I’ve been following the Peloton coverage and have mixed feelings on it. I also watched the video and it was awful. That said (and I’m not trying to parent shame at all), it appeared that two very young children were playing ON the moving tread, unsupervised. I feel like that’s a recipe for disaster, no matter the type of treadmill. I always think about Mike Tyson’s child and what happened there - and that wasn’t a peloton, obviously. So we’ve always kept our treadmills (and all gym equipment) in a locked room. If we couldn’t do that, we would remove the key. I’m not sure why people are bent out of shape about removing the key 🤷🏼♀️. BUT all that being said, I do hope they attempt to find a fix for it because mistakes happen and I’m all for safety improvements.

Speaking of the tread+ incident, the someone on the peloton subreddit just posted an email update. https://www.reddit.com/r/pelotoncycle/comments/mtigre/tread_update_email_from_john_foley/ The link isn’t working for me but I got an email, too, so I’m guessing it’s the same one? I’ll the body of it behind a spoiler - it’s long but doesn’t really contain a lot of helpful info, to be honest! Last month, I wrote to remind everyone about our important warnings and safety instructions after we learned about the tragic accident involving a Tread+ where a child died. Today, I want to thank our incredible Member community for your tremendous response. Many of you offered tips for working out safely at home, and I want to share a few of those suggestions and make sure you know that our teams are working on ways to make it easier to follow our instructions for the safe operation of your Tread+. Before I do that, I want to let you know what’s happened in the past month. After we learned about the child’s death, we immediately reported to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Since then we have fully cooperated with CPSC and responded to all of their requests, with one exception: we resisted their demands for personally identifiable information of certain Members because those Members had specifically requested that we not provide that information to CPSC. At no time was Peloton trying to impede CPSC’s investigation. We were simply standing behind our Members’ right to maintain their privacy, and we remain committed to providing this type of information only with a Member’s consent or pursuant to a subpoena. Government agencies shouldn’t have unfettered access to consumers’ private information, and I am proud that we took a stand to protect these Members’ privacy. I imagine some Members asked for their information to be protected in order to avoid personal attacks like some that we’ve seen in response to the Tread+ incidents that CPSC publicized yesterday. Our hearts go out to Members who have had an incident where a child or pet was injured and who want their privacy at this time. As a parent myself, I hope that our Peloton community continues to treat each other with respect and compassion. You may also have read news reports suggesting that CPSC believes that we should stop selling or recall the Tread+. I want to assure you that we have no intention of doing so. The Tread+ is safe when our warnings and safety instructions are followed, and we know that, every day, thousands of Members enjoy working out safely on their Tread+. But I urge you to stay vigilant. Remember, the Tread+ is not for children under 16, and children, pets, and objects need to be kept away from the Tread+ at all times. When the Tread+ is not in use, store the Safety Key away from the Tread+ and out of reach of children. Our Tread instructors remind us at the beginning and end of each class to keep these safety instructions top of mind. In addition, many of you have chimed in on social media in recent weeks to share helpful tips, such as working out during naptime, having someone watch the kids while you work out, or using a baby gate to keep children, pets, and objects away. Thank you for sharing those suggestions with our community. Finally, I’m proud to share that our Tread+ product team is working on a new software-enabled, backup access code that will provide an additional layer of protection against unwanted use of the Tread+. We are working hard to roll this out soon! We will continue to look for new ways to maintain our goal of leading the industry in safety and Member experience. As always, everyone at Peloton cares deeply about your health and wellness, including your safety and privacy. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our Support team at support@onepeloton.com or 844-410-0141 and one of our team members will gladly assist you.

Yes that one. Sounds like they might start requirimg a digit access key to be input before the treadmill will start. That would definitely help I would think, at least to keep kids from getting it going on their own.

That would definitely help I would think, at least to keep kids from getting it going on their own. That was my H’s suggestion which is not surprising because he’s a software engineer. But I would be all for 2 factors for startup because there is always the possibility that someone could forget to remove the key. I like a software solution because they could push that out quickly so it would have an immediate positive impact.

Today I was crunched for time so I just managed a 30 min old JKE ride. I didn’t get a great output because everyone was downstairs and distracting me but oh well, it was sweaty and I got it done anyway!

Hello! I managed a walk and then I only had a little bit of time for a ride so I did a 15 minute pop ride with Cody. It felt great.

Today should be a good day. My reflux meds are working, and I’m thrilled about that. I am going to do some sort of workout, and eating should be decent. This is the best feeling ever. I ran out this morning and went without and got some tonight and had to take two, lol.

I hurt my foot last weekend and wasn't sure what had happened--probably some form of stress and/or early arthritis (whoopee!), so I hadn't ridden all week. I hopped on today in my stupid "walking the dog" cargo pants and no socks (I keep my shoes clipped onto the pedals) and did Ally Love's 20 minute low impact ride. Best soundtrack ever (all Broadway).

radiantfate - my run with Chase made me think of you this morning because I remember you saying you liked him. I wanted to check in and see how you’re doing. Hope all is well ❤️ Sorry I haven’t been around! My kid was stuck doing distance learning because of a COVID outbreak at his school, thankfully he didn’t get it and is back at school tomorrow. We’re all good! I didn’t do any workouts last week but definitely on the schedule this week ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) hope you’re well too!

My toddler brought a cold home from daycare so he and I are semi-quarantining ourselves from the family. I’m the only one who seems to have caught it from him so that’s fun. We have testing appts tomorrow. Feel like sinusy garbage right now, ugh ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) So my movement this weekend was sweeping out the garage and concrete pad, and mopping all the floors in the house. All with the “help” of the 2yo 🤨

I realized I was kind of avoiding the tread since the random vibrating bothers me so I forced myself to give it a go today. It is breaking in some and today's run went better than the last as far as it not distracting me so much. And I PRed so that was a big relief that I was able to get right back into it despite having not run much at all this month. I hope this base continues to break in more because I don't see any point in asking for another base swap right now since it could be coming from the same batch as my last two. I'd rather this one just work normally.
30 min pop run with Matty 10 min cooldown with Becs 5 min lower body stretch with Ben

I think the idea of an access code for the tread + is great and hopefully they get that rolled out ASAP here. I’ve been on mine where I accidentally bumped into the speed knob and off it went. It should not be that easy to start it. Now my kids are not allowed in my room or on or near the tread or the bike even (I’ve seen injuries on that, too), but I can see how accidents can happen to anyone. It just happens so fast. Hopefully Peloton comes out with a guard for the back of the tread and sends it to all owners.
In the tread group, someone posted a video of their tread + with a guard on that her husband designed. It’s a black plastic piece that fits perfectly and looks like it was an original part of it. People are suggesting that they patent it and pitch the idea to Peloton, which would be great because it really looked amazing.

Rec your air friers? I have a Cosori I got on prime day a few years ago. I use it constantly and love it. It lives over the fridge and requires me to use a stool to get it down and put it away. A few weeks ago I dropped it lifting it over my head to put it back and the casing around the top cracked badly. I've been avoiding it since I'm nervous about the cracked open, exposed element, but I was finally curious enough to try it. It can't seem to keep enough air pressure? I don't know how they how they work, but it's running for about two minutes then the basket is popping out and pausing it. I'm bummed and need a new one now. Tell me what to buy? I have a power xl it's great. it's big though. i store it in the garage.

i have so many feelings on that video from peloton. i don't know how to voice them with out sounding like i am shaming those parents and that's not my intention. i will say that i don't think it's smart for peloton to double down the way they are. i feel yes, keep standing behind the safety precautions you preach, absolutely. But while doing so, put forward a fix so this won't be an issue in the future. I also feel a code to access is a band aid fix. Add the back cover and be done with it. IF a member has designed one that works than the reason peloton is shying away from it is NOT because it affects the tread or how it operates. So are they shying away for vanity reasons?

Otherwise I will complete day 4 of mbf. Food: B: everything bagel with cream cheese S: egg muffin L: chef salad homemade D: crock pot pulled chicken and black bean taco / salad.

H woke me up at 4:15 this morning because he said I was snoring (HE LIES). Anyway, I couldn't fall back to sleep before I got up for 6 AM CF, so I'm dragging. I'm definitely going to use that as an excuse to go to bed early with no guilt tonight.
I'm desperately trying to come up with a meal plan for this week. Nothing sounds good, I'm so over cooking.

sweetp, i feel ya on the cooking. last week i didn't plan and ate like garbage. i planned the easiest meals that required zero to little time to prep. I prepped egg muffins for breakfast. Have pre cut all salad toppings to toss onto pre cut lettuce and topping with pre cooked and cubed ham.. Dinners - crockpot chicken and black bean (just dumped everything in) crockpot chicken and gravy over biscuits (again, a dump and go minus biscuits) left overs or sandwiches... they might not be the healthiest but they are healthy with little time in the kitchen. Find simple easy recipes to get you thru the week. and take all the shortcuts!

Just catching up here, we've been discussing the Tread+ news here all weekend of course. Ours is supposed to be delivered in two weeks.
So, one thing I think is odd about that email is that the CPSC asked Peloton for member contact information. I worked for an e-commerce site for ten years and when there was a recall of a product we sold, WE would contact the customers and let them know, not the CPSC. I suppose it could be because a) Peloton is the manufacturer and we were just a reseller, and b) there is apparently an ongoing investigation here, but I still think it's oddly more aggressive than I have known the CPSC to be. I don't fault Peloton for not giving out member info if those members EXPLICITLY asked not to have their info shared, which is what that letter makes it sound like.
Ours will be in our new gym space in my parents' garage, but we're still planning on having the key stored separately from the Tread whenever it's not in use. Our youngest is seven, so not really little but still young enough to be stupid and get hurt. My mom wants to install a surveillance camera in the gym now, too, just to be extra safe.

I think that obviously parental responsibility is the number one safety priority. However, I think it’s ignorant to think that is the only answer and that something tragic couldn’t happen with even the highest level of vigilance.
I’m honestly a little disappointed in Peloton’s stance of leaving sole responsibility on the user. I like that they are working on a passcode to begin use and think that will be helpful. I think they also have some responsibility as a company targeting parents (child and pet) to try to reduce chance of injury as much as possible and in this case I think they need to come through with a design to prevent things getting sucked under.
The initial child death brought to our attention that we absolutely need to remove the key when not in use. We are super vigilant when anything is in use and making sure the kids are not around. However, we’ve decided that this is still naive to think that this is enough. We are now shopping for solutions to lock the folding doors that lead to the workout area (inside and outside) and potentially replacing the doors entirely with traditional french doors that lock.

We are also house shopping and having a separate lockable space for the workout area will now be a deal breaker.
