I finished Revenger by Alastair Reynolds and it was good but not what I was expecting. He normally writes these super complex space operas and this was a bit more pirates in space fun. Which is nice but not exactly what I wanted.
So now I'm starting A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. I started and stopped it once before but now I think I'm in the perfect mood for it. It's supposed to be an amazing sci fi debut.

polson I'm waiting on my hold to come in again for Anxious People because I didn't have time to get to it before. I'm a big fan of most of Backman's books but they do tend to take a while to get going. I really loved A Man Called Ove and My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry. Oddly enough, I did not like Beartown but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one. I broke my own rule and ended up buying Anxious People at the bookstore when DS wanted to go. I really enjoyed A Man Called Ove but it took me several attempts to get through My Grandmother Asked me to Tell you she's Sorry - and to be honest I don't remember if I finished it. I ordered myself a book light from amazon that wraps around my neck so that I can try to read the stack of paperbacks I have before I need to return them to my sister. Having a light or lamp on in bed isn't an option. I just finished this and was a bit disappointed although overall it was a good read. I loved A Man Called Ove, Britt-Marie was here and the Beartown books so much and thought the first chapter was beautiful, so it may have been I set my expectations a bit high. I always think his observations and descriptions are great, but his characters can feel a bit like caricatures at times, and I felt that a bit more here. But I also listened to this one and didn’t love the narrator so that may have also played into it. Now trying to make it thru Revival by Stephen King

I finished The Last Flight yesterday. I liked it and breezed through. It was a good palate cleanser after a Karin Slaughter book. The story was kind of unrealistic but told well and I liked the characters.
I also started The Herd last night. I was having a hard time getting into it but about 1/4 into the book things started to pick up. Hopefully it gets better.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through The House in the Cerulean Sea. I was literally falling asleep reading last night, but I can't wait to finish it tonight.

Our library is open again for browsing. This is so great because with longer wait times I’ve needed to browse more

I finished From Blood and Ash. It was meh, but I think that’s a me problem. I’m just not a huge fantasy fan and the writing seems cheesy to me at times.
I’m going to read Lisa Gardner’s new book, Before She Disappeared, next.

I finished Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter. It’s the first of a series she did a long time ago. I really enjoyed it. I’ve read some of the following Wills Trent series and there is a character overlap so it’s kind of like going back in time but it’s kind of neat to get full backstories. I want to read the next but my Honda for The Last Flight and The Herd came up so I’m going to those next. oh i read that a couple years ago and remember enjoying it. For some reason i haven't read any more Karin Slaughter but should

I'm reading a really underrated YA called Night Music that I am really enjoying, which is refreshing after 2 books that were not what I was expecting. This is a YA romance, but there is so much more going on than just the romance. (And I say that as someone whose favorite genre is "just a romance.") There's a lot of social commentary on privilege happening alongside a really sweet relationship. It is about musicians, and it makes me wish I knew more about classical music because I know there's a whole layer of stuff I'm probably not getting. But the writing is lovely, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm at 66%, so hopefully it doesn't fall apart at the end, but I don't feel like it's going to.

I just finished a random library find (picked it up because it was available and looked interesting). It’s called The Address and it’s based loosely on the building of the Dakota in NYC.
It was a 3.5, rounded down. It was strangely jumpy in parts and yet strangely, still very predictable.

I'm starting The End of October. Its about a global pandemic and came out in March or April so it was written well before the current pandemic. I'm interested to see how this fictional book compares to what actually happened, lol.

I'm almost done with My Dark Vanessa and woof it is tough to get through. I almost put it down for good after like 50 pages but I'm glad I stuck to it.

I'm so late reading Where the Crawdads Sing. Normally I dislike books that receive so much hype, but I ended up enjoying it.
Another book everyone in the world except me has read is Educated. I just started that as a book and am listening to Ruth Reichl's Save Me the Plums, which has been on my TBR for ages!

I’m about 150 pages into The Great Alone. Kristin really has a gift of writing plot and characters and setting. I feel like I’m right there in Alaska

I ordered the Push yesterday because my library still wasn't processing and I was pretty far down on the hold list. It should come today. I feel it is a book we can pass around my family so it will get its use.
GMA just did another story on it since it was their January book read

I am slowly working my way through Plain Bad Heroines, but I am really enjoying it. I picked up Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas yesterday and I look forward to getting to it soon!

I've read 13 books since Christmas. That's almost a quarter of my total from 2020 already. I've finished all of the bridgertons and starting on the off shoots. Currently half way through city of girls. I'm getting a little bored with it, but expect to finish.
My library has the Enola Holmes audibooks without a wait so I might try some of those.

Wow, you're on a roll! That's impressive. I've read 6 books this year and I'm pretty proud of myself. I've spent too many nights staying up way too late reading though and I'm tired! It's worth it for a good book though. I got a trial of Kindle Unlimited recently. I just finished Juniper Unraveling by Keri Lake and I loved it!
