I am in kind of a strange work situation, of which I can do nothing, but find a bit frustrating. There is a junior person working on my program doing lab work- which is in person and she is comfortable going to do it. The lab has strict protocols about people not being in the space at the same time and if you go out of the area, you have to quarantine from the lab for 2 weeks. This employee really likes to travel and has been out of the country for trips etc. during covid times, and yes she can use vacation as she wants, but every time she does, she has to quarantine for 2 weeks and can't do the lab experiments. We are already limited because of covid protocols, but this is putting us even further behind. She's already had to quarantine a month since the New Year and I just found out she has to quarantine again I’m really surprised that your employer is being so accommodating about this. Seems like she is taking advantage.

Dr Ali Khan, an epidemiologist, is one of my favorite local follows. He showed up to every city council meeting where mask mandates were discussed. He reposted this and thought you all may enjoy it too.

My skin test was negative for PEG, which isn't surprising. The doctor's visit was overall very disappointing and I know no more now than before I went in. Why is it so hard for doctors to show an ounce of caring? He wouldn't do any testing or provide any recommendations other than the skin test for PEG, which my research shows may not even be enough. Shrugged about all of my swelling, said it will be worse next time- take advil. *shrugs* He does think it will be more appropriate for me to get the J+J shot and everybody's doing it so just get a new CDC card and pretend like the moderna never happened. I am typically not an easily box checked patient and I am used to having to argue with doctors, but like why does it have to be this way? Whoa was this the Dr I recommended?? I'm sorry that was your experience!!

The one I had seen wasn’t racially motivated but that someone working in the lab came into contact with the virus and didn’t know they were infected with it. They then spread it. But I saw that like a year ago so who knows if that’s still the thought now. Even that theory is basically saying it's China's fault, though. And I'm not defending China itself, but putting the blame there is a hallmark of trumpets and other racists, and so I take it with trucks of salt. There were plenty of people suggesting if not outright accusing China of releasing it on purpose so your knee jerk reaction wasn't really off base

Did anyone who had a second shot already NOT have any side effects? We’re scheduled next Friday for our second dose of Moderna and I’m trying to figure out how present we’ll be with our kids over the weekend. It’s also closing weekend for the ski hill we go to, so I’m hoping we can feel ok 38 hours later to take the kids one last day. My mother, gran, next door neighbor and BFF's H all had zero side effects from either dose.

enchanted, I'm sorry you're feeling crappy again. I'm pretty sure I'll be the same way in 2 weeks when I get my second shot. I had blocked my calendar for the day after, but of course a super important, 4-hour work meeting got scheduled then. Are you taking Tylenol / Advil? I hope you can get some downtime, anyway, and feel better soon.

Myself and the kids are at my mom’s house because she’s fully vaccinated now. Woot.
(I also had my first Moderna shot Thursday and have just had a slightly sore arm.)

Woof well my immune system is laughing at me.
All was fine and well until about midnight last night (around 14 hours post shot) and I woke up to pee and could tell I was running a fever and had chills. When I worked up the nerve to get up, my body started shaking violently and it was hard to stay still on the toilet. I had some ibuprofen which helped with the shaking but my fever has been all night plus the headache, fatigue and muscle aches everywhere. I haven’t felt flu symptoms in years and years so this is lovely ha. Better than covid of course. But I am going back to bed and really hoping I feel better soon.

Have we decided that there is anecdotal correlation to vaccine reaction and blood type? I’m A (+? not sure) and a bit nervous about it and trying to schedule my shot for when the baby is at daycare (he’ll only be going twice a day).

My second shot is kicking my butt. I got my shot at 3 and started feeling bad around 10. I was able to get some sleep but haven't been able to get myself out of bed yet. I have bad body ache and my head hurts and feel like I got hit by a truck. I need to get out of bed and take something and see if that helps.
ETA I'm O+

Willow these were my symptoms after my second dose. Including the middle of the night wake up. The day after the shot I felt like complete garbage but by hour 40 I was mostly fine. I had all kinds of weird lymph node swelling too but that was more annoying than painful. My shoulder is still mildly achy, which is weird because I'm 2.5 weeks post-shot.

willow, I had the fever, muscle aches, sore arm, queasiness. etc. I was fortunate enough just to retreat to bed. And being grateful I still had my emergency stash of ginger ale full of sugar. Even chicken soup didn't appeal to me. At about hour 30 post shot (Moderna #2) it was a switch flipping and I felt much better. My sleep patterns did get a bit disrupted, though. Hoping you also feel that switch flip very soon!

My dad is getting his first shot today! He became eligible on Thursday but we had a hard time getting him and appointment. I was kind of obsessive about checking yesterday and got annoyed when I found him appointments but he missed them because he didn’t see my texts. So the second time I found him an appointment I called him and made him book it on the phone. He’s my last person I had to work on.

I'm sorry others are not feeling well, too.
My stomach seems to have finally settled down and while the aches aren't entirely gone, they're minor enough that I can go about my usual Saturday.

willow, your night sounds similar to mine. Was that your first dose or second? Around 4pm yesterday (26hrs post 1st shot) I started to get a headache. By 7pm, it was raging and accompanied by nausea and chills. That lasted all night. Woke up at 5am with a gushing bloody nose (I never get those). By 8am, it was all better. Even my arm hurts much less. I'm grateful I was able to sleep through most of that.

The pharmacy called my ILs yesterday because they are on the wait list for the vaccine. My MIL is the type who needs to have her hair and makeup done to go out of the house so they DIDN'T go. She could tell that we were annoyed when she told us. Like they don't care! Just go.

Well at just over the 24 hour mark, after a nap and a shower, I’m feeling almost back to 100%. So it was roughly 12 hours or so of awful. I’m glad it’s over!

The appointments went so quickly so I am happy he checked when he did.
