I finished The Things We Cannot Say last night and enjoyed it. I found the main character to be irritating at points but the story made those parts worthwhile. I’m not a big crier but teared up at points.

I finished The Midnight Library. If you read it, what did you think? I liked the ending and the main point of the book, but it was just ok to me overall. I would say I felt similarly, but an extra star for audio because Carey Mulligan narrated it and I thought she was perfect.

I started The Secret Bridesmaid in audio and started One by One by Ruth Ware from the library- it’s hitting my escapist craving- snowy alps sound perfect this time of year.
Also finished up The Inheritance Games, which ended up being just ok to me, but I’ll of course read the next installment in September.

I finished Don't You Forget About Me. I didn't really enjoy it. I was expecting a 2nd chance romance but it was more just contemporary fiction.
Now I'm reading Spoiler Alert and The Invisible Husband of Frick Island.

I picked up The Secret Bridesmaid last night and this morning to get a little break. Thanks @imapenquin I think it was you that recommended it. I’m about 100 pages in

Finished Final Girl Support Group and I REALLY really liked it. I'm waiting to see how my feelings will settle because sometimes my opinion changes a bit after a few days. It didn't feel like Grady Hendrix's other books for some reason. It didn't have the kind of humor the others have. But it made me feel like I was watching a slasher flick as I read which was fun. (It's also super graphic and disturbing, fyi.)

tatorhead328, I feel like I need a few days to settle on a feeling for lost books too. If I went through my goodreads ratings I’ve done right when I finished I’d bet 90% of them would be different.

I finished Malibu Rising this weekend and I do believe this is the first book where ending just made me mad. I'll add a spoiler in case.... {Spoiler}So the party starts and then there's all this discussion about random famous people. Meanwhile the main characters are just sitting out at the beach figuring things out?!?! Why wasn't the focus on them?
Also, am I supposed to know who Casey is? Is this talked about at all throughout any of the book?
I was so mad at the end and how rushed and unfinished it was. Why spend time on all those characters just to get some broad stroke of now everything is going to work out?!

I finished Nothing to See Here on my drive this morning. The audio is definitely what makes it 5 stars for me. I probably would have liked it fine as a printed book, but the narrator was amazing.

I read Winter Cottage (3.5 stars), Spring House (3 stars), and Honeysuckle Season (3 stars), all by Mary Ellen Taylor, last week. I was in need of some escapist romantic suspense. They were all okay, but none of them stood out as particularly memorable novels.

I finished Wilder Girls by Rory Power and You Don’t Have to Say that You Love me by Sherman Alexie Jr.
Wilder Girls is a dystopian YA novel about an all girls boarding school on a tiny island off the coast of Maine where they are 18 months ish into a CDC imposed quarantine for an unknown disease outbreak that has impacted the whole school. It’s definitely a lot to handle with COVID going on, but I was in a head space to cope. It’s sort of Stephen King meets Lord of the Flies. 4/5 stars
The Alexie book is a memoir about his mother and his childhood growing up on a reservation. He writes partially in prose partially in poetry and I loved that format. Definitely TW for domestic violence and rape. Also I didn’t know that the author was accused of harassment/predatory behavior in the height of Me Too until after finishing the book. I’m not sure I would have read it had I known beforehand. I think he wrote it in 2016 and he talked a lot about how trauma breeds trauma-causers which knowing about the accusations in hindsight feels icky. Would not recommend knowing what I know now, but while reading I would have given 3/5 stars.

I finished The Therapist by B.A. Paris. It wasn’t my favorite of hers. The protagonist was kind of annoying and I thought it was too long/overwritten in parts. But it was a quick read.
I’m going to start Who is Maud Dixon? next.

Recently finished Ten Thousand Doors of January. I struggled in the middle but am glad that I stuck with it and really liked it overall.
Just started That Summer.

The Secret Bridesmaid was a fun read. I appreciated that the romance was definitely secondary to the story. A 27 dresses/the wedding date mashup and reminiscent of all the other wedding romcom movies from the 90s/00s that I can recall. If you like watching those, you'll like this.

I paused on Girl A because Confessions on the 7:45 came in from the library half way done with it but I am really enjoying it.

I'd been waiting forever for my hold on Malibu Rising to come in, but now that it's here I just can't bring myself to start it. I have no idea why - I LOVED both Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo.
I ended up started Amanda Kloots's book, which also came in, instead. Maybe I'll just delay Malibu Rising for some time when I'm more in the mood.

I'm having that thing happen where all of my holds come up. I started People We Meet on Vacation yesterday on audio. Then I got notices for the next Bridgerton (Eloise) on Libby and One Last Stop at my library. But While We Were Dating came in the mail last week. UGH.

I just finished Malibu Riding and also found the ending to be anticlimactic. I also read the Plated Prisoner series while on vacation. ( Diordra, you might like this one.) It’s new adult fantasy if that’s anyone else’s jam, too. TWs for sexual assault, FYI. At first, I was not into it and almost stopped reading the first book. But then the story totally hooked me, and I blew through the rest. Sad that I have to wait until next May for the 4th book.

Someone here mentioned the royal holiday and it sounded cute so I listened to it and liked it! I enjoyed the fact that it was about two well established 50 somethings. Not what I was expecting.
I also just read the list that changed my life and enjoyed it as well, although it had a few awful grammar mistakes. Normally wouldn’t bother me, but it was “Me and Jack….” A few times. That’s pretty bad. The storyline was good though.
I’m going to read the Soulmate Equation next.
