I was on a call with some coworkers this morning and they were all like yeah, it was really low key and quiet, didn't do much... some family was enroute to FL from the winter from MI so they stopped with us for Thanksgiving... my family is all local so it was really great to see all of my family... PULLS HAIR OUT. That is like the opposite of staying home and not seeing people. And this is how we are all going to be screwed.

We're supposed to be back to in person school next week even though the metrics haven't improved. So fun.

lemondrop I'm really hoping the Janssen one performs well, it's the only one I know of so far that is single dose. Compliance for getting a second dose is going to be an issue, even without side effects.

I agree with the multiple doses vaccine compliance being a problem, and not just because of skepticism. I have no fears around vaccines and I forgot to give DS1 his second flu dose when he was a baby. I hope the Janssen trial is successful.

Compliance in these times* is actually pretty good because the stipend for some trials is $$$ and some have a completer bonus. *irony.

At this rate, I kind of would be ok with having a day of sick so that I didn’t have to cook, clean, parent... especially if it gave me protection against Covid.

My 4yo came home from pre-K yesterday telling me about a kid whose Dad has the “birus”. Apparently this kid was telling all her school friends. Cue my freak out, emailed the teacher and teacher already knew about it and had confirmed while child’s dad was under the weather, he had had 2 negative Covid tests. Lol
I did Target pickup (where they shove your shit in the trunk, no contact) on Friday evening. The store was PACKED. No parking spaces. Texas is about to get so so bad. And we are already in terrible share. What’s the color level after red? Black? Maroon? Do we go so far it turns into a 360 and white is next? Cause whatever color that is, that’s what’s coming.

Rebel CO added a purple level that is after red. This was done after over half the state moved to red recently

It was such a nice day for it and it might help reduce our post-holiday surge.

I don't trust the other families in the area though.

We actually did limit our Thanksgiving to just the four of us, but then a (non-COVID) family emergency occurred yesterday, and I ended up emergency caretaker to two kids in our extended family all day. Who just spent an extended holiday break in FL. So. (It was a true emergency, but I am just... man, I would like to hang out with my parents again someday.)

It was really nice here in AZ, but the number of cars parked in our neighborhood makes me nervous that folks aren't taking it seriously. Our state health department reported over 10k cases today. Granted many of those are delayed due to the holiday, but oof.

lemondrop, thank you for sharing your expertise. A question - when you mentioned legitimate illness as a side effect of the vaccination, I think I've read a lot of comments on the web that it usually seems similar to the side effects of Shingrex. I took that one, and both days after the shots were mostly just a bit of an arm ache, a little headache and nausea. I am fortunate - I could just stay in bed and sleep it off. I guess that's what I was figuring for Pfizer and Moderna. Or, just wait and see how I react to it is probably the best course? My internist thinks I'll be in tranche 1B based on what he's seen up to yesterday.

We stayed home for TG and DH’s family is literally not speaking to us. There’s some other drama in there too, but I think they thought we’d come. He has to go testify for his sisters custody hearing next week and it’s so awkward bc they’re not speaking to him. It sucks so much.
DD woke up with a fever this morning. Only place she’s been is with me to the pharmacy last week to get my flu shot and then play with her friends (sisters) that are in our bubble, so idk. Here’s hoping it’s a quick bug bc I don’t want to get her tested.

What does PCE stand for? Is this a dumb question? I'm so glad you asked, because I keep looking at PCE and not knowing. I was going to check urban dictionary this morning and got sidetracked. haha.
