 🎉 It was the 20 min chest and back one. I also logged 4 miles of hilly walking with the stroller.

I should probably stop following Ally too. Today her caption was something like "Day 5 of the wedding..." and I was like girl, stop. There is another one from an hour ago. You would think she just now got married! Omg. When she said a couple days ago “we will be telling stories from this week…forever” it was apparently not hyperbole.

Honestly, unless I'm hitting double digits, I often times run on an empty stomach. Otherwise I usually have a piece high grain bread with peanut butter. I second fuel on the run.if I do more than an hour I bring water.if 8 know I'm into double digits I bring water and electrolytes, and usually shot blocks too.

Hi, I haven't checked in all weekend. I've been mostly unplugged.
Yesterday I did no formal working out, but did an hour of difficult canoeing at my summer camp. I subsided almost entirely off pastries the entire day.
Today I did a 20 HIIT run with Jess King. DD2 insisted she got to pick mm run and that was her choice. I didn't have much time for anything else. The kids and I did 5 hours round trip to do an outdoor lunch with my grandmother who we haven't seen in like a year and half now. I subsided almost entirely off of fried foods today.
Needless to say, I feel like shit and cannot wait to workout for real tomorrow, and subside off of protein shakes and fruits. My gosh.

7 mile ride yesterday 10 mile ride this morning My clothes are fitting a little snug so decided I needed to weigh to confirm my suspicions, and yep, I’ve up a few pounds. Typically I lose a little in the summer due to all the activity but I guess I’ve been a little more indulgent than I should. Chips & chocolate are my weakness. I’m not cutting out, just cutting back. I’m here too. I haven’t been as discerning with my food this summer and I’m up prob 7 lbs since mid June. I’m keeping an eye on it but figure it will rectify itself once school starts again and I’m in a steady routine.

Awesome job! My pre-long run food is a banana and serving of almond butter at least an hour before, ideally 2 hrs. I also took fuel on the run. I can’t really run on a full stomach but definitely needed breakfast and gels to get through more than 5-6 miles. It’s definitely trial and error to figure out what works for you. I also learned from others here that what I ate the day before mattered a lot once I got to 9-10 miles, so something to think about also!

Long time no check in. My schedule was so hectic this past week and we had actual hot summer temps so I wasn’t able to get out to run. Reading about you all talking about your long runs makes me wish I was training! I’ll have to see how I do over the next few weeks now that summer school is over and I might be able to still pull off the half.
I did 25 min on the bike this morning and a 10 min full body strength. I already have a stack of Peloton running classes for tomorrow morning. My goal for the week is to try to run at least 4 days since I’ll have the time and I can go in the morning!

I got in a 3.5 mile run today and followed it up with a lower body workout. I beat my usual 5k time by two minutes. I’m still slow AF but I’m always happy to see progress!
I made some tasty balsamic chicken for dinner and will be having a giant piece of cake later. Looking forward to my rest day tomorrow.

I ended up skipping church this morning along with my bike workout. Had to take FIL for his pre surgery Covid test. H and I both had a terrible night’s sleep then the smoke detector in our room started chirping g at 5:00. I didn’t have any appropriate batteries on hand so we went and slept on the basement couch. I went for a nice 50 minute walk with my oldest daughter and called it good enough.

I bought a running belt with a water bottle but it seems like it will be awkward to run with, and probably annoying sloshing around after I drink some of it! I have another long run planned on Friday, though, so I will try it then.

Hello everybody!
Yesterday, I walked outside in the rolling hills with the dog and swam a bit later.
I am currently up at an ungodly hour with my hip acting up again. I notice that it gets better when I curb my snacking and worse when I eat a bunch of processed shit. I don't know if there is an actual correlation or if that is all in my head, but I figure why not go with it and see if stopping the sweets helps?

I have another long run planned on Friday, though, so I will try it then. Getting it to fit right helps with the sloshing. I find my handheld sloshing more annoying but I still prefer it to my belt. If I'm doing a seriously long run though I will bring both. I drink my handheld first then ditch it along the road and go back for it later with my car, lol. I also had a diner on my long run route that I would stop in to refill my water if need be. Or sometimes when I do not want to carry something I'll do a 2 mile loop and set up my own aid station at the bottom of my driveway. Stop for a chew and sip of water or electrolytes every second mile then run it again. Whatever works.

Normal weekend stuff - family run Saturday morning, swimming, hike, and a Flash 15 that made my butt so incredibly sore!
Planning on a few miles of a run once the sun comes up - need to be here when the kids wake up since DS slept in a toddler bed (crib without one side) for the first time last night! Is it weird that I already miss the crazy long, light before 5 am, days?

I run in my neighborhood so I think I might do this next time! On my last run I was very VERY tempted to call my husband to bring me water (he has a live Google map link when I run so he knows where I am).

This weekend I got in a 30 minute 90s run outside with Rebecca. I took the kids to the park, let them run around on the playground equipment and ran laps for it. The kids cooperated this time and I enjoyed getting to be outside. I had tucked my phone into the waist of my shorts while I was going around and through some combination of it jostling around accidentally started to call all of DH's family. Thankfully, I managed to hang up before anyone answered.
This morning was an old 20 minutes 90s run with Matty and a 5 minute core with Selena. I got part of my PT done and will finish that up tonight.

My parents are local and my mom was very into running so she meets me at spots on my super long runs with water. I’m good until about 12 without it. Longer than that, we pick meeting spots. I lovingly call her my support staff.

Back it today, yes.
45 minute classical run with Becs 10 minute G&L with Olivia 5 minute core with Callie 10 minute strength for runners with Wilpers
I had to make a potty break during the run and my basement tv has been glitchy lately. It booted me out of my run when I tried to unpause it and I couldn't get peloton to reopen so I finished it on my phone. I reset the fire stick and it seems much better now. Gah. Got in 5 miles, so all good. That glutes class was perfect, that core class was death, and the runners strength was incredible. It's from 8/28/19 and it's all hip mobility work. It's so hard but it was amazing and I need to incorporate it regularly.
I have enough healthy food to survive the day. I need to meal plan and the kids and I will hit up Wegmans this afternoon. But first, a playground!

SUPER sore from my 8 mile walk Saturday. Shins are aching.
AM workout done. 7 min on stair stepper + hour body pump 30 min Matt advanced beginner ride. I was hoping for some instruction on technique. I have no idea if my "form" is correct so if anyone knows some good rides for that, I'd love some direction. Feel free to DM me if you don't want to clog this thread.
B- egg on sprouted toast with avocado, tomatoes and spinach L- Gazpacho D- skinnytaste picadillo. S: rice cakes w hummus and cucumbers. Saw it posted somewhere and it was delicious.

9 1/2 mile run barefoot on the beach at sunrise and then a little extra with sneakers on the road. I soaked in a hot tub afterward and it felt so good.

I have been struggling. Workouts haven't happened.
Today is the day i change. I am tracking food and prepped for the week. Kids will bike ride with me while I run today with the run club. No excuses. Even if the run turns into a walk, it's better than nothing.
Food: B: chocolate strawberry protein shake S: yogurt / granola L: grilled pork chop, green beans, plum S: bean/pumpkin burrito (it's really not that big) D: chili cheese dogs, peaches and strawberries.

30 minute Elvis ride with Emma. I loved her pants and shoes that she wore.
B: apple, peanut butter and cold cuts L: shredded chicken with black beans D: TBD S: asparagus and brussel sprouts.
I have a 2 mi race Thursday night and I'm thinking of using one of those 30 minute walk run outdoor workouts for it. I'm not speedy and it's hot as hell here right now so I'm thinking I could get it to the point of the warm up closet and then start it again when we start the race. I just have to find one with music that I like.

Swam with girls this AM.
I finally jumped on a scale after three weeks of being on vacay and no chips and dip. Verdict is that I am probably about exactly the same as when I left--and I thought my clothes were fitting better! Oh well. It's been sustainable and I feel good when I eat like this, so that's a victory, I suppose.
