Even watching all the trailers, and reading reviews, I didn't expect a lot of what actually occurred - and yet it all felt inevitable. And apparently what my heart wanted.
An absolutely wonderful set up. And I want to send flowers and appreciation to the MCU's casting personnel.
I used some kleenex already - for both Sam, and his family, and those daily life battles, and when he did the 'right' thing that may have been just the absolute 'wrong' thing in DC? And for Bucky as well....I don't even know what to say about his scenes. Although flowers, and Battleship, and lunch with the old man - and so wanting, too, to be able to make amends. Boy, Shuri did great work - and the reference to Wakanda and peace just about made me cry out loud. I did have to laugh about how Bucky seems destined to take on bullies in alleys, though. Unique should be more respectful to his elders, IMO.
Hmm...I get why Bucky isn't picking up Sam's texts, and how Sam it is to keep texting. But I wonder if there will be conversation about who's holding Steve's shield right now, right? How are these guys getting together.
And, good intro for Flag Smashers for me, since I don't really read the comics.
I'm still stuck on what shield that actually is? Where did it come from? When did it come from? It wasn't the shield that Steve carried in Endgame.
And speaking of budgeting for heroes - wonder how Bucky's financials are as well.
Budgeting for TV - Marvel didn't skimp one penny that I could see.
I'm thinking maybe he gets backpay for bieng a POW for over 70 years.
I feel so bad for Bucky and his "amends" making. Though I laughed at the Congresswoman and his "amends" with her. He really wants to tell Yori the truth and apologize to him, but he also craves the connection with the man that he knows will disappear as soon as he does.
Also, I'm Team Sarah right now. She's been holding it all together and Sam comes in all mad because she can't do it anymore.
After seeing a lot of things posted elsewhere and thinking about it, Bucky's therapist sucks. Like 100%. She's in no way building a repore with him so that he'd want to talk. I'd be closed off and standoffish with her too.

I hated the super up close shots during the appointment. It made me dislike the entire scene. Please pull the camera back so I can ogle the entire package.

I loved Bucky's facial expressions. Sebastian Stan has a way of really conveying emotion with his eyes. So in that context, I didn't mind the close ups. But I do enjoy a good ogle too.
But the whole phone thing? Like he can connect with people and not call/text them.
H is over here talking about how stupid the bank is for turning down an Avenger. But, as I mentioned to him, racism!
Even Avengers can't escape it. Fuck that bank.
Which I think is exactly the point they are making. I went on a mini-rant to H about that scene being the reality for so many Black Americans and how it doesn't matter who you are. And the AUDACITY of that bank manager asking for a selfie after! Makes me seethe.
I like the therapist. I don't think anyone could have Bucky open up in a matter of a few months, and she knows him well enough to know when he's lying, and he admitted the thing about having a bit in Wakanda, and fighting constantly. And she knew he doesn't actually want peace. [This is not me wanting to fight about the therapist lol, I love it for you if you hate her.]
As I said, fuck that bank. And I get his sister's anger.
I loved the date. I love Sam's little Air Force buddy.
I want to see how they hook up!
I can not yet discuss them giving the shield to someone else, because I am too angry.
I think my thing with the therapist is that I'm seeing posts by mental health professionals who are all "that's not okay and no way should you do that with a patient". So it's definitely coloring my view.
I also loved the date. It's totally my type of date! Hanging out and playing board games? Sign me up.
Speaking of Torres, there's some people on tumblr that I follow that are jokingly shipping him with Bucky right now. They have two "potential" ship names "Borres" and "Tucky". H wants to argue for "WinterSmash" because Torres got smashed by FlagSmasher (also jokingly) because "those other two suck"

I think for an average person, sure. But I am kind of side-eyeing (maybe side-eyeing isn't the right term, I just find it odd) therapists who expect the therapist of a super soldier/former assassin to be at all realistic/matching their schooling. I also think Bucky would eat a "regular" therapist alive.
I told H we have to do drinking Battleship.
Omg Tucky
Our battleship game is missing a ship right now, so we'll have to wait on it. H would probably prefer strip Battleship, tbh. He's trying to convince me that strip Magic the Gathering should be a thing.

I don't know why strip Magic is entertaining me so much. Try it! Who knows? 😂
I told him I would. At least once. Lol. We're having a mini at home date night tomorrow, but we're running Date Night Dungeon instead. Basically a tabletop rpg for a couple to run together. They even added some additional rules to "spice it up". I'm excited.
I enjoyed it so much! I do have questions for those more in the know.
Who is the dude that replaced Steve at the end? Do we know him from somewhere?
So did everyone else gather that Steve is dead? Or do we think Sam knows where he is and he just went into sort of hermit exile life because now he’s old and it would be hard to explain? It would feel weird that he just up and died only a few months after endgame (I know he’s old but still).
I did like the explanation of how avengers get paid. Sort of a random side thing that fans probably think about but is never addressed in movies. I am laughing that it’s just “goodwill” and sponsors - I’m guessing the sponsors are pretty generous.
Poor Bucky. It must be so so hard for him. Although I did have the thought that if I was on a date with a guy indoors and he wouldn’t take his gloves off, it would be a red alert to leave immediately lol. I would assume he was a serial killer.
I am back and forth on the therapist. I’ve been in therapy for 5 years for PTSD and of course my experience is light years different but I can’t imagine being spoken to that way about my trauma. But there could be history and context between the two of them and he clearly seems fine with how she reacts to him, so.
The way he had to stop the little arm from rocking back and forth when he was on the date!
His facial expressions are great.
This is actually one thing I really like about his acting. I’ve seen people be like oh he cant act, he doesn’t have lines but it’s so hard to convey a perspective with no words!
willow that was John Walker aka US Agent. He’s from the captain American comics
As for Steve being dead, I really don’t think Sam knows where he is. Mr “no I don’t think I will” wouldn’t even tell him about Peggy 😂 but if anyone knows I bet it’s Bucky

Yeah I was just thinking that if he’s alive, he’ll see the news on tv presumably and probably be pissed.

He’d 100% be back to jumping out of planes in no time lol
First of all, DELACROIX, LOUISIANA! I’m glad they made Falcon from LA. Is that in the comics or because of Anthony Mackie? I really thought Torres was going to be part of flag smash or whatever the heck that group is. Between that name and LAF, I was cringing a bit. I feel so sorry for Bucky, but dang. He just walked out on that date. I was a little bit disappointed, but I think that's because I LOVED wandavision.

I love love love seeing both him and Mackie really get to flex their acting skills in this. It's not just cocky one-liners and action. They aren't just sidekicks and background characters. They are both so great at forecasting genuine emotion.

So Torres is from the comics and he eventually takes over the mantle of the Falcon. So if they do him dirty like that, I'd be pissed.

Mackie seriously did a great job of transitioning from military/avenger to brother/uncle. And I got a chuckle out of the boys’ Uncle Sam also being a national defender of Uncle Sam.
A friend of mine ended up loving WandaVision, but was so confused. Another friend referred her to Age of Ultron (as did Disney+, now that I think about it), and that helped her a lot. I don't recall that they had the Legends available pre-WandaVision.
I am curious how Marvel will work out the Phase 4 and beyond movies and the shows. I know Feige said they'll be integrated, but just ensuring that the movie only people are good to go might be a little bit of a challenge. Then again, I have very little idea about the Immortals (I don't comic book much) and I'm looking forward to that movie, and the others.
And now I'm just hoping that Black Widow will be released soon, and that I'll have my shots and feel comfy heading back into the theater. I love watching the movies at home, but there certainly was a lot to be said watching Endgame at the actual show with an audience. So much cheering, etc - well, and lots of hankies at certain points.
Black Widow is 5/9 I believe! I’m sure someone mentioned this.
I may or may not have looked into every movie opening in 2021 now that theaters are opening up here again...
My H and I are excited for Friday! I’m not attracted to either actor that plays Bucky and Sam but I just am excited for more Marvel stuff.
Perfect. More Sebastian Stan for me.
He looked so good this episode.
So did Anthony Mackie.
I feel like I never contribute anything to these threads, but I’m reading anyway. I have seen all the Marvel movies, some more than once, and I feel like I know nothing compared to you all here. 😂

Oh phew. Torres was totally giving me “I’m going to get killed off and be the catalyst for why Falcon does xyz”.
Going to watch again later and of course right now I'm more fixated on Bucky.
On reflection, I think I like Bucky's therapist. First, how easy is it to find someone who must have a very high security clearance and not be terrified to be in the same room as the Winter Soldier to start out with, personal military experience or not? And to be responsible, to some extent, to identify if Bucky would return to any murderous ways before that happens? And, being a therapist to a national icon studied in grammar school who is also an internationally infamous assassin? What a great job description.
She kind of reminded me of some of my old school nuns/teachers way back when, just tough as nails. She seemed to me like she just doesn't back down from dealing with both his traumas, and her own, maybe to both their benefit. How realistic that is for real life, no idea. But he is interacting with her, even when fibbing and pushing back. That seemed pretty human to me, and so far from 'ready to comply' status.
I'd love to know how widely known Bucky's dual identity is to the general public, being both the Winter Soldier and Sergeant Barnes, inseparable on both schoolyard and battleground from the beloved Captain America. I thought there was a tiny mention of the Winter Soldier in Far From Home so maybe the whole pardon thing came then? Pictures still all over the Captain America exhibit, after all.
And a pardon - not 'not guilty'. I wonder who issued that pardon, and is it global or what? And I want to say an old instagram of Sebastian's when FAWS was first introduced mentioned 'white wolf'. Will Wakanda come to play a bigger role in Bucky's future? He seemed so wistful about that tiny bit of peaceful time.
And I can understand why Bucky and Sam wouldn't be recognized just out in the world. Who expects to see someone famous in your local bank or neighborhood sushi bar?
Was one of Sam's ignored texts going to broach the plan of returning the shield to the Smithsonian, to get Bucky's input? I Rhodey seemed to not be a fan of that idea. And, unless Sam played around with the shield while he had it, would Bucky still be the last person in the world who really knows how to throw that frisbee around with skill? Kind of doubt Bucky would be the first on the list for the Army to call as a tutor.
Wyatt Russell seemed charming during that interview event - but I want to punch him as Captain America. Which I suppose is the point.
How many enhanced people are on this show? That one guy in the smashing flag segment seemed awfully strong to me?
And guess there was no public funeral for Steve Rogers, faked or not. I wonder if we'll find out where old Steve is? I kind of loved the moon base idea - wasn't there a comic run where one of the Watchers had a moon base? Wonder how Sam's possession of the shield came to federal attention? Did I miss an explanation?
And, again, I love Marvel's casting decisions. Such good actors in every single role.
Hmm, 267 stories in AO3 under Falcon & Winter Soldier tv show
I don't think I buy Tony not giving the avengers any money. I could see Sam not taking it, but I don't believe Tony wouldn't try to give them any, either while he was alive or after.
I think Tony subsidized the Avengers certainly during life. And Far From Home showed us Peter Parker getting all sorts of Stark-related stuff (hmm, did Tony just keep hoping against hope during the Blip that Peter would somehow be back and set things up just in case?)
And where are the wonderful toys in FAWS coming from? Falcon's gear? Even Torres referenced Stark level materials. And Bucky's cute little guidance system? I mean, maybe Wakanda? Shuri may have a soft spot for Bucky at least after fixing him?
That said, hard for me to imagine how everything must have gotten weird during the Blip, including all the financial institutions. And, how many legal issues were raised, and how all the Returns must be triggering lawsuits everywhere.
