I just found out my friend’s 14 year old had a pretty bad case of covid. The kid is at boarding school for sports and him and a couple of teammates got it. He didn’t have to go to the hospital but he was pretty sick for a long time. And this is a kid that is in amazing physical condition due to his sports training.
Argh. I hate when people say kids don’t get sick because they do.

Welp masks are optional in my district if you're hot tomorrow. Of course all the anti-maskers kids will be hot upon arrival. Never did I think this would happen this year Our district had a special school board meeting last night to make a decision. They’re “loosening” the guidelines. Masks can now be removed if seated at your desk and masks outside are now optional. ...and then there was a caveat that said “If not affected by the heat” mask must be worn when moving about the buildings and on busses. So yeah, I’m sure lots of the crazies who were planning the mask rallies will be sending their kids with no masks tomorrow.

So confusing! I’m one of these districts and while they did say if affected by the heat, kids can removed their masks, they didn’t say it was completely optional here on out. I’m sure some will like to interpret it that way but I just watched the middle school bus go by and every kid was wearing their mask. So here’s to hoping most took it the way I did of a loosening of guidelines but still required when up and moving around in buildings.

I'm also one of these districts, as is DD1 (different districts that she attends and I work in). Both have come out saying, originally, that masks will continue to be required. But I see a new email this morning from my work SI saying they might amend things after today depending on what the CDC does or says. My building is air conditioned, so the heat is not an issue for us, but DD1's school has said they would do a lot more and longer mask breaks this week with the heat. I don't know. There's like two weeks left, why are we doing this now?

Your Local Epidemiologist must have been reading our minds because she posted this this morning: yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/childhood-hospitalizationsI personally am a data person and found it reassuring. Others may not but either way it is good information IMO. Side note: all these months later and I still cannot spell Epidemiologist correctly on the first try. Or second. Of probably if my life depended on it...

Kids are masked Oh my! Teachers should not have to monitor the parents decisions. That’s so not fair. Our principal (K-2 school) just sent an email reiterating that kids should still be sent to school with a mask as the rules have only been “relaxed” saying masks may be removed “Specifically, while in classrooms and at their seats, students may remove their mask if they are feeling uncomfortable due to the heat.” I assume this is in response to kids showing up with no masks today.

So gross. People talking about intentionally harassing our super all weekend, purposely sending kids without masks in hopes that they'll get sent home so they can sue the district, calling people sheeples and screaming about "freedom, my choice, I don't need my kid to be uncomfortable so yours can be". Just disgusting. Sounds like they are sending home kids who showed up with no masks and are refusing to wear one if offered. FUN, THANKS ZUCKER.

I believe the 5-11 and 2-5yo groups are almost done (or are done, depending on location), and the 6mo-2yo group has already started dosing their first shots.

And the guy who started all the awful threads and attacking people is trying to rally a group to go storm the superintendent office within the next 30 minutes. Curiously I went to his FB. No surprise he is a die hard Trumper. Buuuuut, he is the owner of the company who's name is on the back of DD1'S t-ball jersey because they sponsored her team 😫

Cuomo at 11:30 for those wanting to watch

I truly don't understand these folks who seem so hung ho to risk their kid dying or being permantly disabled for "personal freedom." I truly hope no harm happens to these kids, but I do wonder if a kid ends up suffering long term effects because their parents were anti-mask, what those kids will think of their parents when they are older.

My kid is finishing the year by going to hang out when her class is outside. We live next door so that's fine. But still wtf
The principal was really good about it. I just think her teacher won't enforce masks anymore and I can't risk that with everything going on
Thanks for listening to my live blog!
Eta the principal said my daughter's teacher was beyond wrong just having it parent choice and maskless Monday. I feel much better even though she is still home

Once we hit 70% adults vaccinated, all restrictions outside of cdc recommended masking go away. No more contact tracing. No more screenings. No more occupancy limits. 😳😳

NY to fully reopen (minus masking in certain places, including school since it wasn't actually lifted today, of course) one we hit 70% vaccination rate for adults statewide. We're at 68.6% as of today. I just missed part, but now he's talking about low positivity rates for kids. He is saying CDC told him today that mask mandates for inside schools won't change for a few weeks, but yes it is lifted for outdoors. So all those a-holes on town FB can go shove it.

Pushing to offer in school vaccinations for 12-17 year olds.
So many of my 12 and 13 year old students are vaxxed and I'm so proud of them!
