And one huge district about an hour from me is furious that schools found out via the media. They have 0 guidance to live forward other than the note that was shared with the news. Yeah... **PFQ** Poof

I just don’t get it. Even though I was concerned about indoor dining and capacity for retail and all that, I understand the motivation. Trying to save businesses and jobs. But what do we gain by having kids take their masks off in group settings? Like absolutely nothing of any value. The economy piece is a bit puzzling to me too. At least in our state, I keep hearing about how busy the hospitality industry had been already, even with restrictions in place. I get wanting to open things up to full capacity, but having to wear masks indoors really doesn’t seem to be discouraging people from being out and about or visiting from out of state. Why does everything have to happen all at once? 😞

That’s a real shitty way to treat the people who have had to be miracle workers for the last 15+ months to make anything and everything work. I can’t imagine how awful that feels for them.

Does anyone have experience with BinaxNow home test kit? Is it the same as what you would get at Walgreens, etc. I know that those are for ages 3 and up but I couldn’t find any age restrictions on the home kit and I seem to recall someone mentioning other test kits specifying 18+.

I’m sorry for those struggling with accommodation issues. I didn’t mean to minimize that with my post but see how it could have come off that way.
I wish (and I know this never going to happen) that we could just be reasonable with how we approach things. Like if some kids are struggling in some settings (like speech), it would seem reasonable now with vaccines available to allow them to take off their masks when needed. But we just go to the extreme of all kids can take off masks to accommodate a few. Like I’m fine with it not being the same rules for a kid who doesn’t need the accommodation and a kid who does.

We have these at home. They are approved for ages 2 and up. They are about 75% accurate, best done the first 24 hrs of symptoms It’s like a pregnancy test. A line is a line and positive jazz

Hi everyone! This is politics tangential, but I feel like you all may appreciate my fangirling. I am pretty sure I’ve seen Ella Emhoff in my neighborhood a few times this past week. I think she might have moved here?!

My state health department is (or was, I’m not sure if they still are) giving the Binax kits out for free. I don’t know about age restrictions, but it’s a simple nose swab so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for a kid. They aren’t super accurate so if you get a positive it should be considered a true positive but if it’s negative and the person is symptomatic I would follow up with a non rapid test to be sure.

Someone shard in a fb group a screen shot from their superintendent that NYS Dept of Ed has said no changes can be made until after tomorrow and the cdc weighs in. So fx the CDC says nope to the plan. None of the districts in my county have made any announcement at all about it.

Unless you are symptomatic, it is now recommended ALL positive rapids be followed up with PCRs. It is only considered true positive for symptomatic individuals. Just as an FYI. These are what the group at wadsworth provides schools for screening purposes 🤷🏼♀️

My mom got a call from her district saying nothing has changed and that the state can go kick rocks. So that's how that is going

Welp masks are optional in my district if you're hot tomorrow. Of course all the anti-maskers kids will be hot upon arrival. Never did I think this would happen this year

cribs I gave my kid the speech that he may see kids without them because rules may be changing but my rules are he still has to wear it inside and can take it off for recess.

We are going to send them tomorrow but if they aren't making indoors we're done for the year. Both my kids have medical stuff unfortunately. Omg I'm so so mad. I know it's super privileged and luck that I can say fuck off we're out. Just leave shit alone

cribs I’m so sorry you have to worry about this. For NY to do this after being so strict floors me. The big joke has been what scandal is Cuomo in now. I hope your kids can continue for the end of the year.

He’s already throwing fundraisers for his next campaign and that leaked midweek. Take your pick 🤷🏼♀️ He changes his mind like the wind changes direction and everyone scrambles. On the other hand, the “unmask our kids” rally got no news attention 😂😂

This is making me really nervous for fall 😬 I'm over here reading the CDC begging parents to vaccinate their 12 year olds because they're getting super sick, and I'm looking at my 11 year old.....

Our district just released a statement. We are going to require masks. He cited exactly where in the state Ed reopening plan that masks are required. He said the media should never have had the letter and has causing mass confusion. He said the CDC and state Ed must be in agreement before they will lift that order so we are following that.
I love our superintendent but our area is so conservative I’m floored but relieved for now.

I just got an invite for an outdoor masked birthday party its like two different planets all in the same town

I'm listening to SOTU while I clean the kitchen and ::screams::
Vaccines are super great bc Donald T.rump made them (?) But also nobody should get the vaccine bc Bill Gates China lasers Italy cheese dust 5g?
Also Covid is fake, and we must open all the things because nobody gets sick with Covid, but also we know there are way more people who had Covid than had positive tests so we clearly have herd immunity?
::SCREEEEEEEAAAAAAMMMMM::

We got an email from DD's SI that basically said stop fucking harassing me about masks, we are going to continue masking through the end of the year so go shove it. But much nicer. He even quoted a big section of the letter in the email and attached it.
Then I checked my work email. My SI sent us one saying she was completely surprised by the Friday afternoon drop and wasn't expecting it. Masks still required for students and staff regardless of vax status through the end of the year.
NYSDOH wrote a letter to the CDC about guidance changes. Nothing was actually supposed to change until we hear back from the CDC. But yeah, fun weekend in education.

cnf newschannel 9 just ran an article how State Ed is trying to walk back the damage of the false information but it’s been a nightmare. I can’t imagine being in these positions.

I just got an email from our principal explaining that the kids will be wearing masks unless they are actually having trouble with the heat and not just opposed to wearing it.
So we are going to try tomorrow and hope things turn out ok. I don't know what the rest of the schools in my district will do but ours tends to be more strict with a lot of things compared to others so I'm not surprised

I just got an email from preschool that basically was like “we don’t care what you heard or what cuomo did or didn’t do. Masks still required.” Lol which is what I was expecting to hear anyway
