Oh, thatâs the same police department that I saw this morning (was it here?) in a tweet that was just fucking around writing CPD in their helicopter while flying. Shit, that was the same police department

This is also heartbreaking. George Floyd, his family, the people who loved him, this young girl who had to watch him die but did what she could... the damage is so widespread. ETA: this sounds so negative... I donât mean to take away from this girlâs joy at her actions mattering and doing good. Iâm just thinking back to her other quotes about feeling guilty that she couldnât do more. That a child was put in a position where she felt this way, the pressure she must have felt waiting for the news đ

Before I knew there would be a verdict today, I placed an order for slices of cake from my favorite place to deliver to my sister after a terrible few days for her.
I pulled up and parked just as the verdict came over the radio.
I gave the restaurant staff my name and said I was here to pick up cake that would now be celebration cake and the counter staff smiled the biggest smile.
Iâm thankful the system got it right today.

POTUS, VPOTUS, and FLOTUS called the Floyd family right after the verdict.

Fuck them immensely, but at the same time letâs not forget this isnât subscribed to them only. The awfulness of police departments spreads across the entirety of the country. I should have been more clear, my "them" was inclusive of all police.

Fucking CPD. I literally canât.
There was a riot that took place on OSUâs campus this past weekend. Police were called at 10:30pm but there was no significant police presence to disperse the (OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE!) crowd until 3:30am.
At least OSUâs student government is not here for CPDâs bullshit. (Paragraphs 3 & 4)

Wow, they just keep going. How are we ever going be able to stop all this? by dismantling. We've got a long way to go.

So I finally got to watch his reaction to the verdict. He had zero emotion. He knew he murdered this man.

And also it just is so insane that if we took the circumstances in a vacuum without assigning a role to Chauvin; if it were just two men filmed where the one man stands on the other man's neck for nearly 10 minutes....there probably wouldn't have even been a trial, the man would have pled guilty to 2nd degree in exchange for a lighter sentence. It is absolutely abhorrent how protected police officers are.

Like, maybe don't take a job that is apparently so dangerous that you have to consider murdering everyone who crosses your path? Let's be honest - is the job so dangerous because of it's nature, or is it so dangerous because they've made it dangerous by their own actions?

They literally brought a gun to a knife fight yesterday and it will likely be deemed justified. Iâm sorry but if you start to view all the people you serve as threats, itâs time to hang up the badge.

I think the last line is the big thing - they are taught from the beginning of the academy to view everyone as a threat. Throw in inherent bias and outright white supremacy and it's an ingrained recipe for disaster from the bottom up. I just don't see how any sort of meaningful change can happen without starting over completely.

This really resonated with me and until we solve for this mindset, we are, sadly, going to see more of the same. Attachment Deleted

I also think that we can't have any meaningful change without gun reform. And I'm not very optimistic about that.

It's very similar to what happens in the military and it's heartbreaking.

This doesn't solve it but I'm pretty comfortable with the idea that all white people have lost their gun privileges AND I side-eye the shit out of any white person with a permit. Just an opinion lol there's no way to enforce this.

Iâm just sad. I donât even know how the sentencing will go.
Even when cops are found guilty it doesnât mean much. Like look at Jason van dyke- on camera shown he killed Laquan McDonald with 17 shots in his back and he got SIX FUCKING YEARS. six years for killing a 17yo in the back as he walked away from them.
We need gun reform and police system reform / abolishment.

Not supposed to carry in the mall, but he was âwilling to take the consequences of his actionsâ because he is a âgood guy with a gun.â So beyond fucked and, as you may suspect, there were no consequences.

Absolutely. I'm sure the no consequences will be extended, as always, to white women who want guns for their "safety" but happen to be karen-ing around town. Oh okay.

He even stated that he went to police as soon as he was out the door, arms up, with the gun out in his hand. Meanwhile, there was words exchanged between the 21yo Black father of 3 and the 18yo & 16yo Black brothers it MUST be gang related. Those boys were working full time, living at home and the younger working on his GED. It is all bullshit and following the engrained narrative that happens here.
