I’m a quarter in and really enjoying this book from the girl I knew way back when. It’s like Lifetime Christmas movie, in the best possible sense. I think this is one of her more tame offerings.

I have very mixed feelings about City of Girls. There were some parts that I really loved, parts that dragged, and some parts that were missing something. It reminded me so much of Evelyn Hugo.

I read the first two Bridgerton books, binged the show and then started a popular YA from last year I think? Children of Blood and Bone. I was trying to keep it all very easy to read so I didn’t get bogged down!

I am about to start Addie LaRue and I’m both excited and a little nervous because it is so so hyped.
After that I have a bunch of advance reader copies I need to read and review...including the new Taylor Jenkins Reid which I was so excited to get.

I finished Normal people yesterday and did not like at all. I had issues reading too because the punctuation when people spoke. Part way through I just started speed reading because I was so done. I will always finish a book now matter how awful. I just finished it and was hate reading most of it. I felt very frustrated most of the time with the characters, particularly Connell. I also didn’t like that it jumped around a few months at a time. Every time it seemed something was happening that could be mildly interesting, the chapter ended and it moved a few months ahead without clear resolution. I know there was a lot to read between the lines but it fell flat. I don’t have Hulu but I am curious how they made this into a series.

Overall, I liked the story. The concept was different to me (I rarely read fantasy type books), there were enough twists to keep me interested, and I liked the ending. I do, however, think the book could have been about 30% shorter, but oh well.

I finished The Great Alone yesterday.
I loved her scenery and the "love" stories and the real depiction of the laws back then

Not caught up here, but so far this year I've read the following based on suggestions here - City of Girls (loved it) Beach Read (pretty good) Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating (pretty good) No Exit (decent) Don't know if it's been on this thread but I saw that Netflix had a movie coming out about Radium Girls, so I just finished that this weekend. The subject was fascinating but the writing was not great. It could have been a much better (shorter) book with a better editor probably. Literally every/other page had inferences about what happened "perhaps..." and "for then..." and it drove me crazy. Halfway through American Dirt on audible and really liking it. I’m with you in Radium Girls. Also, i really enjoyed American Dirt.

I finished the 4th Jo Nesbo book last night, and it was super good! I have had so many holds coming up I have read 7 books already this year, much more ahead of schedule then usual.
I got The Lager Queen of Minnesota via an inter library loan so that will be my next book, and I also got Ready Player Two (which I am gonna assume has massed a pretty long wait list) so I know I need to finish both in the next week or two.
I am listening to Murder on Cold Street. I am about 10% in and it's starting to suck me in so I love when that happens.

I’m only about 20 pages in, so too soon to tell.

I finished the 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last night and really liked it. I' proud of myself, I've already read 3 books this month, may not seem like many, but refinding my love of reading has me feeling all the warm fuzzies.

So far in 2021 I've read Addie LaRue (meh because too long), A Man Lay Dead by Ngaio Marsh (meh but at least short), Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine (short stories, so so so good), and now am on Cold Comfort Farm (love it so far).

I think there's a decent amount of historical details, and the fantasy part isn't over the top (if that makes sense).

I'm going to spoiler this in regards to Addie LaRue as it's spoiler like {Spoiler}I didn't like Addie, I didn't like Henry, they were both just not my type of people. I was all in on Luc. I also don't think her plan at the end is going to work. Just enjoy eternity with the hot devil Addie.

I finished the Nightingale. I really enjoyed it. The movie comes out this December and is said to have the Fanning sisters playing the lead roles.
The library has The Push ready for me to pick up, but I won't be able to get it until tomorrow.

I finished Firefly Lane in anticipation of the Netflix series next week. So I cried and I sped through it and was REALLY invested in the story but still:
Kristin Hannah is an author who just straight up uses emotional manipulation in every single book to force a reaction. It's not necessarily a bad thing, I guess, but I've decided she's the equivalent of This Is Us in book form lol.

I’ve never read any Kristin Hannah but that is my EXACT problem with This is Us and why I bailed on it. Interesting! That’s the reason I won’t read Nicholas Sparks books, either. Although from what I’ve heard, Hannah is a better writer.

It's also why I refuse to watch This Is Us. Everyone is always CRYING over that show.

I actually haven’t liked any of her books except The Great Alone, which had really good imagery. There was one where everything came together in a neat little bow at the end that was such a soap opera in book form. Winter Garden or something maybe? I think I might be done with her. I also quit This Is Us after one season. Of course I still watch Grey’s Anatomy and will until the very end but THAT’S DIFFERENT. 😂

Ok, I just finished The Push. Damn. It was really good. I’m not even a mom and I could relate to it.
