I'm glad someone asked that bc I was wondering: the government is asking people planning to come here to please wait to do so until we can fix the mess Trump left behind. How are you getting that message out to the actual would-be migrants?
Mayorkas: We're working with the governments of the countries of origin and NGO's, but we consider it a responsibility of ours to communicate this

should reconciliation be used to push a path to citizenship bill?
Mayorkas: I'm not going to tell POTUS or Congress how to legislate

reporters want to go into the facilities in Texas but were told they couldn't because of Covid restrictions. Y tho?
Mayorkas: I support you having access, I'll reach out to find out exactly why you were told you couldn't come in and we'll work it out. I strongly support the important work journalists do, but I also have to be respectful of my workforce.

Jen reminds us that the extra unemployment benefits expire in 14 days and highlights the need for an extension of enhanced benefits as we continue in a K-shaped economic recovery

I remember getting the email that we would conduct a company-wide test of WFH on 3/13, and a bunch of us looking at each other going "Are we sure conducting this test on Friday the 13th is the best idea?"
I also brushed H off for saying we wouldn't be back in the office until fall at the absolute earliest. Sorry for that, H.

Zeke: Why on earth are we not punishing MBS?
Jen: this was obviously a horrific crime, but the ODNI report didn't tell us anything new that we would be forced to immediately act upon. But we have taken important steps against other Saudis

So why punish the people responsible but not the ONE MAN who ordered it?
Jen: We've recalibrated the relationship with KSA and are pushing them on human rights and US values, and we're not going to send fuckin Jared to do back room deals with MBS

I'm on team journalist side here.
MBS does need to be punished. Not just his underlings. And I'm aware of the tenuous relationship with SA but there is nothing to prevent them for doing this again.

question about the investigation into Cuomo
Jen: POTUS feels that women who come forward should be treated with dignity and respect. The NY AG is overseeing the investigation, with subpoena power, and the Governor has said he will fully cooperate. We support this and believe the investigation should be carried out.

POTUS supported Amazon workers organizing but stopped just short of saying they should be unionized. Why?
Jen: We can't weigh in specifically on individual cases before NLRB or Labor. But we believe in the rights of all workers to unionize.
That actually makes sense. It would be a bad look for them to weigh in.

POTUS said that we have to be tough on KSA, so why.....isn't...he?
Jen: We're doing lots of other stuff, we're just not going hard after MBS
(reporting from WaPo was that the consensus after lengthy discussions among the NSC and WH/State was that there's really no way to punish MBS without majorly jeopardizing the strategic alliance)

Geoff: Why keep pushing Neera, who doesn't have 50 votes, but not fight as hard for raising the minimum wage, which also doesn't have 50 votes?
Jen: Welllllll that's kinda a BS-ey way to ask that. He put it in the Covid package to get the minimum wage raised fast. And we have other legislative avenues for getting that raise through. WRT Neera, she's perfectly qualified and some Senators are just being stubborn buttheads.

Geoff: Does POTUS support nixing the filibuster as a means of passing voting rights protections? And if not, how will he leverage his political capital to protect voting rights?
Jen: POTUS fully supports the John Lewis For the People Act (HR1). POTUS' views on the filibuster are well known, but we feel any effort to make it easier for eligible voters to vote "is a positive step"

Ashley Parker: Where is the red line for sexual misconduct? Does it have to involve touching or is just asking inappropriate questions bad enough?
Jen: Ugh that story was so skeezy. We support the investigation playing out in full.
Ashley Parker: Would y'all demand a resignation over just saying inappropriate things or would physical overtures be required to take that step?
Jen: "The President has a bar for what is expected in his admininstration...we will leave it to the attorney general and others to [conduct their investigation]" before opining on the outcome

Kristin Fisher: is POTUS going to give our vaccines to Mexico?
Jen: no....?
KF: There are reports of a possible program that would bring hundreds of thousands of workers into the US to work legally. Is POTUS considering that?
Jen: That would be under Congress' purview.
KF: Why did yall bomb Syria without consulting Congress?
Jen: the committee chairs were notified, and we've offered classified briefings to anyone who would like one. But this was not the same as the 2017 strikes, this one was responding to the direct endangerment of US service members and personnel.
That was a sore spot for my boo this weekend. I'm glad they're offering briefings now.

that's a good question. There is a precedent that we don't sanction leaders of countries with whom we have diplomatic relationships, but it's not official policy. But if the murder of a US resident and journalist isn't enough to change the precedent, then what is?
Jen's holding really firm to her "We're doing stuff on KSA, just not this one thing because we can't" line

Jen: If you ask us about a meeting, we'll tell you
