Saving for college scares me far more than saving for retirement. I've heard the average cost of an undergrad education will be about $500k by the time our 3 years olds are heading in. So depressing. That's insane if accurate. But I feel like education expenses far surpass the rate of inflation, so not really surprising, I guess. Between scholarships and our parents, both DH and I came out of undergrad with no debt; I'm really grateful for that and we plan to be able to do the same for our kids, barring unforeseen circumstances. But at the end of the day, retirement comes first, b/c you can't take a loan out, and then kids' school expenses, IMO anyway.

This is insane! I paid €1900 tuition and roughly 600 in books. Campus living does not exist here. Public transport was free during the week and i got €220,- student support from the government each month, if you earn your degree within 10 years it's a gift, otherwise you have to pay it back. So 5 years of of studies for a bachelor and a master equals to roughly €12.500.- (excluding rent, utilities, food etc).

I got my eye brows waxed at some random salon since my normal woman is on vacation. She did a great job! They look better than my normal woman has ever done.

Yeah, yesterday some guy was trying to tell me about how all the Scandinavian and Western European countries were failures. LOL Forever Please explain how thriving public health, education, transportation systems and work-life balance are the worst things you've ever heard of... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tim has a pension through his union, which about 1/3 of his hourly rate goes towards. I will start maxing my TSP next year once he is finished with his apprenticeship and his salary increases. I have 8 years govt service and have contributed from the start. My parents also paid for my undergrad (with scholarships) like flamingo and as much as I would love to do that for Layla (and possible future child,) we will focus on maxing our retirement first. My parents luckily have plenty for retirement as my dad has 2 pensions (and is still working part-time), and my mom has her civil service retirement also. They also religiously contributed to mutual funds for our educations that they were able to avoid tapping into, so they have those as well. Now that my mom has her first overseas travel under her belt, I hope that they start spending all of the money they have saved, and enjoy their retirements!

So the interview went pretty well. I was surprised at how easy their questions were. I think I spent an equal amount of time questioning them. I would probably take the job if they made a decent offer. Yay! I hope they offer you the position!

cagoldi holland is great, but even we look up to Scandinavians! Free health care, 1 year maternity leave, of which the father must take a certain amount, no college tuition, free child care for all...

Never to early to think about it. We had a customer come in for advice last week because he's 3 years from retirement and only has 42K in a 401K. They said they just never really paid attention to how much they were contributing and assumed it would be enough. A few years ago one of my dad's co-workers turned 65 and promptly gave his notice because he was retiring. He did his exit interview with HR and wanted to know about his pension. They don't offer one. He said he always just assumed they did... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Omg. This is a nightmare.

At the pool taking a break to feed C. Our visiting friends have 4 kids--a boy B's age and three girls of varying ages. The older girls run herd on the 2 boys which is great...more time for the adults to catch up!

I just spent way to much time trying to find the listing for a house for sale by us. It is a GORGEOUS old farm house and I've always wanted to see the interior. The owners painted all the original wood work (which is extensive) OLIVE GREEN! The new owners better strip that!

nam2013 I'm sorry for your rough day. I hope it ends on a high note with lots of rest! I just heard my sister is kidnapping me tomorrow, she arranged for me to have the day of! She gave a day of relaxing as a birthday gift, but she said if I have to wait for you to pick a date it'll be November before we go. I don't know what we're going to do, but I'm exited ☺️!

How do you reach that age and manage to be completely oblivious as to the financial reality? I almost wish I were this clueless and could just go through life expecting great things like a pension with absolutely no reason to believe I'm getting one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My favorite co worker is quitting. I broke that work rule again and cried in her office. All I'm left with is my boss, who is never here A grouchy old woman, who sends cryptic short emails with no detail and complains when I ask for more info And the manager who hates me because I filed a complaint against him 2 years ago

vino I'm so sorry. Yes, we call it Grandpa's Garden because there are so many pretty flowers. All the flowers make it easier for Grandpa to see us from heaven. We're taking cupcakes next month for his birthday. I hope you are able to remember the best of him today. I feel like we're too young for so many of us to have lost a parent All the love vino and klong11I hope we're all doing excellent saving so that we all may have very long retirement ❤

Damn, hold a grudge much dude? He's not big on anyone questioning him. He's.. something. His dad was CEO of another bank in town so he's very arrogant about where his career is going. But he made a customer cry about the status of her parents account without looking at all the facts (there were no issues, he just can't read) and I was livid.
