I have not heard of any deaths. Where have you seen this? It was in a local to me fb group for moms. A NP said her dad died from it and that they were told that there had been many more. I struggle with my anxiety of filtering out stupid conspiracy theories and I try to remind myself itās fb and all but sometimes it ramps me up. Iād ask for actual documentation and also consult my own doctor. And were any of the deaths in already extremely ill people. Like those already near death in a nursing home, etc. ?

Asa Hutchinson responded to a question about Marjory Taylor Green this morning by saying that we shouldn't expel from government people "who think a little bit differently " The FUCK?! āThink a little differentlyā as to how they mean it, no. āThink a little differentlyā as to not be ableist, absolutely. Fucking spin doctors of truth to lies, that they then call theories. Fuck them. He definitely meant "whacko conspiracy theories = thinking differently"

It is so overwhelming and their lies spread so fast and unchecked.

I say this gently and with the realization that my husband calls this place a mommy group, but fuck a local moms Facebook group as a source of information. I would stop reading that in totality if it is causes you that kind of anxiety. Yep. The amount of shit I see in the local fb mom group I am in....I would never consider that a legit source.

my friend has shown her stupidity not separating herself from the rest of her family at all when she got covid--but they tested negative she says. so then since before christmas it's worked it way thru her household including the 3 month old premie grandchild and the son in law who got very very sick. She's a just now retired nurse practictioner. today she sent me a link to a rumble video about why she's rethinking getting the vaccine. I did not watch much except that there was a lady on stage, a bunch of clapping and then fast forward to it's a biological agent, and you still have to wear a mask and x'd out of the page. I told her I don't get important info from rumble videos. or from youtube videos either. I didn't even know what rumble was. Ugh might be a similar thing. This person was supposedly an expert in biological weapons even though you google her and that's not listed anywhere on a reputable website. MIL did mention something about how you still have to wear a mask. I was like uhh yeah, so? That's what we're planning on doing. It's just more of the same crap. So I told friend I dont get info from videos. No matter source or topic I hate to watch videos about almost anything. Like start video on a difficult crochet pattern, watch 20 seconds, fast forward, watch 20 more seconds, go back to read pattern and close video. Same with video news. Anyways she replied I don't know how to verify or dispute this and no media source has undisputed veracity...Just something else and a different point of view. Im like um, different point of view about scientific facts? I told her to talk to her dr and oncologist.

People are not dying en mass because of the vaccine.
Full stop. The end.
Adverse events including death do happen on a very very very rare occasion. Itās why itās listed on the list of adverse reactions. But it is VERY VERY RARE. The likelihood of your husband dying are like the same as being in a plane crash into the ocean and then getting bit by a shark.
Also, mommy groups are also havens for the anti vax crowd. So Iād take anything you read there with like, a block of salt.

Honestly I wish our educational system, from grammar school on, placed way more emphasis on how to do decent research - original sources, checking reliability, etc. My high school did a decent job (at least I came out with a decent understanding of scientific method), but it really wasn't til college that I got a more comprehensive understanding - and have to use it.
I'm involved in many 'discussions' on NextDoor about whether my state is really that remiss in COVID vaccinations. Spoiler - not a superb job, but geez, not the worst either. So many "I heard from my neighbor", or "one 'dubious' news source said".
Hey, I like finding sources that back up my preferred hypothesis too...doesn't always work out for me, though! LOL
And I get people being a little nervous about J&J, let's say. My first reaction was, I'll wait for Pfizer or Moderna. Then I thought, hmm, if Dr. Fauci and my own physician say J&J would be just fine for me, and it's available, I'll be right there. I do admit I'm nervous about a AstraZeneca+Sputnik combo, though - and admit it's a kneejerk reaction right now.

Hey all- i wanted to share this cloth mask made by a textile company in Portugal. If you wanted to get one (adult and kid sizE available) I'd happily ship it to you. These are cloth resuable masks that have been tested to keep 95% of particles from getting through for at least 4 hours at a time and up to 50 washes. mo-online.com/pt/lp-produtos-antimicrobianos/Produto.htmlI havent bought any masks except a box of disposable "surgical" masks from walmart and got a couple of n95 way back last spring when i got 1 for each fanily member and my mom. I was contemplating what to buy thats better than the fabric masks ive made that we usually wear. These look amazing.

AmyG byjove addymacThe masks are currently $8 each adult or kid size (reece for ages 4-10) I'm not sure exact shipping costs but it would not be very high as they are very lightweight and i can send in a standard large envelope. Portugal's group citeve tested it at 95% particles caught after 10 washes, France's DGE saw more than 95% particles caught after 50 washes and Spain's Equilibrium group saw 90.2% particles after 50 washes. And it was specifically tested and designed with Covid in mind which is to me the biggest thing. It seems to be a combination or factors that help it be more effective than a typical mask. Quoted from the site: "First textile mask tested against SARS-CoV-2, by the Molecular Medicine Institute. It contains several layers of protection, a fabric with antimicrobial properties that acts as a shield against viruses and bacteria (99% effective) and a water-repellent treatment that prevents the attachment of droplets carrying viruses and bacteria to the tissue. Designed and produced in Portugal. TECHNICAL INFORMATION Tissue with antimicrobial properties acting as a shield against viruses and bacteria (99% effective). The antimicrobial finish maintains its effectiveness up to 50 cycles of household washing up to 60Āŗ. Water-repellent treatment that prevents the attachment of contaminated droplets to the tissue. It allows 4 hours of uninterrupted use without degrading the particle retention capacity or breathability. Fabric with fast drying technology. Biodegradable, high-density polyethylene interior face for comfort, humidity and temperature regulation. OEKO-Tex certification: no harmful chemicals are added during the manufacturing process. Tested and certified by independent laboratories, according to EU standards and regulations.

Are these a substitute for the n95s? They certainly won't be as perfect as a fitted n-95 but compared to an average cloth mask, even double masked it's more effective. I have them for me and my boys and we are buying more now that the uk variant and now SAfrican variant are showing up to be safer.

For those double masking, are you reusing the inside surgical mask at all after those quick 1 off trips into the store for a gallon of milk or other such nonsense of daily life with kids? It seems a waste to throw it away after 5-10 minutes of use, when itās most likely going to sit around for another 3-4 days (and thus naturally disinfect because in my mind that about how long the virus is likely to survive on a mask hanging off my blinker wand-thing on the steering column in my van exposed to sunlight and the heating/cooling cycle of a parked car in my area)

Also we take them and cut the strings off, and nose piece (those parts have been used in cloth masks when you couldn't get parts like elastic) and use the surgical mask as a use one time filter in a cloth mask. So basically double masking a cloth mask with a surgical mask inside of it

I double masked today while I took my kid to his 30 minute swim lesson. It took about 5 minutes to adjust to it (it felt heavy against my nose) and it was pretty hot but overall not a big deal for me. Iāll continue whenever I have to be inside somewhere for more than a couple of minutes.

After too many glasses of wine I briefly wondered why Petco would run a super spreader pet vaccination clinic in the dead of winter. š Yay for your ILs! Lol It makes me so happy! Especially that considering their current appointment they had in Orange County still wasnāt until March 4th! Let that set in, they are both over 75 and still were over a month away from their first shot! š so I decided to try the lottery hunger games style since my coworkers had luck for their parents. (PS my ILs own a house in SD county as well, so itās not completely skirting the system since they still had to have proof of a residence). I just canāt believe they are getting their first dose and we got the actual illness. What a whirlwind of a week.

We've started flying covid patients to Madeira as they still have open beds. This is in addition to a field hospital set up in Lisbon. It's really not good.

I obviously canāt speak for all schools, but we currently do a ton of teaching about credible sources and all that goes into finding them. And itās way harder than it should be to make sure you are getting information in a balanced way. I think a big part of the fake news issue is that anyone over the age of about 35 was not taught about the internet as it exists now. I had the internet as kid, but not an internet that was so tailored to give me exactly what I wanted. So if a lot of people in your area think vaccines are dangerous, that will effect your Google results. If you have searched for info before about vaccines being dangerous, that can affect your results. If I want to know if the vaccine is killing people, for instance, and I word the question āhow many people have died from the covid vaccineā, I get several articles along the lines of āinvestigation into manās death after covid vaccineā alongside CDC and scientific results. But when I worded it āis the covid vaccine safeā I got pretty much all .gov and .org results with data and science and no misleading headlines. So two reasonable, intelligent adults looking for basically the same information can walk away feeling more nervous vs. less nervous. The location issue is doubly fascinating to me, because the location based results can change based on whose WiFi you are hooked up to. So in school, all my kids are getting the same results based on our area and what people have looked up on the same signal. So imagine kids trying to get political information in heavily liberal or conservative areas? As a homework assignment this year we had students look up āWhy do politiciansā and write down the auto complete options they got at school (which where all the same). Then they went home and did the same thing and they got different options.

Well, I'm an idiot. Just got asked to substitute teach again for the local school. So I think I may qualify as 1B. I have not subbed since February. I don't have or get pay stubs. I do have a w2. I wonder if that's good enough? I also have a copy of my IL sub license

DD was negative again yesterday. Iām torn because of course I would rather my kids not get sick, but it would be nice to at least get it all done at once. School is following cdc that her 14 isolation will start after our 10 days since we canāt isolate from her. 24 days yāall! Plus I think I would have felt half way safe enough to travel home to Iowa for the first time in almost a year and a half in the next month or so while we will had likely immunity. Maybe, I donāt know. Anyway Iāve got an antibody test also scheduled for Tuesday to see if maybe she had it first with no symptoms and that is why she isnāt positive. Or maybe she has superwoman immune system. š¤·š¼āāļø Iām in this same boat. DS and I are positive. DD and H are negative (but on rapid tests, theyāre getting PCR tests Wednesday). I definitely would rather everyone stay healthy but there are certainly silver linings if they do end up having it. Also my DD is the most likely exposure point bc sheās in daycare so I have my money on her being patient zero in our family and that she passed it on then cleared it before we had her tested. DSās positive was after mine so based on current status it will be 26 days in total š¤¦š»āāļø 3 down...
