Treadmill running is SO HARD. I think my max is 6 miles and it feels twice as long! There's a meme out there that says:
I don't know what's longer, a microwave minute or a treadmill minute.
lol

What!? Who says that? Did you ask whatever Dickbag says you're not a real runner because you stick to the treadmill how many miles they've run on a treadmill over the YEARS of treadmill running they do? Right because they don't. Because they are assholes. Comes up many times in running groups. "It's not as hard, the treadmill does the work for you, on and on and on....". Good times. That is some shit. It most definitely does not do the work for you. In fact, I'd wager there are times I feel like the same speed on the treadmill vs outside is so much harder and I'm running faster than I would if I was outside. I'm sure that's psychological but it doesn't make it any less true. Also, it is fact that you work your quads more than your hamstrings on the tread vs outside. My hamstrings (and glutes) are stronger than my quads so that's another reason why it seems harder to me. There's a reason anything longer than 30 minutes on the tread and sometimes even less time means I have to put a towel on the console so I can't see the time slowly ticking by.

It’s really dependent on inclines and speed too. I mean, a hard tread workout with a series of steep inclines is going to be more difficult than an easy run on a flat outdoor track. Both are runs though. Also, for me, even if the terrain outdoors is difficult, mentally I find it easier running a long run outside than on the tread. No one should be dismissing one as easier than the other. There are hard aspects to both types of running. And the bottom line is, they are both running!

It feels weird to pick my own strength workouts again after 6 weeks of having it done for me, but anyway, I got it done:
- 20 minutes Upper Body with Callie - I haven't tried her out before. I like her. I didn't do even close to her recommended weights. I used my 5 lbs as I'm still getting back in the swing and could feel it halfway through the 2nd circuit and the EMOM. I'll probably give it another week or so and then up to 8lbs (at my max, I was up to 12 lbs for chest/back/biceps but still on 10s for everything else). - 5 min Core with Olivia (tough as always) - 5 min Upper Body Stretch with Ben

I struggled with calling myself “a runner” for a very long time. Someone would ask and I’d say something lame like “I don’t know if I’m *a runner,* but I like to run!” I don’t know what changed. Maybe just getting older and giving myself more credit.
I started the first week of my marathon training plan. Yesterday was 9 miles with 4 at tempo, today was 11 miles at 10-20% slower than my goal marathon pace. Tomorrow is a recovery run. I need to stretch!
I have a treadmill but I intensely dislike running on it. I am dreading when it gets too dark to feel safe doing 15 mile mid week runs outside and I’ll be forced to use it. I think it’s a combo of my particular tread and the fact that I feel like it messes with my form just enough to be annoying. But treadmill running is still running. There are certain workouts that are definitely not the same trying to replicate outside, and this year is going to be the first time I don’t have a “good” treadmill at the gym that I can use (canceled during covid and not planning on joining again).

coffee, can you start your long runs outside and when it gets dark move inside to a tread to finish? That way it won't be 15 boring freaking treadmill miles...lol I just asked in my running group if anyone knew of any public tracks to use. H is traveling again and i don't want to pay a babysitter every time i need a long run.

I was thinking of that, but the reverse (I run in the morning, so I could start on the tread and then move outside). It isn’t ideal for me, but obviously I’ll do what I need to!

5 easy miles and a PT session for me today. I am going to try to get in short arms and core sessions later too. Planning on cold peanut sesame soba noodles with grilled tofu for dinner tonight.

My current record on the tread is 18 miles. Part of my life vanished that day.

Really busy week with kids going back to school today. Missed Monday's workout.
Peloton was delivered Tuesday! I got one foot clipped in (and can't unclip lol) and cannot for the life of me get the other foot clipped in. So I rode with one foot in and one foot on. I did a 30 min ride with Jenn. It was good! Then this morning I did a 30 min ride with Hannah.
Both days I would not have gotten a workout in otherwise so I'm happy with the bike. But I'll go back to the gym tomorrow and Friday. Dh is oot (the bike is really for him) and I'm sure he'll figure out how to get my other shoe in.
Now I need to start paying closer attention to the Peloton classes y'all do. I still plan on doing body pump M,W,F and using the bike for cardio.

Personally I think treadmill running is much harder than outdoors. I push harder on a tread. More incline, more speed. You have to press a button to slow down so you have to mentally commit. Outside you just do what you want. At least I do, maybe I’m lazy.

Today will probably be take out for dinner because I have my infusion and can’t cook those day.
10 min Arms & Shoulders w/Ben 30 min HIIT & Hills w/Robin 5 min Cool down w/Robin
It’s been a while since I took a HIIT & hills from Robin and forgot how hard they are for me, however, it is such a good feeling to be done!

GhoatMonket Planks are my trainer's favorite core exercise and I whole heartedly agree that plank minutes are the longest. Speaking of, I did lots of planking and then back and biceps today with him. I'm ready for some cardio for the rest of the week.

I did a 20 min Chase legs/glutes and a 20min Jess Sims upper body. I haven’t had the chance to do much for strength the last couple weeks while we’ve been OOT then had guests, so it felt good. Then took the pup on a walk to our local fruit stand, about 5-6K return. A new dog in the neighborhood was off leash in their yard and came running out to the road and snarled at her and it rattled me. Yay rural living.

Loving some of the banter the past couple pages! 🤣🤣 CurlieWhirlie jrun2013 RunsforWineandCarbs you gals staying consistent with workouts on vacation are #goals RunsforWineandCarbs your DH has some major sucking up to do! (Picturing that scene from Pretty woman here) sunshinedaisies sorry you’re injured, it happens, and isn’t your fault. I hope you find an alternative to celebrate your DH’s 40th. soiree have you adjusted the bottom brackets of your clip in shoes? The might need aligning to clip in better. Honestly, clipping out sometimes is uncomfortable for me so I remove my feet from shoes and use my hands to remove them from pedals. 5.5 miles biked yesterday along with push mowing 12.5 miles biked today

I did my first 45 minute ride today. It had 4 minutes of arms included. Jenn S. 80s ride. She talked a little too much for me and her resistance/ cadence #s were completely out of my range but the playlist was great. B: peanut butter toast L: chicken burger and asparagus D: skinnytaste cheesy chicken enchilada skillet beerlover, congratulations on 500, that's amazing.

You make a great point about treadmill quality too. We have a pretty (once was) high end commercial grade treadmill and running on it is such a breeze compared to others I've used. Ask me to run more than 2 miles on my mom's cheapy treadmill and I will nope right out of a workout. Hers feels like I'm running through glue and it's so fucking hard. It takes me the same effort to a run 12 minute mile on her treadmill as it does a 9 minute mile on mine. And we maintain ours very well, just replaced the belt, whatever. I don't know, that can play a big role too though for sure. Anyways, if you run, you are a runner. Period.

So yesterday I did a Tabata ride with Christine and it… sucked. Like lower output than arms and intervals rides where I don’t pedal at times.
Today I got a new PR.
I love this damn bike.
