Owls Aren't Wise & Bats Aren't Blind: A Naturalist Debunks Our Favorite Fallacies About Wildlife by Warner Shedd was an entertaining read. My friends and family have been on the receiving end of many cool animal texts over the last few days. I can’t decide which animal was my favorite. My big complaint is how he approached the myth busting, it was just a matter of the wording in most cases. For example: possums don’t “play” because it’s an involuntary response. Okay, Mr. Fun Police. But I guess that’s marketing for you. The chapters that mentioned rabies were also a bit heavy handed but it was published in 2000 so that’s to be expected given the author’s northeast location.
The Life of Sharks was a nice addition to my family’s little collection of nature themed comic books.

It was a BOTM pick a few months ago, labeled as contemporary fiction. It has a little bit of everything in it. You will fall in love with the main character. He has a beautiful outlook on life, and he is really funny. His best friend is one of my favorite characters ever written. It’s a little suspenseful, uplifting, and funny. It’s one I will remember for a long time.

I did a big road trip last month so here’s my read books: It Happened One Summer ** (promising start, didn’t buy the sex/pillow talk) The Brittanys ** The Godmothers *** Blush *** A Special Place for Women ***
Really, nothing blew me away but that was due to having to pass snacks back every 30 seconds. I couldn’t focus much.

I just finished Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lao, (it’s my daughter’s summer reading, going into 7th grade) it’s written in verse so it was a quick read. I really enjoyed it.
Next I plan to start Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

I got my Reese’s Book Club box. I chose to be surprised with the august pick (We Were Never Here). I’m kinda glad I did because I probably wouldn’t have picked this book on my own. I love the towel and all the goodies that came with.

Just starting Good Neighbors. It doesn’t have amazing reviews but my friend really liked it, so I’m giving it a go!

i just finished someone we know and i liked it a lot more than other lapena books. i started listening to the break down by ba paris. i’ve only read behind closed doors by her and wasn’t a fan. so far i’m liking this better, but am finding the main character annoying. my hold for lie beside me by gytha lodge just came through. it’s the 3rd in a british procedural series and i might just take a break from golden girl to start it. im almost done with golden girl just excited for this.

I finished Bunny by Mona Awad and hoo boy, that was one of the weirdest freaking books I've ever read. I think I loved it??? But it's another one of those books that if someone said they hated it, I'd be like yes of course I totally understand. Now I'm reading Nightbitch which is going to be another suuuuper weird one. (It's about a mother who thinks she's turning into a dog, and I'm only 80 pages in but I've already felt like I'm going to cry a few times because the parts about motherhood are just so relatable.)

I finished Devil in the Dark Water and liked it. Some parts were a bit slow, but the last third I was having anxiety about what would happen and it was don't want to know/can't look away. There was a social experiment element in the end like 7.5 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Very different books though. A lot to unpack.

It’s been slow for me for obvious reasons! In July, I read the Rose Code, which was fantastic.
I just finished The Darkest Flower, which was a fun but frustrating read. I just absolutely despised the main character. You’re supposed to, but gosh.
I started The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter. Still just almost done with Malibu Rising on Audible, and only partially started on the Kiss Quotient. A lot of my reading has been done at night, so the many paperbacks I have from the library are getting ignored. 😬

I feel the same way about Evelyn Hardcastle as you do about Bunny, but in reverse. I hated it because I was so confused the entire time, and just for a million other reasons, yet I can understand why some people loved it. Now I’m intrigued by Bunny!

Bunny was a DNF for me. I’d heard it recommended several times and checked it out without reading a synopsis. It was too much for me!

I was kind of "huh" for the first 50-100 pages and then I couldn't put it down because it was just so. fucking. weird. and claustrophic feeling? But once I hit a certain point, I couldn't stop reading. I'm going to think about it a lot, like one of those movies you can't get out of your brain. I have her newest release from the library now!

I finished Malibu Rising. I liked it better than Daisy Jones but not as good as Evelyn Hugo.

I am working through Isn't it Bromantic. I like it but it isn't as fast as the rest, but that could be my lack of time to really devote to reading.

I finished Malibu Rising. I liked it better than Daisy Jones but not as good as Evelyn Hugo. Agree, but Evelyn Hugo is on a pretty high pedestal for me. I really loved Malibu Rising. I'm thankful that my library lets me reschedule the digital holds because everything has become available at once and I'm not sure what to read next. I have Big Summer on loan but don't know if I should do another Jennifer Weiner now or look to the stack of books I have purchased and ignored (glad to see I'm not the only one that has that issue of not reading what we buy)

I picked up Bunny and The 7 1/1 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle from the library today, so I'm bumping my to-read list a bit.
I finished The Martian this morning and I continued to love it all the way through. My husband had to endure frequent Watney updates from me for days.
I just read the first 40 pages of Bunny and I am already hooked. And even though this is entirely not the point, it's making me nostalgic for my pre-kids graduate school days 😅
