I do think things will change this winter, as patio dining goes away. I'm not yet willing to dine indoors with anyone remotely near me, so I assume my dining habits of this summer will shift back to staying at home all the time, which bums me out a bit. Maybe I can build a plastic bubble that I can set up on the sidewalks outside restaurants and eat in there. I will be honest the restaurants I've been in have distanced the patrons appropriately so it hasn't been bad. They have lowered their max occupancy to accommodate this. If this helps you at all.

The owner of the bar in town tells me every time that he would like to see me and the boys come in and eat. I just cannot make myself do it, especially with the kids. I have eaten inside a restaurant one time and I was so incredibly uncomfortable. The staff had all the correct protocols in place but it didn't work for me.

I’ve never liked eating in a restaurant pre Covid so now it’s like not even on my radar.

Yes schools are having outbreaks in areas that should probably never have had in person classes to begin with based on their current cases. But I can’t agree on keeping all schools closed regardless since it will only take 1 case.

We tried once for SD's birthday, and I was so panicky the whole time it was NOT worth it. We'll just KOKO with takeout.

DS and I were having our Saturday patio brunch this weekend and I was listening to the owner talk with someone about the state of affairs. She said that so far, things aren't too bad - she's busy, paying her bills and has the staff willing to work. She said that every restaurateur she knows is looking worriedly at January, not knowing how it'll go. But she didn't sound panicked or anything. Places that have figured out curbside and more casual places seem to all be plugging along.

can someone tell me what the "updated CDC numbers" thing that i am seeing passed around means?
anti-mask people are passing around something that says the CDC updated their numbers and it's like a 0.00000000000001% fatality rate or some nonsense. to be clear, i don't believe it how it's being presented. i just can't make heads or tails of what is actually going on there.

H and I made a pact to eat/drink outside for as often as we can for as long as we can.
DS and I did patio brunch on Saturday, we all did patio dinner on Saturday night and we did a patio brewery/takeout pizza last night.
The weather was simply gorgeous and I know winter is coming. Gotta get those nice times in before we're locked indoors for six months.

Places that have figured out curbside and more casual places seem to all be plugging along. I think there going to be a big difference come cold weather. Some places by me have closed down the streets and have tables everywhere. I think Once those go away, they’re going to hurt. I’m hoping some restaurants open smaller evenings. Like where you make a reservation and they have a speciality pre-fixe menu and time slots. Or they heat outdoor space. I’ve started thinking about how I might start having dinner parties with 2 other couples on weekend evenings, rather than go to a restaurant. Maybe restaurants could sell to-go dinners for stuff like that.

Anti-maskers are trying to claim that most of covid deaths were not actually covid. What IS happening is they're releasing stats on comorbidity. But folx are instead reading that as "well the cancer killed him, not covid."

The outdoor dining model will definitely change things come winter time. I think it will be... interesting, if that's the right word, to see the difference in how things go between warmer areas versus colder areas. We can do year round outdoor dining here without issue, so I don't think we will be impacted much-unless everyone flocks here because there is outdoor dining. You know?

Lately I've been thinking about the fact that gyms have been open for nearly three months, that restaurants have been open in some capacity. We have increasing community spread for sure, but not like the epic wildfire spread of disease that I worried about in the spring. As time goes on, I get more comfortable with doing certain things and going certain places because I'll mask and sanitize. And I won't deal with people in public who don't mask. They released a chart of where outbreaks occurred in our state, and I was pleasantly surprised that none have occurred in a restaurant. Or in a retail store, either, which is nice because those are the two places I go.

COVID probably was but they also had these other things too. right?

I just think some people are still picturing packed dining rooms and thats not what I'm experiencing, even here in hicksville.

In our state, other than nursing homes, it’s large gatherings. Which I just can’t wrap my mind around. So basically if we paused those for a while, we could almost eliminate spread here. It’s upsetting.

And some actual doctors have chimed in and said there is almost always a comorbidity in an ICU death, but the people who don't want to hear that will ignore it.

This is why in person just doesn't make sense to me. You're relying on people to be responsible, and they aren't. They just aren't. The argument of numbers being low in an area...yeah, but it takes exactly one. I keep thinking about how I was in HS in the 1990s during the height of the AIDS epidemic and the whole "you are having sex with every person your partner has had sex with" message was drilled into us. That's been my covid mindset. This is what I've been feeling! I couldn't put my finger on it....just that this felt like I'd heard something similar before.

Our entire school district is currently hybrid (2 days ftf / 3 days virtual, split by last name). We're supposed to go to 4 days on/Friday virtual starting next week. Last Wednesday our HS shut down to go full remote (apparently teenagers suck at not congregating - I'm shocked ). My anxiety is at an all time high, just waiting for my kid's elementary and the rest of the schools to follow suit.

But one of our favorite places in our old neighborhood has Sunday brunch and ample outdoor dining, and mostly importantly, reservations, so we are going on Sunday morning. I am excited.
