It's August already!
How was July for you? Did you read any fantastic or terrible books? Any books coming out this month that you're excited for?

Happy August!
All of my July reads were solid. Nothing outstanding but nothing terrible either.
I think Meet Me in Paradise was a June read but in case it wasn't I'll mention it again. Probably the best book I've read this summer.
Other July reads: A Special Place for Women *** Just Last Night **** Pack Up the Moon **** While We Were Dating ***
The only book on my radar for August is Blind Tiger by Sandra Brown. I am sure it will be ridiculous like most of her books but they are always fun fast reads.

I always read less in the summer since Iβm so busy with outside things. I read 7 in July which is my summer best so far! Three of them were on vacation where I detoxed from technology and one was a quick comic book.
5 stars: A Sand County Almanac, Among the Poppies, and They Can Talk (comic) 4 stars: The Book of Eels 2 stars: Adirondack, Monarchs and Milkweed, The Songbird and the Spy
Iβm excited for Owls of the Eastern Ice: a quest to find and save the world's largest owl. My library had a copy on order since winter and itβs finally being processed! Iβm one of the first holds so it come in early this week.

Only read four books this month, which is low for me but I also DNF three so that wasted a lot of reading time too (annoying!) Nothing particularly memorable either, hoping for less of a blah month in August!
Into Thin Air (***) While We Were Dating (***) Tales from the Hinterland (***) Jolene (***)

I only read one book in July! A short story, "The Haunting of Tram Car 015" by P. Djèlà Clark which I really enjoyed and now I'm reading the full length novel based in the same universe, A Dead Djinn in Cairo and so far it's great.
I said this last month but I've been so busy doing really fun enjoyable things with the family during our summer holidays that I haven't wanted to read I also haven't watched any TV or basically had much down time for a few weeks. So totally not the norm. School is starting up again and I'm sure this month I'll have some chances to read a few more books.
I know two authors I love have books coming out this month so that will definitely get me reading. Or at the very least downloading them to my Kindle. π

In July, I finished:
One Last Stop--enjoyable and very cute, but I found the characters all really similar and the style of witty banter that was constantly going on was tiresome at times
The Only Good Indians--there were things I loved about this book, but overall it wasn't a page turner for me
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine--I loved this book and I fell in love with Eleanor. I was not interested in reading this book but my mom kept suggesting it, and I am so glad I finally did.
And I got halfway through The Martian. I am finding it just as fun and fast paced as Project Hail Mary, but I think I liked PHM more for other reasons. I figured the main characters would be identical in terms of personality but it's not bothering me as much as I thought it would.

Iβve been out of books for a couple days, but discovered an unread book on my Kindle, woot! Itβs The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels. It looks bonkers, hopefully itβs fun.
I checked the preorders I have for this month. On deck: Along Came A Lady - Christy Caldwell (I have a vague sense I donβt love her writing, donβt know if I checked on that before ordering π¬). Allβs Well - Mona Awad. I believe I got it off an upcoming horror list, but all the reviews say itβs very funny, so I donβt know what to expect! Live and Let Grow - Penny Reid. She is VERY hit or miss for me, with a lean towards miss, so π€ The Heart Principle - Helen Hoang. I liked her creativity and interesting characters in previous books. Looking forward to this one.

Not all in July, but my recent reads were: Anxious People, Midnight Library, Invisible Life of Addie LaRux, In Five Years, November 9, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - I enjoyed all of them!
I am currently reading When We Were Orphans, Ishiguro and itβs slow for me. I am half way and still hoping it picks up.

I finished the audiobook Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Galdwell. Itβs not at all what I thought it would be and I learned a lot. Itβs well researched and the actual audio clips of real events makes it βentertaining.β Would highly recommend as audiobook as it might be boring to read.

July was a decent month for me. I read some good thrillers. My favorite was Local Woman Missing. The only book that was a total miss for me was Very Sincerely Yours, which I just found to be boring. Iβm reading Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell right now and really liking it! These are the books I finished in July:

I interestingly got an email from Amazon that my Kindle version of Malibu Rising was an unauthorized version and they refunded me my money. Now I'm wondering how different that version was than the authorized version. The ending on mine just seem very abrupt and I hated how it all came "together" and just ended. Could I have read a version that didn't end that way? Did anyone else get this notification from Amazon?

I finished While We Were Dating last night too, but that technically was August, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I finished 18 in July.
Standouts for me: Malibu Rising The Perfect Find One by One Beach Read The Secret Bridesmaid I tore through the Court of Thorns and Roses- high entertainment value, but I'm not sure how much I truly loved it.
Currently reading Devil in the Dark Water, and While Justice Sleeps and To Have and To Hoax just became available from the library. I'm basically reading as fast I can to keep up lol. Thinking I need to be picking more books on audio when they are available. On audio I'm listening to How to Catch a Sinful Marquess by Amy Rose Bennett. This is a new author for me.

So far on deck for August: Isn't it Bromantic Local Woman Missing Such A Quiet Place The Therapist The Stranger in the Mirror Not a Happy Family
I have a few more just in case I don't like one of the above. I've heard not great things about The Therapist so I am wondering if I push that to next month.

So there was a discussion about this on the peloton book club page and people were saying that whole characters/storylines were missing from the unauthorized version! I havenβt read it so I canβt help with the details but itβs definitely an issue.

I wouldn't have described the ending that way necessarily. For me, this is how I summarized the ending: {Spoiler} Full discussion on various celebrities at the party. Then at 5 am it cuts the Riva family sitting on the beach. I guess Jay & Hud fought over some girl that was alluded in previous chapters Some girl named Casey was sitting on the beach with them, that I guess is their half sister. I don't remember this being talked about in previous chapters. Nina decides to leave for a vacation.
Final sentences was Mick setting the house on fire.
I just hated that it seemed to just tie things up very quickly with so much time spent on characters at the party that we have no idea who they were!

Yeah, sounds like you missed a few chapters in the second half and that is not exactly the ending. We did not read the same book.
