Let me say this. I haaaaate pod casts. Trying to hear this one. I know I'll be the only one but i don't want to hear from classmates neighbors and family etc. Maybe cause it just drags this podcast shit for me. I feel like Chris Lambert (the host) keeps it moving. He interviews people, but they have a purpose, like to talk about what a skeez Paul has always been even in high school or they were at the party that night. Not a lot of filler. I really hope you like the podcast. This was my first true crime podcast and I really enjoyed it which made me think I’d like others. But then when I saw where a lot of people said In Your Own Backyard is the best one they’ve listened to so maybe my expectations are too high now. I feel weird saying I “enjoyed” it because it’s awful what happened. I found it very interesting and couldn’t stop listening.

So, I think you'd enjoy others. Really good ones (IMO): Serial (1st Season), Breakdown, In the Dark, Bear Brook, Dirty John, Dr. Death Criminal is excellent as well but the format is different; they are short and follow a different crime story each time, not always dark and scary.

Hmm, well. I didn’t love this podcast. I actually found it predominantly filler.
Okay, a woman found a shoe. Okay, Kristen maybe has a turquoise earring and maybe the renters found something like it. Okay, this guy says Paul was odd in high school and at the Coca-Cola place.
Being weird doesn’t make you a murderer, which is why Paul is still free. Make no mistake, I think he did it, but this podcast didn’t convince me of that.
What I do think it did was bring fresh interest to a case on life support and I respect that 100%. The Smarts deserve to bury their daughter.

If anyone is looking for recs, Tenfold More Wicked and The Fall Line are amazing true crime podcasts - Tenfold is historical, Fall Line is unsolved missing persons cases in the American south. Superb research, engaging, no filler.

That case reminds me of an episode of CSI Las Vegas called Chaos Theory. Funny how the kid mentions, the proximity of "tcnj" to Trenton and how the university tries to downplay that. I mean, they went so far as to change the name of the school to get rid of the word "Trenton", so he ain't wrong Random: that was the first CSI episode I ever watched. So good!

It boils down to the same thing, though - there is no hard evidence that links him to Kristen’s death. Why that is can definitely be attributed to police messing up. But a hundred stories of why Paul probably did it because he’s always been weird will never convict him. That’s my only point. My hope is this podcast brings about some evidence that takes him down.

Oh yeah, this was like maybe a C on a true crime podcast grade. I only listened so intently because I know this case well.

Aw, I liked this podcast a lot, more than so many others. I'm probably biased, though. The shoe episode is one that could have been edited down, I do agree.

I don't think Paul is going down for this, ever honestly. I think this search will kind of go like the others where just nothing ever happens. I hope I'm wrong.

Found an earring and can't confirm it is hers so why talk about it the smarts have to have seen the replica like I did? An alarm? Omg it has to Hve been her watch alarm. Well can't her parents confirm she had a watch alarm? This seems very specific like they would know.

I also don't get the outrage in this thread on him pleading the 5th? There is a reason why we have the right to not self incriminate. Hello? I'm not answering one question cause then I can't plead the 5th correctly so I will do it to all.

I learned an ADHD hack recently from tiktok to listen to podcasts at 1.5x speed. Life changing. I now do it when I’m watching recordings of meetings I’ve missed and significantly hate people less when I don’t have to listen to slow talkers.

Double speed if I’m short on time.

He isn't free because being weird doesn't = murderer. He is free because the Sheriff and campus police fucked up the investigation. He is free cause of lack of evidence. You can't use feelings and innuendo to arrest. You definitely can’t use feelings and innuendo to arrest, but the lack of evidence is due (in part) to the police ducking up the investigation. The ball was dropped left and right.

I'm not saying they did a great job. I'm saying there isn't shit to arrest him on. It's all theories and make believe. You have people even in this thread talking like things are fact when nothing has been proven. She was under the cement. It was her watch. She was then moved. The earring. It makes for salacious tales but factually it isn't shit.

I’m on episode three and the facts of the case that I have heard could have fit into one episode. I feel like much shorter snippets or summaries could have been done explaining Kristin as a person and Paul as a person. Those parts were pretty boring. Like “hey five girls said he did creepy stuff, one of which started randomly talking about her flower bushes? Here are some of the examples”. Personally I didn’t need to hear about it on and on.

I get the approach of the podcaster - I do. It’s to generate anger that Paul has been free this whole time and motivate people to find things against Paul specifically since he is the prime suspect.
Running the alternative angle - all the ways that the police bungled the whole investigation - is a dicey road for many reasons. Also, a layman podcasting about intricate police investigations without all the details or knowledge to back it up would ring false.
But look at this thread - the podcaster got people talking about the case again. That is a major win however he chose to tell the story.

I found it on Google Podcasts. I found it on Spotify. I'm just whiny and like all of my podcasts in one place. Lol oh this is me. I have about 3 podcasts I want to listen to but theyre not on stitcher, so I mostly just don't bother. I am making my way through this one on spotify but I always forget to check there.

Some of them were legit complaints like following girls home, groping and peeping Tom activities, but the rest was very general. Which I get because I know people who are CREEPY but I couldn’t exactly lay it out for you why. It’s inflammatory in this instance and used to fuel the Paul is bad narrative. I prefer facts and actual instances of misbehavior. I believe they didn’t like him a ton, I was just listening to them thinking he could have wrapped this up by saying something like “I have spoken to several of his classmates and they all reported feeling uneasy around him and unsurprised by the rumors”.

The story about the coworker who drove him home is very telling. He had a predatory attitude towards women. This goes beyond the "weirdo Paul" feeling.
