I'm actually feeling a bit hopeful with how our numbers are trending lately. The last few days have been super low in cases and I hope that continues. Our vaccination rate seems to be slowing pretty significantly but that doesn't surprise me.

We are 14 days away from the barn doors flying wide open on California. May the odds be ever in our favor. 🤷🏻♀️

Seems likely, even if it takes a few weeks. I know today's case numbers are lower because of the holiday weekend but to see a case count under 200 was just amazing. Which is crazy considering at the beginning of all of this, that same number seemed terrifying.

Our numbers are also looking pretty good. We are down to a 2.4% positivity rate. H got his 2nd vaccine on Friday.

Moderna applies for full FDA approval "We are pleased to announce this important step in the U.S. regulatory process for a Biologics License Application of our COVID-19 vaccine," Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, said in a press release. "We look forward to working with the FDA and will continue to submit data from our phrase three study and complete the rolling submission." link

We're still masking while we're out and the majority are as well, but I'm seeing the number of masks decline slowly here.

I went to Target yesterday and still 90% were masked. And there was only one new case reported in my county today. I'm cautiously optimistic? I have to be.

I took my kids to Target today and only saw 2 adults and 1 kid in masks other than us. I'd like to assume the adults at least are hopefully vaccinated (though I'm sure there are plenty who aren't) but obviously the kids aren't.

I hit fully vaccinated status last week and my thought was if the kids were with me, I would mask to model for them, but if so was on my own then I would go without a mask. I went into a convenience store unmasked this weekend and felt like a total jerk as the staff was still fully wearing masks. So now I’m wearing it even if I don’t have too.

Also, I am giving major side-eye to my friend’s OB. My friend has had to bring up vaccination to her doctor, they have not done any initiating. The doctor responded that they will respect if she wants or does not want to get the vax while pregnant and that there isn’t enough information and won’t be for a few years. Finally, my friend asked what the doctor would do and the doctor told her that she doesn’t planned to get the vax or have her kids vaxed 😡 This person is in healthcare, WTF!! Thankfully other than her other child, everyone in my friend’s work/home bubble has the vax.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school?

I would not trust an anti-vax OB to deliver my baby. Just nope. Anyone responsible for the health of my infant needs to believe in vaccine science.
I don’t think my OB clinic required patients to get vaccinated, but they checked my titers when I said we were about to TTC (thank goodness too - I’d lost MMR immunity) and kept checking in about me getting my TDAP/flu in 3rd tri.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? We're in a small rural area. There's about 40-60 kids per grade, depending on the level. We got closed down 2x over the last year for 2-4 weeks each, and were notified of cases not infrequently at the beginning of the year, but only once or twice since February. The last positive was at the end of April, I believe. And that was for the district, not my kids' school. I think it was a middle school child.

K-5 about 450 kids, we are only notified when its a direct exposure, however the district has a dashboard broken out by school and you can see how many iso'ing and how many cases by week.
We have not had to quarantine due to school exposure, only due to before/after care.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? Our school is about 400 kids K-5 and I haven’t received any notifications since returning mid-April. My understanding is that I would only be notified if my student met the criteria of being a contact. There is some limited testing data on our districts website and the last staff positive was week of 3/15 (although 5/10 was the last mandatory staff testing) and the last student positive was 3/22 but that is across all seven schools in our district. ETA: the rumor mill tells me we have had no positive student cases at our school.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? Our school district is big ...about 6,000 kids in K-12. Our elementary school is 1 of 3 and we have 14 Kindergarten classes of 17-25 kids. We get an email from the superintendent about once a week of covid cases. Any kids who were exposed (15+ mins maskless) to the positive cases are notified immediately though. We've also been testing 5% of the teacher+student population weekly in school and luckily have only had less than 10 cases each week district-wide. Last week's update was just 4 cases.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? Our school (preK-5) has about 150 kids. So far there have been 5 cases in students at the school, although none were determined to come from school spread. We have never been notified for close contact to a case (although we did remote from beginning of November to end of February). Our district doesn’t send out emails for each case anymore. They have a webpage you can check that lists for each case the school, date of diagnosis, and last day in school. Our entire district has had 139 cases (the vast majority in middle and high school) and there are about 2000 students in the district (PreK-12). Our district started out in September as 2 half days a week (2 cohorts). In mid February it switched to 2 full days (2 cohorts). In mid April we switched to 4 full days and one half day (combined cohorts). The last time it was asked at a BOE meeting it was stated that only 2 cases in the district had been determined to be from in school spread.

My kid isn't in person but we get notifications for his school anyway. We're in a big district. 870 kids in his elementary K-5. There were 15 cases in May.

Question for those whose kids are in school in person: about how big is their school, and about how often are you notified of a case in the school? My kindergartener is back in school 5 days/ week (in Brooklyn) as of May. Her school has about 500 kids enrolled from pre-k to grade 5. I think about 80% are currently in person. Prior to that she was there 2/3 days per week. From November to April, I think there were 2 10-day closures, where there were at least 2 positives in different classrooms at the same time. There were several additional positives that only resulted in individual classroom quarantines. I think since April we’ve had 1, possibly 2 more positives, but they just triggered individual classroom quarantines.

Ok, maybe we are in the norm then. It feels like once a week one of their schools has a case in the building which is a lot of sick kids.
I'm a spazz.

There are 3 elementary schools in our neighborhood, and from Jan -April is seemed like at least one was always closed, which meant at least 2 positives. A lot of our positives have actually not been kids though. We were closed last when a teacher and an aide who distributes meals to multiple classrooms both had positives, but no kids were reported.

The emails I get actually specify whether it was a student. I also have to remind myself that the identification of cases at a school does not necessarily mean it was contracted at school. Maybe some people are taking their kids to kiddie raves or something. #showerthoughts

Lots of parties and pictures of their kids hanging out with 20-30 people.
