And except for age or hcw and teachers with badges The process of verifying where you should be in line may be fraught with error.
Like I have b-thalassemia, which in some lists put me high risk. If I had to prove that would be impossible since its not on my very new chart with my brand new dr that azhcccs assigned me in March that ive never seen. My old dr actually died not that long ago and charts were not electronic, so getting paper chart sent over in pandemic has not actually worked. Going to have to take my word for it

Az preliminary 2020 death numbers Basically 75k in 2020 Compared to 60k in 2019. We have right at 10k of that difference attributed to covid. And 5k due to um. 1.5% increase annually due to population growth and aging of population. Likely due to decreased access to health care, whether due to scared to go to dr or er, sent home due to lack of hospital space, lack of non emergent surgeries

Illinois just started 1B, which includes over 3 million people. I did sign up for notifications from my county, but then learned that my medical group will be sending invitations based on age/medical conditions/etc to established patients (sounds like those at highest risk first, which is fine with me). They're owned by my hospital, which maybe helps? I don't know. But I'm figuring I'll be lucky to go in February at best.
Of course, once you get the invitation, no doubt poor My Chart will be deluged with people making appointments. They also setting up two sites for the vaccinations. So, I'm going to sit tight and wait for my invitation - I figure I'm fortunate enough to have an established medical relationship and so many don't.
In a perfect world, I wish all the appointment systems could have been standardized and optimized. Even just in the area right around me, the pharmacies have different systems, the big medical groups are utilizing My Chart a little differently from each other, etc. It's hard to walk a computer-challenged neighbor/friend/relative through the system when mine may look totally different than theirs.

At this point if you're offered the vaccine and you aren't lying to get it or running over an old person to get it you need to take it.
Eta. If your not hesitant to take it. The vaccines sitting around isnt doing anything

I'm having a debate with my aunt and mom about the vaccination priority. Both my grandparents are already pre-registered for this week's lottery for a vaccine. My grandpa has cancer and several other high risk medical issues. My grandma has RA and other general getting older issues but not nearly as medically compromised as my grandpa. She's been the one doing the shopping and errands, etc. My mom and aunt think if she gets a lottery vaccine first that she should get it instead of putting in my grandpa first. Their rationale is because she's exposed by going out and she is his caregiver. I get that but I still think there is a reason that highest risk should be highest priority. Since she can still carry the virus after being vaccinated and all. I know they are thinking of what if she gets sick and can't take care of him. I don't know that there is a right answer, I'm just curious to your collective thoughts. I don't think she would have the option of passing her's over to your grandpa though, so why not get it if her name is pulled in the lottery?

I'm torn at this point on who should be where in line. I just want shots in arms. I know there are reasons this is taking time, but we need to get moving I am with you. It's frustrating that it isn't working like it *should*, but at this point whatever works to get a shot in an arm.

People in my area are more than a little annoyed with the system here. PDQ - We are in —, but have our own health department in our little place. So we aren't eligible to sign up for the — vaccine website unless our work zip code is outside our village. We aren't getting much supply, so we're still on 1A, and it's moving slowly. We have two hospitals in town, so the majority of what we've gotten has gone there, appropriately, but most of those people don't live in our village. So there's a lot of people in 1A and 1B that live and work here who are having trouble getting appointments/aren't eligible elsewhere. Some have been getting appointments via MyChart with local-ish doctors groups, so there is some hope, but geez, man. Hybrid is starting Monday of next week, and there hasn't been a single district sponsored vaccine initiative. Which is another reason people are annoyed/angry. S, E, and others are vaccinating their teachers with special clinics. Yet, here we are with nothing for ours. I just hope we start getting more supply so we can amp things up here.

I’m frustrated by our state’s reopening guidelines for schools. Our school is reviewing the new guidelines and wants us to decide if we’ll send our kids back in mid-Feb. I looked at the guidelines last night and they still barely mention ventilation and are focused on “kids hardly get it and don’t get very sick”. The adults working at the school, fuck em. Basically. It’s totally kid focused. And whyyyy is ventilation still an afterthought?? Ugh. I really think teachers, especially ones over a certain age, need to be prioritized. I just don't know if I can feel good about in person school until that happens. I am dying to send DD back to school, too. Right, and vaccinating school staff isn’t in the guidelines, but testing and contact tracing are. Which is better than nothing, but... I’d be feeling pretty undervalued if I worked at a school.

They had a clinic planned with our county and with the state DOH to vaccinate 1800 educators that was canceled the day before. It just sucks and I'm so angry for them. And who knows what is happening to those vaccines that are not being used for them. We are supposedly just focusing on 75+ and high risk factors but none of my grandparents or family and friends that fall in those categories have gotten theirs yet. Meanwhile healthy young people are somehow getting notifications to schedule theirs. It just doesn't make sense how my state is doing things and it's a huge slap in the face for teachers to cancel this huge clinic that was planned for them.

They have said gen. Pop. Adults can start getting it here in April and anyone who wants should have it by June. Optimistic, but my employer supports a lot of vax rollout in general, so if they do open it up I think my chances are good. Kids are not on track to get anything. We’ve said we will try to get to the US if my parents are vaccinated, for the summer. I’d prefer that at least one of us is vaccinated before we go, but know the kids won’t be. Given their current exposure level it is a risk I am ok with. All this is dependent on our insurance covering it — which I have heard mixed things about and will need to double check. Do you think enough people will get the vaccine? Is the government promoting it as the thing to do?

Did the clinic organizers verify that the number of vaccines actually were delivered? That's been an issue I've read about in many states...places don't hear til the week before how many doses they're supposed to get, and then the number actually arriving may be halved - if they arrive at all. I can't really blame the logistics folks for being hesitant, at this time, about setting up appointments well in advance. My county is supposed to get roughly 20,000 per week - they're saying on a good week we're getting 10,000. And we're a well populated area too.

It's kind of led to a thing between two school districts. Our largest school district which is fully virtual had theirs canceled last Tuesday and the reason given was they are prioritizing 75+ and high risk more. That district had a board meeting Wednesday evening and rumors are board members and school admin complain that our district, which has in k-5 in person 4 days a week, still had their clinic scheduled for Friday. Thursday afternoon our superintendent was notified that ours would be canceled in order to be "equitable" to the other district. The second largest school district in our state got to proceed with their vaccine clinic on Friday. So it just seems super shady that ours was canceled. Teachers are beyond frustrated and I don't blame them. Especially since they are one of the few in person districts and other districts have been able to get vaccines before them. ETA: our county's officials and the hospital that was running the clinic are very frustrated as well. They were going to use this as a test run for future vaccine clinics they are hoping to hold.

cp3, that really is sad - especially without some logical reasoning behind it and transparency on the decision making process. And yes, I'd be wondering where the doses had been administered or funneled to as well.

blablabirdie , or if you are feeling sassy: OK so now I have no excuse .. I stole this because it is great .. thank you! I also realized my other old excuse and that was you can't do this nonsense on the phone .. but I can't be lazy about this after such solid effort here ... so now I have an avatar. Here's to hoping in a short time people will be like 'what does that mean? What's a Tegnell' because I want to be in that future as soon as possible. And lord knows I probably won't be changing this avatar anytime soon.

It's a thing here to troll grocery stores that are administering the vaccine because at night if they have extra doses, the pharmacies will give it to whomever is there so as not to waste it.

I don't know -- and I'm not sure how realistic the plan is, but I'm going to put my optimism in this basket because I need to be positive about something. People here do tend to vaccinate and listen to recommendations -- but the first treatments went to elderly home staff and I think about 60% said yes. Also, a lot of people have had Covid recently and I think they may opt to wait. Our government is promoting it, but also saying they aren't sure it will be enough. We are supposed to go to phase two next week and that is 70+ and more hospital workers. Purely anecdotal, I know more people in the US who have gotten vaccinated -- I don't know anyone here who has gotten the first shot yet.

And yes, I'd be wondering where the doses had been administered or funneled to as well. Yeah I talked with my kid's teacher about it and she said they were all so excited and would feel better about being in person only to have it taken away with less than a day's notice. And my state has been pretty great through all this and very transparent but the way things were handled last week are leaving people with a lot of distrust. I wish our governor would at least acknowledge the frustration over what happened. Instead she's putting out a new flyer to emphasize that teachers aren't in this wave of vaccines yet. Which is misleading since certain districts have gotten theirs and some have already gotten their second dose. It's just led to mistrust in my state for a lot of people.

I’ve been operating under the assumption- please correct me if I’m wrong - that vaccines hvent been 100% confirmed that they stop spread. Just minimize symptoms. Is this still true?

piratecat made me think of a question I've been wondering. Is there a set percentage of our population that needs to get this vaccine in order for things to start making a turn for the better? I was checking my state's system a few days ago and less than a quarter of our population registered for the vaccine. Which seems like not enough participation to see things return to any kind of normal.

PDQ: I am now working as a vaccine clinic manager on contract. We give it to unscheduled people a lot because we average 12-15% no show rate daily. We still have had to trash doses. So if offered, please take. You will automatically be set up for your 2nd dose right then. *YMMV

I wish there was a list for people to sign up locally to be notified if there are doses available because of no shows or people turning it down. If I got a text or a call I'd be in the car in 2.5 seconds.

I keep seeing the stat that 30-60% of the LTC staff here are refusing it so I'm like hey hey I'll take one please thank you very much.

It appears this pandemic is giving us cyclical emotions. We are experiencing the same frustration about vaccines as we were feeling in March-May with availability of testing and how much it varied across the country.
