I just had a very inappropriate thought reading this. But I don't even feel bad.

Went to Target a little while ago and about half the kids with their parents--clearly elementary age--were not wearing masks, and it made me so mad. This is why I won't let my kids do things like go to a birthday party and generally be around other kids still. Too many people just will not do the right thing.
And of course the state legislature is currently debating if individual school systems should be able to decide if kids have to wear masks. I don't think our governor will sign it, and even if it became law, I don't think our district would would drop the mask requirement. I just don't get it. WTF has changed for elementary kids that they wouldn't need to wear a mask???

doublestuf It's willful ignorance and misunderstanding of what the CDC said. Or just being and ass and not wanting to inconvenience yourself. Either way, it's infuriating.

Yes to the quarantine. No more tracking, no more isolating. Anything under the many revisions to EO 202 are gone. CDC actually does not require masks in schools. It is recommended indoors, but not required. Recommendations mean nothing in a regulatory sense and don’t have to be followed. My pediatrician sent a notice that they will still require masks in the office, based off the CDC recommendations to mask in medical facilities. So basically my kids could get a cold and still go to daycare/school now because what difference would it make if they tested positive? Isn’t that like basically saying at this point we expect any unvaccinated kids to be exposed and get this virus? Emergency regulations passed and are now in effect. Basically, everything that was still required by the EO is now required by law Keep an eye on the news and prepare for the comments ETA- Don’t spread around until the news breaks later if possible.

cmb I saw mentions of it on fb. People are furious because kids technically are required to wear a mask at all times that they are in public including beaches/parks.

Yeah, I asked about that and it’s all arm waving confusion because masks are also again required in daycares 🤷🏼♀️ It was done as an emergency rule. Pre-covid, I only know of one emergency rule that was done, and that’s because it had to be implemented in regulation asap.

For those of you curious about HI vacation travel, I just got back and it was great. Getting there was a lot of test stress and we had to show a negative test for the hotel to give us the keys. I thought I heard here that’s all changing over the summer, so if you’re vaccinated you may not need to test. I’d probably check hotel requirements just in case and have paper copies of vaccination record/negative tests.
It’s crowded and restaurants are busy. I wasn’t used to seeing so many people out and about. It seemed like normal busy time from 2019. Overall, we had a blast and found some relaxation and fun. I felt somewhat ok knowing those staying there had to show negative results, even though I know that’s not a guarantee.

My coworker keeps passing on 'advice' from his wife, who is a nurse. /mild tin foit hat wearer His latest is "do some research if you want to vaccinate your kid" since she's been doing a lot of research 🙄 I'm surprised she even got vaxxed. Probably only because her job required it.

I believe the HI requirement for negative tests extends until august still, so we are planning on having to get tested still. I need to figure out the process with Kaiser for travel related since qualifying for tests last year was hard without fever symptoms. I hadn’t thought about the hotel requirement, sogood to know to bring extra documentation of our tests. Which island were did you go to?

Can I ask what others are doing regarding kids outside and mask wearing? We've been very strict about always masking but the other day my daughter's friend said they are okay with the kids not wearing masks while playing (which is always outside but not necessarily distanced) if we were comfortable. My kids are 11, almost 6 and 3. We haven't been many places with lots of people with them, but they wore masks at the zoo and when walking through from the car/back when we took them to the lake front one time. I know comfort levels vary, but this family has been super strict as well so I'm wondering if I'm missing something or being over the top. Both of those are very possible.

I don’t make my son wear a mask outside. They don’t at pre-k either when they are playing outside. I’m not very worried about outside transmission.

The unvaccinated don't have to wear masks outside here anymore, and it is up to individual establishments to decide if they require masks or not. My kids don't wear them outdoors right now, but I make them put them on if we go into a store.

We don't have the girls wear masks outside anymore, unless required/high density like a zoo. School/daycare required masks outside, and all of our summer camps do too, but I think if they can be outside without being on top of each other, that's probably a bit overkill.

The HI governor announced yesterday that starting July 8, vaccinated people just have to upload their card. The state is probably not getting to 70% by the time we travel so the kid will still have to get tested unfortunately

I think dh had read their policy was testing required for 4 or 5+, so maybe poor DD is going to be the only one stuck testing before vacation. 😢🤦♀️

We finally made it to the states and it has been confusing figuring out the masking recommendations/rules/best practice I must admit. We were surprised to learn the CDC says we can follow the recommendations of vaccinated people as we are less than 90 days from infection and have been cleared. (We grownups also have 1 dose and will have 2nd soon)
We still mask indoors because most people seem to, and the kids as well. And I don’t want to make people uncomfortable. It is playgrounds I have been really uncertain about. Not many kids seem masked, and when one kid we didn’t know started hanging on my kid and I told my kid to keep distance, there was a huge brouhaha when that kid threw a tantrum — so I am really uncertain how to behave here.

We have one family we have never made DS wear masks with. Now, he wears them anytime we’re in public around people. On the playground if other kids are there. Anytime he’s around someone that is either unvaccinated (aka all children) or an adult we don’t know the vaccination status.
I’m probably on the extreme end.

My boys have just recently stopped wearing on playgrounds but know they are to keep their distance or if it’s crowded they leave. I have let them play with individual friends outside with no mask as well. Anytime we go in a store they are masked.

blablabirdie Playgrounds are hard. I usually just try to encourage my kids to play with known friends or less “in your face” games if it is a new friend. Cases had been low where I live, so we were not masking outdoors.

That is all super helpful, thanks all. We are done with school and I haven't signed them up for camp so it's mostly just home with the neighbor kids and playgrounds. It really helps to hear real world experiences.
