The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is here. Some of my coworkers are getting it next week (CVS) and are excited about this one because it's one dose and they're done. Hopefully that motivates people and we can lose the narrative that it's a lesser vaccine. I do think the ease factor will balance that out.

My work opened a mass vaccination site in an underserved and hard hit area of our local community today. We are not billing for the vaccine administration so this is truly a community, get as as many people vaccinated as possible site. It’s been blood sweat and tears for our workforce involved launching it but I’m so proud of them. I love this so so much. Big kudos to your work! I wish I could find a way to volunteer for events like this. Need to dedicate some time to looking around but all I’ve found so far is for the big county run vax sites where all the appts are taken by the people with the best internet access. I know helping there would still help overall but I know the need is bigger in other areas.

I’m thrilled to see more mass sites getting set up here but so over Kemp’s ego. Every damn press conference he whines about the federal gov sending shots directly to retail pharmacies. And seeing all those appts at the mass site in Albany go unused all week is driving me insane. Get teachers vaccinated then expand the criteria fast and not just to the groups Kemp thinks will get him the most votes or lobby the hardest! Sorry for my GA rant. Clearly I will sit on your bench. ETA I’m confused by this federal site at MBS since Fulton County already runs a site there. This is weird.

Have we discussed Desantis giving vaccines to rich donors before the actual 1a tier groups?

I know we’ve seen the stats but it’s wild to hear doctors (last of replies to this post agree) say this. I read something reccently about how the flu season was fairly minimal this year because of covid mitigations. And yet, I see people posting about how Abbot has given Texas it's freedom back (from people not in Texas, of course) so I don't think everyone is paying attention.

Right before covid, the flu ran rampant through our daycare, too, and a local district had closed a couple elementary schools due to the number of flu cases they had. Both viruses are basically not a thing this year Ear infections are a different story... She had 4 infections in 3 months and got tubes in December 😪

I was thinking that I really hope it becomes standard procedure for patients in doctor's offices and hospitals to wear masks now, always. It's wild that we expect healthcare professionals to just get breathed all over all day and night. Yes. I will not sit in a waiting room at a medical office without a mask again. Seems so logical but we just didn’t do it.

Yesterday I went from no vaccine appointments to two 😳
I managed to get an appointment for Wednesday with CVS because they were open to teachers. That was the J+J vaccine. Then yesterday afternoon my superintendent announced that they will be vaccinating anyone who wants one next Friday with Pfizer (then again three weeks later). I’m going to keep the CVS appointment until I’m sure the school clinic is happening, which I assume he will tell us on Monday, and then I’ll cancel. But I hope this is a sign that our vaccine numbers have going up quickly. It feels weird to get a shot before my 64 year old mother because she is a year too young for the current tier.

There are so many open appointments in MN when I looked this morning. Having 70% of seniors done with their first shot is when they’ll open next tier up and I just read that’s on track to be this week. I feel like things are rolling here and I’m so hopeful.

I think next group is food processing plant workers and people with specific medical conditions (it’s a limited list). But I would guess that’s a pretty small group and would be done thru workplace and health care providers. So they may roll into the next tier somewhat quickly and into other essential workers. If I had to guess for your mom, I would guess she probably will be eligible based on age first.

Minnesota friends. If you know anyone who meets these criteria and lives (or works) in Dakota County, there are hundreds of available appointments. For March 8–12, Dakota County Public Health is only vaccinating the following: - People 65+ living in Dakota County. Proof of where you live is required. (ID, utility bill, etc.).
- Educators living or working in Dakota County. School ID or pay stub is required. This group includes pre-kindergarten through grade 12 (including adult basic and community education) school staff members or contracted school staff members.
- Child care workers living or working in Dakota County. Work ID, paystub, or license is required. This group includes child care staff members at licensed and certified child care centers and programs.
- Health care workers living or working in Dakota County. Work ID or paystub is required. This group includes people working in health care settings (doctors, nurses, personal care assistants, direct support professionals, etc.). This group also includes both paid and unpaid workers, as well as unpaid caregivers of persons with complex medical needs.
- Direct care providers living or working in Dakota County. Work ID or paystub required. This group includes people who provide direct care (firefighters, school nurses, dentists, mental health workers, etc.)
- Residents and workers in Dakota County long-term care, assisted-living and congregate care facilities. Work ID or paystub is required for workers. Proof of residency is not required for residents, but encouraged if you have it (ID, utility bill, etc.). This group includes people who work or live in long-term care, assisted-living facilities and congregate care facilities.
***You must be in one of the above groups to receive a vaccine from Dakota County Public Health. You will be turned away at the clinic if it is not your turn, even if you made an appointment.*** phappt.co.dakota.mn.us/clinic/search?q%5Bservices_name_in%5D%5B%5D=covid&location=&search_radius=All&q%5Bvenue_search_name_or_venue_name_i_cont%5D=&clinic_date_eq%5Byear%5D=&clinic_date_eq%5Bmonth%5D=&clinic_date_eq%5Bday%5D=&q%5Bvaccinations_name_i_cont%5D=&commit=Search#search_results

I’m a nerd so I obsessively crunch numbers. My county just passed the 10% mark of population over 16 being fully vaccinated. It’s happening.

My state has a full covid vaccine dashboard and lists the percentage vaccinated per counties. My county is just under 25% for partially vaccinated. Our entire state is at almost 14% fully vaccinated and 24% has received at least one dose. I'm excited to see the fully vaccinated number go up as we get more Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

My arm started to feel sore a few hours after my shot and I woke up today feeling worn out. I was able to take a nap and feel a lot better but glad I could have a low key day. I wonder how the second shot will go.
If you can schedule your shot when you can have the option to get some rest the next day, plan for it if you can! I had Moderna and my sister (a teacher) got Pfizer and said she had the same symptoms the next day too. I'll be interested to see how my coworkers do after Johnson and Johnson this week.
SC is supposed to get its biggest vaccine shipment this week, so really excited! Lots of school districts are making plans to vaccinate their staff. This makes me so hopeful.

fatpony well that just made me hopeful that maybe I’ll get called for a vaccine faster if they have to use up so many doses lol. God I’m just so fucking impatient at this point. I almost wish I didn’t even know we were in line for a vaccine through work.

I got my second shot Thursday. So relieving, I'm proud of Minnesota. On the other hand my sister is a HS teacher in Indiana and just this week got to sign up to get on a list for the vaccine.

I’m so jealous of everyone getting vaccines. I have a health condition that would get me vaccines in other states, but not in CA. Le sigh.

I’m sorry, sweetpea ❤️ I do feel bad sharing that I’m eligible when I know others are frustrated that they can’t get it, or vulnerable family members can’t get it. But we went from no priority for teachers, to a loophole via CVS, to the vaccines coming to us so quickly. It was a sudden shift that I hope will happen for everyone soon in the next month as shipping and availability gets better.

I don’t begrudge anyone getting the vaccine, well maybe the friends who got it through One Medical group in SF. You’re a godsend bring a teacher, I’ll wait my turn if it means not having to be around kids all day 😂. I read everyone should be vaccinated by mid-May now, so only 2 more months

A new article on the vaccines vs variants race.
Tl/dr is that while the UK variant is doubling in prevalence amongst all cases and will become the dominant strain, the fact that overall cases are plateauing but not yet climbing is a cautiously optimistic sign.

I’m so jealous of everyone getting vaccines. I have a health condition that would get me vaccines in other states, but not in CA. Le sigh. It's so hard. I'm eligible, and got my first shot by 'accident' - picking up prescriptions at the same time someone cancelled their appointment. Still don't confirmed date for second shot. Friends who are 84 and 67 still haven't been able to get a pharmacy appointment, despite computer savvy and diligent searching; and nothing from their county or medical group registrations. It is hard to be patient when seeing all the reports from various states and it seems all over the place. I do hope the continued upsurge in reliable deliveries continues. FWIW, my internist told me J&J was just great - but to take whatever vaccine I was first offered. I have comorbidities.
