Its so hard to imagine that 50 weeks ago we were all just going about our business, little did we know what we had in store.

The Senate has to bust ass this week between moving more confirmations and getting Covid relief done.
The House is working this week on HR 1 (the monster size voting protection bill) and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Cruise ships. I don't think all of that drama has received enough remembrance.

I always save my wall calendar pages, and I pulled out March 2020 yesterday to see when an annual appointment fell last year. I ended up looking through the whole calendar, because I recorded so much of what was going on indirectly, like the last time I had a babysitter or my son’s swim lessons. Or the first time I left the house after we were sent home from work (66 days of just my husband and kids! H even did all the errands). I started writing down the memories it brought up so I don’t lose them.

I was flying to a conference for work and only had a hint of “should I go”. My coworker laughed at people in masks at the airport. I got home and a week later everything shut down. 😭

I was scrolling through memories from the last year, and this picture still gives me chills and tears. (From March 31st)

On March 1 last year I was on maternity leave and I looked forward to going back to the office in a month. I brought home daycare enrollment forms for the baby. LOL SOB. On March 1 this year I learned I will continue to WFH at least through the end of June.

I was at my last in person mediation with a coworker who had stacked a bunch of work travel-by the time she made it to me she had been in 5 airports in 48 hours (with a mask, gloves, and wipes) but otherwise it was life as normal. Dinners out, drinks in bars, a hotel room all to myself. It ended 3/4 and I listened to NPR coverage for the 3 hour drive home, stopping in at a warehouse club to see if they had any disinfectant wipes left (they did not). It’s surreal.
Eta: now i am stalking my electronic health record for my antibody test results. 3/1/2020 me had much more fun than 3/1/2021 me.

Poofed triangulation details
MH came home from his trip freaked out, I ran to all the grocery stores and made a big stockpile (except I forgot the damn yeast that it took me months after that to find) and then we both got the flu.

It's been a wild year. I got my final vaccination yesterday. My agency had a few extra doses that would have gone to waste. (Our agency directive is clear - there will be no waste.) One of the site supervisors and I work very closely on a large project. He asked about my mom and they were able to give my mom her first vaccination. She is 64 and in remission from breast and skin cancer. I cried when they offered one for her. I am so grateful.

We were in the midst of buying our current house and getting our other house on the market. My husband's work trip to a conference the final week of Feb was canceled - that was the first whisper of what was to come.

I think it was this time last year that parts of Italy locked down and reports of past-capacity emergency rooms started coming out of Italy and Spain. That was definitely the point at which I got really serious about it. It wasn't that I didn't believe it was that bad in China, just that an authoritarian government is going to be much more willing to implement a lockdown than a parliamentary republic. And we always knew we weren't getting all the information out of China. When doctors themselves were taking to social media and explaining how horrific conditions were, it was impossible to compartmentalize it anymore.

My IL's had friends in Wuhan that were getting seriously ill in mid February-beginning of March so insisted we stock up on things. I went along with it thinking I was humoring them. Then on my BDay, the NBA Rudy Gobert game happened and the next day was the last DD1 attended preschool. I did not think at the time we would still be doing this by my next birthday.

My Aunt was backpacking through Northern Italy when everything started getting locked down and over run there. The only reason she was able to get a flight home was by flying out of a different country. Luckily she did not get ill.

We went on a trip to Colorado this time last year for FILs retirement party. Stayed with H's family friend, whose daughter was also visiting. She is an ER doctor, and was telling us to just wash our hands, stay away from sick people, it's basically like the flu.
I wonder how she feels about all this now. She wasn't wrong or dismissive, but didn't think it would be a huge deal.

We shrugged it off and thought my sister in SF was kooky for doing a 2wk quarantine after they came home from a month vacation in Colombia and flew through 2 international airports. God we were so, so wrong. At least my initial naiveness didn’t cause my family and friends harm 😕

But yeah, I probably should have (even though we drove, we did see a bunch of people while we were there).

My H was in Australia for work. He came back and stayed home for two weeks Then everything shut down. Luckily he didn’t get sick, but when I think about how he was in four major airports in a 30-hour period, I can’t believe it.

We were in Paris when the US announced their borders closing to mainland Europe! So we hopped on the Chunnel to London, hungout there for a few days until we could get our flights changed to get home.
