What do we think about this change to CDC guidelines on quarantine duration? Does anyone know where I can find what is considered “exposure” for purposes of quarantining?

What do we think about this change to CDC guidelines on quarantine duration? Does anyone know where I can find what is considered “exposure” for purposes of quarantining? Under " who needs to quarantine" it goes over what is considered "close contact". ETA: And our local CDC has clarified that it's 15 minutes of cumulative exposure over 24 hour period for that first part.

We are dealing with this in one of my kids’ schools, cases in his classroom but not required to quarantine because not “close contact”. I wasn’t sure what they considered for that.

I guess technically you have to be within 6' to be considered close contact (so I assume your kid doesn't sit within 6' to positive cases?) but I feel like if you're indoors with someone for most of the day with air recirculating the distance wouldn't matter, but I don't know. And also, are they in their seats at all times?

Sorry for derailing. But on Covid news. My cousin texted us this morning saying she got Covid. She thinks she got it at work. The only thing that worries me if that she lives in a house with her two daughters and their families. So lots of people in the home and just thinking about how would they be able to isolate each other. It’s nearly impossible. I hope everyone stays safe there. She says it’s mild. Who knows. Time will tell. this is why I found some kn95 masks. If anyone get it or exposed, if everyone can wear a good mask, that might help.

piratecat, they are generally in their seats with the exception of recess, and he leaves the room once a week for counseling & once each day for reading tutoring. I know their desks are spaced out 6’ and they’ve only had 2 cases in the school all year so I guess it’s going well overall - but it’s odd to me to not need to quarantine after you spend the bulk of the day in the same room as a positive case. I guess since they are all spaced out and in masks it’s probably ok.. idk.

catspajamas They may have some air purification system in the classrooms to help filter the air a bit. The purifiers were one of the changes they made to our school for this year to help somewhat.

My kid is under quarantine because another kid in his class tested positive but they're preschoolers so not really socially distanced during the day. Our state CDC did also clarify that mask usage is irrelevant in whether someone is considered a close contact.

We have to decide if we will send DD1 back hybrid in Feb (earliest they think it will happen, and tbh I think that it likely that it will be later than that). 55% of staff said they are willing to return, so that is the max amount of students that can return as well. No guarantees on the same teacher or classmates (but I would think that would have to apply to online only too, if your teacher is suddenly reassigned). We are leaning towards keep her virtual, but I'm having trouble submitting the survey. We chose virtual. I have no faith that things will be better in mid February. I know a vax is coming but I doubt there will be widespread distribution by then.

We’ll have to decide if we want DS to go back to in person by Feb too and I’m guessing our answer will be no.

Good news! My grandma is officially done with her quarantine after testing positive earlier in November and has not had any symptoms since some initial mild ones when she tested positive.
Both she and my aunt and uncle are in congregate care settings and have tested positive but made it through the worst of it. They've had a number of residents die at each of the facilities so feeling very lucky given those odds.

That's great news richard ! We just got word that our school is closed for 2 weeks due to positive cases in families over the Thanksgiving break. H and I are very *not shocked*. It doesn't affect us but sucks for the families that have to scramble now (they were supposed to be back on campus tomorrow).

Time will tell. If it makes you feel better, my step dad tested positive Wed and my brother and nieces live with him. They’ve stayed separated and knock on wood, they haven’t had any symptoms, so fingers crossed they haven’t caught it. They are all quarantining for 14 days.

My aunt was exposed yesterday at work. Her coworker was there working with her when he got the call he was positive. And he is symptomatic so she is trying to figure out the best day to get tested while also stressed about quarantining away from her young kids while she waits for test results which are currently taking 5 days.
MH's cousins also lost their grandpa on Thanksgiving from Covid and my uncle lost his uncle last week from Covid as well. A few extended relatives have also tested positive this week. It's getting a lot closer to us and I am stressed. And just ugh. It didn't have to be this way.

I'm sorry cp3 . It seems like you've been surrounded by close-ish contacts for awhile now, despite being so careful yourself. I hope you all can stay safe.

I’m so sorry cp3 😞 My cousin’s dad (not my uncle, I didn’t know him) passed away 2 nights ago from COVID. It definitely hits different when it starts getting closer to you. I’m so sad for my cousin and her daughter.

I’m so sad for my cousin and her daughter. Yes, exactly. Like I didn't really know them but I've met them at family gatherings and I feel bad for my family members that are in mourning right now. It definitely just increases my worry about it with it hitting closer to my family. We also hit a new daily high of deaths for my state and it's just a scary situation in my state right now and I wish I could do more to keep everyone safe.

My youngest son's girlfriend's uncles father in law (treated her like a grandaughter) slipped and fell and went to hospital, tested positive or covid and passed away day before tday. Her real grandpa is on hospice and not expected to last the week, so she's a very bummed young lady basically losing two grandpa equivalents in 1 week.
