I wish they had written Eloise as a LBGTQ character but alas that would probably be a Bridge(rton) too far for a period piece.

Except if you read any regency romances you would know that not only are gay and lesbian members of the ton widely discussed and acknowledged, there are quite a few authors writing LGBTQ regency/historical romances. I don't read romance novels, or anything nowadays unfortunately, so I'm only following Bridgerton the show

I didn't realize this was in the works! Queen Charlotte gets her own story.

And I also can't help but think about how he's also "our" King George, so that brings up a lot of interesting stuff too as far as the beginning of the US, etc.

The way they glow these men up for their seasons should be studied.
I was so annoyed by the Colin casting in Seasons 1 + 2 bc he didn't have that leading man look, and here we are.
Same with Anthony in Season 1, I was like "really?" and then yowza.
I also so appreciate that Bridgerton is absolutely calibrated for the female gaze, on all spectrums of sexuality. It's honestly pretty groundbreaking.

I also saw a great interview with Nicola who was talking about how each season deals with different romance themes:
Season 1 was passion Season 2 was obsession Charlotte's story was devotion
And Season 3 will be pining/longing
I'm a long time romance novel fan, and I worked in the industry on the editorial side. So I love that this is all being done so thoughtfully and with intention.

I was very much, "Hello, Shirtless Colin" watching this trailer. ITA with you, STP, that I couldn't have imagined Colin as leading man material based on S1/S2 but now? I'm very much on board.

We also got grown-up Francesca whom I've seen in Flowers in the Attic: The Origin on Lifetime and she was good in that (the series was really good as a whole) so I'll be interested in seeing her storyline.

Recently, I've been catching clips of a YouTuber watching Hamilton for the first time on Tiktok and I keep having to remind myself that Hamilton King George and Bridgerton universe King George are the same and my brain is just how?!

I assume the two parts thing is so people don’t just binge on a free trial, which is annoying, but on the other hand, I need help pacing myself. 😂
I still don’t find Colin attractive based on that trailer, but I’m willing to let him win me over. Love Nicola.

I think I liked Benedict’s book the best. Maybe? I vaguely remember liking Colin’s, too. I will have to go back and refresh my memory. I’m glad they have so much material to mine for future seasons! bumping my ancient post to say I reread it (Benedict’s) after I posted this and kind of hated it, so I’m not sure who I was thinking of 😂 I still think the actor Benedict is pretty cute, though.

Honestly, I hope they combine Eloise and Benedicts, both books sucked and I could handle a season that covers both but not a whole season devoted to each.

Is there where I confess I've not read any of the books? Am I missing out? They're not well written. It's one of those times where the author had a great idea, and a knack for story development/scene concepts, but the writing skills didn't quite line up. She fails on the show don't tell side of things a lot of the time. They're enjoyable enough, but don't expect quite the wit/dialogue of the series.

I can’t wait. I even bought a hot drinks tumbler with a Sorrows and Prayers theme.
The Benedict story was so underwhelming for me. He was an ass in the books. I’m actually looking forward to Fran and Michael. The forbidden love stuff was every trope dream come true.

Is there where I confess I've not read any of the books? Am I missing out? I only read the first 4, and this was a rare instance where I actually liked the show significantly more than the books. The Penelope book was my fav. of the 4 I read though. The Benedict one was the worst.

I love this show so much more than I ever enjoyed the books. As each season rolls out I love to see how much they improve the love interest over the written version. I found Colin to be a bossy overbearing jerk in the book so I’m excited to see the series version. Penelope was always beautiful but is drop dead gorgeous in her new looks.

Possibly UO, but I don't care for Eloise all that much. I should love how smart and independent she is (or claims to be) and I know she feels trapped by societal expectations but it's clear that she disdains other girls and women for being girls and women and their desire for what she considers archaic choices. She comes across an incredibly privileged, spoiled brat who is too busy complaining about everything to even consider how lucky she is. For all her lofty talk, she never actually seems to do anything. Contrast that with Pen whose family is not as prestigious and is overlooked by her mother and sisters and yet she is Lady Whistledown with the ton hanging on her every word. It also ticked me off when she commented about how she wanted "another intelligent woman in the house" and her mother was right there.

I haven't read the books either and I'm really struggling with reading post-kids. It's like I can't actually focus and comprehend anything.
I'm rewatching now also, I just started season 2
They really took Pen from cute as a button to HOT for season 3
