Somebody tell me to stop buying plants. In the last few weeks I've bought sunflower seeds, milkweed, some native honeysuckles, salvia, blueberry bushes, black eyed Susans....I could go on. This is on top of the seeds I started for bee balm alongside my veggie seedlings. And I'm eyeing mountain laurel next. I might have a problem. My covid gardening needs tapered too. Last Friday I built two retaining walls and tomorrow I plan to take the kids to the nursery to buy a tree for one side , and whatever DD wants to plant for the other as her own garden. My planter beds from last year still have huge tomato plants, and some celery plants from 2 months ago. I started my zuke a few weeks ago and almost want to buy another container for more. Oh and my mom sent me sweet corn seeds from Iowa since I wanted to try those. In CA. Please someone stop me. I need more land! Eta: I popped into the wrong thread so I’m sorry for zombie’ing a 3 week old topic. I am in awe. I love the idea of gardening but inevitably I see an insect and become completely disgusted. Eta: yes, I'm a complete whimp.

cakewenchThe Boy With the Big Big Feelings by Lee The Feelings Book by Parr The Color Monster by Llenas Big Feelings by Penfold Little Unicorn is Angry by Chien Chow Chine I’m mostly a lurker but thank you for these recommendations. My 2.5 year old daughter has now been ‘written up’ at daycare for picking on one of her classmates and I’m at a loss because this behavior doesn’t occur at home.

I made MH take care of a spider in the house this morning so I'm also a wimp.

I still gag when I see worms and weird bugs, but if I know it’s not touching me, I can usually power through.

I have all these memories as a kid of a beautiful garden with tons of fun produce. We used to have to weed it for chores and pick the green beans or whatever else was growing. Raw beans tasted so good.
All this garden talk makes me sad to think my kids won’t get that experience. I need to invest time into figuring out what works best in a high desert climate. Did most of you always have your green thumbs or did you learn?

For any desert climate I'd look into raised beds to start!

Oh caterpillars are one thing Portugal does wrong. We have processionary caterpillars and they can cause real damage. Thankfully they travel in straight lines tail to nose so they are easy to avoid.

Did most of you always have your green thumbs or did you learn? High desert?? Hello, I am also high desert. I grew up in the very far north, though, so any latent gardening knowledge I have is not hugely relevant. I joined a local gardening FB group, and the local university is an ag college and they put out tons of helpful gardening info. I'm just doing a container garden but I just might do a bigger one in the future. What I've learned is that there's a lot of things you can grow in hot, arid climates. You just need some heat mitigating factors sometimes. If you go to the trouble of having a greenhouse, you have even more options.

You might want to print out a feelings chart or something similar to help her name and recognize her feelings. We actually just talked about this at ECFE yesterday. We watched a video from conscious discipline (it can be really annoying, but the info is useful). Basically it tells you to help your toddler with their feelings with three steps. If they are reacting physically, to describe how their body is reacting. If they've moved beyond the physical, then naming their emotion. Finally, the last step is to acknowledge how they're feeling. Not giving them what they want but letting them know you see and hear them and are showing empathy. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.facebook.com/ConsciousDiscipline/videos/2224917921101648/&ved=2ahUKEwiXxqjniM7vAhUSVc0KHeVEAHQQo7QBMAN6BAgEEAE&usg=AOvVaw2FnbJkhZBHf8eT28yA1p4k

A local college ag extension is great too. I still don’t have a green thumb. I kill a lot of stuff. But being outdoors and digging in the dirt is so good for my anxiety.

I start pristiq today and I am much excite. I also got another "oh wow" out of the chiro this morning when he felt my shoulders, so that's fun 😂 at my first appointment he was like "this is just shitty. I'm sorry, I tried to think of another word, but damn." (He's excellent, so imagine this in a good tone.) I missed this earlier, but this is one of my meds. I’m not exaggerating when I say it has been life-changing in regards to my anxiety. I hope it works as well for you.

I didn’t go to zombie survival camp to raise a zombie, dammit 😆 ETA LOL I didn’t see it was a book title, I thought you were making a zombie joke. He loves dinosaurs, I will definitely check it out! Thank you! 😂😂 Also, I am sure you know this, but biting is a common thing to work through in kids. I don't bite anymore! ... Mostly 😂 I do, I know it's common and I 100% am aware my own stress levels are making me overreact (not to N, just internalizing it). I picked up a few of the books recommended, so we will just keep working at it. Twos were tame compared to threes, I think

Thanks for the tips. It turns out there is a good community garden organization here and I could learn by volunteering there. I haven’t killed my three Covid houseplants yet, so this may be my year to shine!

Three was so much harder than two. The attitude and the increased ability to get into trouble. They solve their own problems, which sounds great until you realize that a three year old’s problem is getting cookies down from on top the fridge and they are fully capable of dragging a dining chair over to do so. 🙄

Beverly Cleary died. 104.
This is where I admit I didn't realize she hadn't already died and yet, I'm still a little sad.

I was sad to see the news about Beverly Cleary, but what a life she had, and how many lives she touched.
I early voted yesterday. I really admire all the people who sign up to be judges. My location was adhering very strictly to COVID protocols. Using a cotton swab to stab at the touch screen is maybe something I think they should keep 'after'. Just seemed more sanitary.
I just hope we actually get people out to vote; we have mostly school and library boards elections but I often think those have more impact on daily life, now and in the future, than some of the more glamourous elections.

I'm cracking up. We were just hanging out in Liberty Sq having a coffee and these tourists were taking a billion pictures of their child and facetiming someone raving about the cherry blossoms they were under.
They were magnolia trees.

It’s funny because my DC cousin just posted a story with a bunch of the magnolia trees blossoming. I guess I am not used to flowering trees because I could have been fooled.
