Anyone read any good mystery/suspense/thrillers lately? I did The Woman in the Window, The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and The Wives last beach trip. We're going again next week so I'm looking for more recs. If you don’t mind a YA mystery, the Truly Devious series was fun.

I finished Local Woman Missing and it was wild. There were a ton of twists, most of which I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed it. (I feel like I always say this but lots of TW in this one, too!) I want to read a romcom next but I’m not sure which one. I need to go through my TBR list to see if anything looks good right now. I just read a rom com from my library Libby that I thought was enjoyable (although completely fluff fantasy). Much Ado About You by Samantha Young. (Eta American girl winds up in some random English village and runs a bookstore, if you read it, please let me know so I can discuss the “twist” 😂) I have a couple others out on Libby Kindle that I haven’t started. People We Meet On Vacation, Guncle, and Bookstore on the Beach. (The last two came recommended by friends.)

My current reading is pretty random: The first Lady Sherlock book; Wuthering Heights (a teen friend of the family has to read for school, and hates it so far, so since I’ve never read it, I’m buddy-reading it for support); Random Lorraine Heath romance; The Old Man and the Sea; And I’m trying to choose between several meaty nonfiction books but can’t commit to one.
In addition to the Libby reads in my PP, I also have a paperback copy of Fresh Water for Flowers, which was recommended.
Oh, I recently read The Last Bookshop in London, it was underdeveloped in some regards, but still an interesting read. I recommend it.
I also read Hemingway in Love, by A. E. Hotchner (recently visited Hemingway house in Key West, hence the kick lately). I love A Moveable Feast, and I thought The Paris Wife was an interesting companion to that when I read it years back. Hotchner’s book is a slim little thing, and obviously he’s very loyal to his subject, but it filled in some gaps. Incredibly sad but a worthy read.
I am recommitting myself to my reading stack to keep myself out of the COVID threads (and news). 🥴

We're going again next week so I'm looking for more recs. Taylor Jenkins Reid (who wrote Evelyn Hugo)'s other books are great. I like some more than others, but I haven't disliked any of her books. Have you read Riley Sager? His books are good and mystery/thriller. Final Girls is the only title I can immediately remember, but I did like that one.

I finished The Good Sister last night. I really enjoyed it. It was pretty predictable, but it read almost like contemporary fiction, which I love, so I was pleasantly surprised. I also LOVED Fern.

All the missing girls was my favorite of hers, but I've liked them all and I have her newest ready to read soon.

The ending is OTT for sure. But I thought it was well written and it was one of the few thrillers where I didn’t have a clue where it was going until the end. Let me know what you think if you read it!

My library recently changed their receipts, and they now show my savings from using the library. It makes me laugh, but I’m also like THIS IS WHY LIBRARIES ARE AMAZING!!

Our library does this and I saved $400 the other day! They check out museum passes so I got the pass to the local dinosaur museum, which is awesome.

I finished Court of Roses and Thorns and it’s going to be tough to wait 2 months for the next one from the library. I was starting to get some Outlander vibes in the last quarter (the violence, torture, get together only to be torn apart) which made me really frustrated and almost not want to finish, so I’m hoping the rest of the series isn’t too much like that.

I'm about halfway through the audio of People We Meet on Vacation. I'm struggling to even want to turn it on. The two main characters' "witty" banter makes me nuts. Should I keep on?

I couldn't finish this one. I just didn't like the characters at all. I was definitely in the minority though! I'm struggling through While We Were Dating right now. Yawn. I am about halfway through and I am positive I can tell you exactly how this will end.

I loved this one but the writing doesn’t really change so if you’re not digging it, I’d walk away. Life’s too short and filled with books you will enjoy!

I am about 40% through The Searcher (Tana French) and am really enjoying it. It's a slow start but I like the mystery in an Irish country setting.

I think we all have writers we vibe with for one reason or another but there’s no shame in setting a book aside if you aren’t enjoying it!
