I just received an email from Amazon with a statement from Kate Quinn that says if I liked The Rose Code, I must try The Riveria House (Natasha Lester) coming out Aug 31- WW2, espionage, protecting art at the Louvre. this sounds really good!

Yes, I'll definitely check it out. Not sure if I'll wait for library availability or use an audible credit since I like the narrator.

Iβm currently reading some Vivienne Lorret books, sheβs been around for a bit apparently but Iβve never come across her before. Definitely not a must read, but if you need a romance novel in a pinch, the writing isnβt bad. But man, if you are looking for someone who is going to reimagine romance cliches, Vivienne is not your girl. Of the four I read, I only emphatically do not recommend How to Forget a Duke. The third act breakup is the βI donβt deserve him!β And she is 100% correct, heβs a good dude and she is terrible.

mintyblueair, YES EXACTLY. You know how some books just have this... aesthetic, or something? That book makes me feel fuzzy around the edges like a dream sequence from an unsettling movie. I don't know how authors even do that, but Bunny was it for me. I thought it was crazy impressive. I was looking for a new book to read and I found this. I know you loved Bunny, so I wanted to share. Allβs Well, Mona Awad (Aug 3): From the critically acclaimed author of Bunny, a darkly funny novel about a theater professor suffering chronic pain, who in the process of staging a troubled production of Shakespeareβs most maligned play, suddenly and miraculously recovers.

Ooh! That sounds good. My holds for the Huntress and the Alice Network both came up, so Iβm making a library trip today. Even though I have a bunch of books TBR. I have to return Wide Sargasso Sea because I held on to it too long, but fortunately that was an easy one to get, so I may just re-request it.

I finished Long Bright River a few days ago. I thought it had a lot of potential but was disappointing in the end. I liked the writing style at first, but eventually it started to feel flat and monotonous. The reveals toward the end were weak and the climax was rushed and lacked drama.
I started The Night Watch by Sarah Waters but I haven't had time to read much yet. Seems promising so far!

I finished When The Reckoning Comes and really recommend it if you like horror - or even just light horror. It's like a blend of Get Out and Kindred and I loved it

I read The Southern Book Clubβs Guide to Slaying Vampires today. Iβm glad I read The Final Girl Support Group first, because otherwise I would never in a million years have made it through this one. Since I was prepared for it to be way darker than the title suggests, I made it through. But whew, that was rough. Hendrix is a good writer, but he doesnβt pull any punches. Itβs interesting that both books have female protagonists who have trouble getting people to take them seriously about a threat, though for very different reasons.

I finished The Secret Bridesmaid a few days ago and it was ok. I thought the romance aspect was weak but the rest was cute. Iβve been craving an actual romance and all of my recent books have kind of failed in that department so I reread a few of my favorite romances from the past couple of years of the last few days and that helped!
Back to thrillers for now. I just started The Other Mrs.

Iβm headed to the library today. I finished such a quiet place and it was not the best.
I went to pull one of my books today and none sound like I want to read so hopefully something stands out today

Eager: the surprising, secret life of beavers and why they matter by Ben Goldfarb was decent albeit repetitive. There was a lot of individual(s) discover how awesome beavers are and fight local politicians/ranch owners/etc to stop killing them or fight to reintroduce them.
Bottom line: Beavers are pretty amazing and the author argues that they are the solution to 98% of our environmental woes. The stories about how quickly beavers helped restore habitats were pretty wild.
Random: After WWII, Idaho parachuted beavers in special boxes into the backcountry to help spread the population.

The Last Anniversary was meh. I am finding that Liane Moriartyβs books are pretty hit or miss for me.
Iβm reading the Seven Day Switch now.

I finished The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth last night. A good mystery is exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump. I really liked this one! Very well written and a good page turner. I finished this one just now and loved it.

I got to visit an independent book store this week and it was so much fun to go in without a plan and just see where the shelves led me. I came out with a lot of historical fiction.

I randomly Google the 100 best books of all time and choose from there. I bought Lolita and Anna Karenina. I am almost done with Lolita and while very well written, it's content is very triggering. Anna k. will be my first Tolstoy novel but I'm known to like a long read so hopefully I will enjoy.

I had a few months where I didn't feel like reading and barely read anything and I just accepted it and tried not to let it bother me.
But now I'm reading so much, and there are so many books that I'm really enjoying, and I love it.
It totally helps that the weather here is awful right now (60s, gray skies, rain) and has been for weeks, and my H is traveling a lot.
I'm really enjoying it -having quite a few books that I'm liking not that my H is gone often right now or that the weather sucks π.
