Look, I make my kids get dressed, brush hair, make beds before school. I believe in that. For us. But FFS at these mandates. They can have some gddamn water. Same. I’m pretty strict plane over here. But WATER? No. Idk. Our teacher is calling out things that distracts as she sees or hears them. They made a class code of conduct agreement in the first week just like they would do in person and she’s sticking to it. I appreciate the structure and rules. But everything I have heard so far has an actual reason to it that makes sense to me. I don’t think the nitpicking or digging in to extra stuff is worth it for the teachers. What do they think will be accomplished?

Our teacher gently scolded me today for letting my first grader "work ahead" - they have 3 Zoom checkins a day, and apparently she did something first thing in the morning that was supposed to be done between session 2 and 3. Our nanny called in sick so it was me wrangling 3 other kids while trying to let DD1 focus so I shrugged it off. I mean, I get it, it just felt nitpicky to me.

DD1 got in trouble today for drinking water during their live math class because she had asked them to stand up for something. I could tell she was having a bad day so I just let it go but if it becomes a thing I'll step in. It's unrealistic to not let kids have water during class. She also went on a big thing today about not just unmuting themselves and calling her name. Instead they must raise their hand and wait for her to see them. But they are also 5 yo and figuring this out and sometimes she doesn't see them raising their hands because there are 15-20 of them. There are 35 year olds who don't know Zoom etiquette. She needs to unclench. I know. I really felt bad for the poor boy she called out over it and she went on about how now the whole class has to listen to this because he kept calling her name. Like I said she was probably having a bad day but man. She is listed as a 2nd grade teacher so I'm assuming they moved her down to K so she could be a virtual teacher and she might have forgotten how 5 year olds are especially when it's possibly their first time being in a school.

Our district is doing a phase in and I thought we were phase 4 but we are in phase 3. That means I realized today that my kiddo is going back in person tomorrow. It has been a lot of scrambling around the house today with only myself to blame.

We are pinch hitting for a double teachers kid and she is live on zoom most of the day. I only have her on days when I’m only teaching DD not doing the pod, but I can’t supervise both. The other day, H came down and goes, “um, rvasc. Susie* is in the bathroom and I’m pretty sure she took her ipad.”
So that happened on my watch.
*susie is obviously a fake name.

Our school board ignored their previously set metrics and decided to carry on with 100% in person school despite 85 student positives or exposures/quarantining in the first 3 days. I am SHOCKED.

I wouldn’t let my kid have water on zoom but only because he’s a clumsy child and I would spend the whole time holding my breath that he would spill it on the computer.

Meanwhile, I’ve got teacher friends asking me if I think it’s okay that they ask that all students appear with shirts on. Uh, yea, dudes. The stories we are accumulating of people showing up to Zoom court are wild. Blatant drug use (in a state where weed is illegal), no shirts, laying in bed, wearing hats, smoking and eating cereal simultaneously, it’s just something. Like people I know you’re at home but you’re also technically on the record in a courtroom. Have some goddamn respect.

Our 15 year anniversary is on the tenth. We were supposed to be in Napa, and then in Big Sur, ending in LA to see a bunch of friends I haven't seen in forever. They were putting together a whole anniversary dinner for us Instead, I will accept with gratitude that my parents are taking the kids for the weekend so we can eat, sleep, sex, and lay around with no one demanding snacks or band aids for the fifty-sixth injury of the day. I can't complain, the thing bringing us to CA was a wedding which is obviously canceled now. She gets to be the one upset. But omg I was so excited. Every trip we've planned has been sidelined by something - MRSA for the girl, then pneumonia/asthma admission for the boy, and now this. I don't love to travel, it takes a lot for me to be excited about a trip and to plan it. Get over my anxiety of leaving the kids. Get over my anxiety of flying. Etc. I am not like a lot of people here who just HAVE to get out of the house, HAVE to travel, who plan travel as some kind of mental health exercise. But once I accept a trip and do the work of getting excited for it, it's crushing to have it taken away. So I'm working real hard on making this upcoming kid-free time worthwhile.

I’m sorry STP. Some of those places are inaccessible right now due to fires. I’m not sure if that helps or makes it worse. I hate 2020. When all of it is rebooked, you better squeeze me in the itinerary.

jaygee, God I'm so obtuse, I didn't even think about the fires. The fires are basically under control at least in my realm, but air quality is garbage. The closest fire to me is over 200 miles, but our AQI hovered around 160 all day. Blerg.

One of MHs clients invited us to the first game of the season at our alma mater. Lol no, dude. Will not be voluntarily sacrificing myself to a bunch of newly released college students. Even with the stadium at 25% capacity that’s still 25,000 people. Absurd.

In the college town that is the literal worst COVID outbreak in the US. I just can't anymore. I can't reason with people, I can't state my case, I can't argue. I'm so tired. Why did someone (or a great number of someones) think this would be a good idea??

Yeah, I was like if you need an excuse just tell him we don’t have a babysitter but really, do you need an excuse to not share air with several thousand strangers in 2020?

jaygee, God I'm so obtuse, I didn't even think about the fires. Oh no. I wasn’t saying that to be a jerk. I meant more like - maybe your trip would have been difficult anyways because of the fires. Idk. That sounds bad too. But sometimes if there are multiple things wrong with an idea or plan, I feel a tad better/less disappointed when it doesn’t work out. But anyways, yeah, our air sucks so badly. I can’t even leave the house right now. 2020 is the worst.

It’s so crazy seeing the differences in responses in places. I really wish we had a president that would put the ban hammer down on stupid shit like this.

Our school system has been operating on a split schedule. Today, they announced we will go back 5 days a week on 9/14. All kids. They admit there will be no way to socially distance. Three teachers were sent home today. One is confirmed positive. One is symptomatic and one is in isolation due to exposure.
Our state has had 9,000 cases in the last seven days.
I am beside myself.

Such a crappy situation. No virtual option for your district? We have two positive teachers and 16 quarantined for exposure in our first three days. 1,000ish new cases a day in the state. It's a dumpster fire, and I never want to leave my house (unless it's to go to another state. Or country).

This has always been my mindset.
But no one else I know, LOL. To this day people still jumping on naked dick like it's not a thing.
I was always the friend buying condoms and pregnancy tests. Girl wrap that shit up, no untested dick is worth it. Only now the untested dick is going to parties and laughing into the air. Me speaking to my neighbor in April “well, if I’m not comfortable enough to ask a person where they have been and if they’ve been using a mask, I will not be spending any time with them.” Not worth it has a whole new bar in 2020.
