Our hard lockdown is set to end tomorrow, with some minor relaxing of the very significant restrictions due to be announced (eg. We will still only be allowed 5kms from home unless it’s for work and you have a permit for work, but we’ll be able to have up to five people from no more than two households meet outdoors with masks and distancing). It’s nuts and really pisses many many people off (who then break rules) but it finally seems to be working (case numbers wise).

AmyG I don’t understand that at all. Of all places you would expect the doctor to be taking precautions!

That's crazy! How is she planning tog et a 504? Do they have a disability? I can't stand entitled people like that. I really feel for parents of kids with special needs. We are starting to allow kids with special needs to come back Monday to Thursday in a couple of weeks as a phase in process and I know it has made so many people happy. I have no idea. I almost feel like the school is just trying to make it go away. Apparently one of her children's reading score dropped by a lot. BUT she flat out refused to do any of the virtual learning in the spring. She refuses to let her kids use any electronics so they can't do any of the virtual work. The school provided hard copies of the work and she refused to do it with them because she pays taxes and its not her job to teach them. She's been trying to demand the school send her a tutor to teach the kids on virtual days. She tells her kids not to wear masks including in school where it is mandated. She has been kicked out of several of the local Facebook groups for being nuts. I cannot stand people like her. What an asshole

@idubhawksfan, good luck. I don't want to make anyone alarmed but I am still just shocked! As much as we've all complained about being locked down, it really is so good... if I were working at the office, I could've exposed 100+ more families, plus the train commute! I'm just so glad we are WFH. FWIW, testing was super easy here (Chicago burbs), no symptoms needed, no insurance needed even, for certain test locations. It has got to get like this everywhere in the US. I still can't believe it's hard to test in some regions. I told my H your story and he went on a lengthy rant about needing a national testing strategy. I was like, "Yeah, Chris Murphy, we know." We really just need to get to a place where we test everyone periodically. That's the only way we catch mild/asymptomatic cases. If we could do that, we could send people to school and to work.

I feel like an asshole but these are the people I wish would suffer some legit symptoms and not have a mild / asymptomatic case. To show them how serious it is. Although in a month they shouldn’t be contagious I’d think.

Eames wow I’m sorry your guys are sick and I’m wishing mild cases and swift recovery. It really is important to test and thank you for sharing your story because most people would brush off those symptoms and then spread it and that’s how we will drag this on. Feel better soon!

And I believe this will probably turn into like a yearly thing, like the flu. Where we develop vaccines and immunity over time just so thousands of people can refuse to get it and whine about how its stupid to get the covid vaccine "cause it doesn't even work for them." Aka flu vaccine

I'm mostly a lurker here but thought I'd share my masks saved me from getting covid story. My family and I have been super careful. I primarily WFH and am only on campus for 1 hour a week teaching in a mask behind plexiglass. We don't go in stores, restaurants, etc.
Well I got a call from our state DOH telling me I was exposed. When they told me my exposure date I had gone to an anxiety check up with my dr. I was exposed by my dr. I did end up testing the next day after finding out to rule out allergy symptoms. Negative.
We were both masked and her in a shield. I'm certain masks saved me because we weren't 6 ft apart.

Crayola masks are 20% off on Amazon today. I know they're a fan favorite for kids' masks. Hope that link works.

Our state health department is now saying that people exposed to/close contacts of covid positive people do not need to quarantine for 14 days if both parties were wearing a mask. WTF. I feel like our state is just actively trying to kill us all at this point.

Eh...I get it just based on math but that statistic is basically useless because it doesn't account for population density.

This update is incentive for school districts to encourage mask use. How about just mandating masks?! No, because Iowans will "do the right thing". Excuse me while my eyes roll into the back of my head.

Masks have been shown to be quite effective, especially when both parties wear them, so I actually don't have a problem with this.

The entire point of masking and social distancing is to be able to do things while also not spreading covid.

Yeah, our district is doing the same re: masks and quarantine. I am okay with it...I've really come to trust the mask. Honestly school is going great. The district has it's own dashboard so you can look at the stats daily. Right now in a district of 60,000 there are 4 active student cases and 3 active staff. It's like a 0.04% positivity rate. We are in our 4th week.

I think this is perfectly reasonable. The entire point of masking and social distancing is to be able to do things while also not spreading covid. This is very interesting. We’re finishing a 14 day quarantine from a positive case in my DS’s class. Masks are required (except for eating) and no one else has tested positive. I guess they’re just being conservative? Either way, this makes me feel personally better! Our kids are 6 feet apart all day so not just the masks maybe? We have had no transmission be kids in school. It's all been outside
