Well here we are, another month various levels of ok.
Youngest son's very wonderful girlfriend has stupid parents who don't want to get vaccinated And my oldest brother is wackadoodle, sent my mom printed 57 pages of anti covid vaccine craziness. My oldest sister already had covid, a very very mild case but she doesn't think she needs vaccine. gosh

I took custody of the 57 printed pages of wackadoodle, because it was haunting my mom. It was mostly op-eds from wacky websites. She debated mailing them back.

I already took care of them. And defined wackadoodle for her. In my opinion wackadoodles choose to believe the crazy and conspiracy theories and like an alcoholic, you can't fix them until they want to fix themselves Then she was relieved to think of it that way.

get your acts together, ND and WY Ohio is so sad. But that’s pretty much up there with what I’m seeing. My county is at 39% of the population with 1 vaccine and there’s tons of availability. We’re never going to get out of this.

We've lost our minds. We have a companion airfare expiring June 30 and I think we are going to fly to AZ for my parents' 50th anniversary next month (only our two daughters won't be vaccinated). The idea of it is giving me major anxiety, but here we are.

I got through my second Moderna shot with minimal side effects. Now both my kids have stuffiness and a little cough. I feel like it's the pollen because it is THICK and we finally have our windows all open. I bought one of the over-the-counter rapid Covid tests at CVS and had them do it and they're both negative.
Those tests are not cheap but nice to have when you have a nagging "what if" in the back of your head.

richard That is good to know they are available now. Not cheap but like you said, convenient. Especially since I'd rather run over to CVS to get tests for the kids than try and get into an urgent care anyway.

I was in and out of CVS in 2 minutes and they did the tests between school Google meets. Sometimes it's worth it to pay for convenience.

The idea of it is giving me major anxiety, but here we are. I am thinking of getting on a plane this week for a last minute trip to see my aunt. I can’t get out of work on Thursday so I’m missing when my cousin is driving up. I can either drive 6 hours one way myself for a 2.5 day visit OR get on a 1 hour 15 min flight. I’m freaking out at the thought of being in a small tube with people. But I really don’t want 12 hours of solo driving.

Or use a call in sick day? 😈

Flights are super expensive so it’s a win win if I only have one short flight and also save money. I’m in this weird space at work where I feel like I can’t even take a day off (long story short both positions directly under me are vacant so I’m doing those jobs and mine right now). It’s super unhealthy and I absolutely need to fix it. I can take Friday off but not Thursday due to some key meetings. Anyways, I need to go be with my family so I’m going to risk being in the tube for an hour and pray to the Pfizer gods that I don’t pick up covid.

The news out of India continues to just break my heart and scare me. I of course am so happy that we are able to do a few more things now with the vaccinations in my family and friends but man, the dichotomy compared to how India and South America are doing is really something. I'm trying not to let it totally override my happiness at seeing friends for the first time in forever, because I know that doesn't directly change what is going on there. I just feel so awful for their countries and how their governments failed them.

National park update: masks are required for all buildings. And most people complied, with the few exceptions being in the bathroom/shower house in the campground. A lot of people didn’t mask outside, but it really was fairly easy to socially distance outside with the exception of around the food areas in the valley (Yosemite). I felt very comfortable, all things considered, and frankly the fresh mountain and pine air is a lot of the draw so when we were 6’+ away from others, we had our masks off. We just kept them on our wrists to mask up quickly if needed.
I will say that a roadtrip and camping trip was stark contrast to the last year of hyper awareness and sanitizer 24/7! 🤣 kind of jumping off the deep end with that one!

UVA did a study and based on how many adults are vaccinated they think my county could reach herd immunity in June
That would give me such peace of mind for my kids' safety

I don’t have much hope for the rest of our area or state but it will make things more peaceful for me in the summer and when school starts again in the fall.

I have some junior rangers that have missed the fun of getting badges. I’m glad they will require masks in the buildings.
