Have we discussed these? My school district is doing a hybrid 2 days/week until Nov 2nd at which point if there hasn’t been a huge increase in cases (they have a minimum) they will open to 100% of the time. I have extenuating issues with a spouse who works overseas so we’ll be quarantining for 14 days every 8-12 weeks when he comes home from his rig. This is what I’m worried about. Many here are getting relaxed as most towns aren’t reporting any cases anymore. But the town in MA right across the border has 55 cases and most of them shop in our NH town because we’re tax free. I wonder what will happen in states that have had a better response. We also have the hybrid 2 day thing. But ours has no end date. I do worry a lot. But we have only 2 positives in our whole county right now. My concern is most people have become relaxed and most work in the harder hit areas like Worcester, MA and the bigger cities of NH. We had 72 total cases in our area. But we are very rural therefore most people travel to work. I’m worried that they aren’t testing temperatures every day and they are going to trust parents and sign an attestation form at the beginning of the school year. They are trusting the school nurse to identify the differences between COVID and flu and cold. Lo

Our school is taking temps daily, though they are also relying a lot on parental oversight that they won't drop off a child with other symptoms.

Our school district is also not taking temps. Their logic is that would miss asymptotic cases, which is the biggest concern. We are opting for virtual, but that actually made sense to me.

So I was finally able to put my finger on something that's been bothering me about the GOP defense of 45*'s handling of all this--they keep screaming that he blocked flights from China, and is pushing for a vaccine. Great. Fine.
The problem is, those are bookend measures. One is an attempt to stop the virus from getting here (it was already here), the other is a way out of the crisis. There's nothing addressing the crisis in progress. That's what they need to be called on. IDC how many times they get Dr Fauci to say the flight embargo was wise policy, it's WHAT THE FUCK HAS HE DONE SINCE THEN

This is what I couldn't figure out on Friday watching Scalise go on and on about the flight ban

Meanwhile, my city has begun issuing permits for restaurants to have indoor dining areas designated as "outdoor spaces," so they can pack people inside to eat. No, not kidding. And I 100% get that this is in an effort to keep small businesses afloat. But things like this are precisely why we are seeing numbers rise. The entire elected leadership here is so anti science, and then turns around and laments that small businesses are hurting. I have yet to wrap my mind around it. This community is so small and was already hurting, and measures like this are going to ensure that hurt continues for a long, long time. If we at any point actually enforced lockdown measures and masks, we'd spend a few weeks slowing spread and could slowly reopen. But county leadership, law enforcement, and elected city officials have all proudly declared from the beginning that they refuse to enforce any of them. I'm so angry and haven't found any constructive outlet for it.

I had already seen the Chicago study but it clearly stated that they did not research the transmission rate among kids. But the Trento study seems to have indeed done that and it is worrisome. Sigh. So at this point I know we are starting to see adult survivors with long term kidney and heart issues, but I wonder if, aside from MIS-C, anywhere has seen any long term health issues from kids that got infected. I guess the thing really comes down to the fact that kids’ systems Don’t have as many receptors for the virus to latch onto inside so they don’t tend to get as ill as adults, but they CAN get infected and apparently transmit it easily.

Yeah it was that second study that got me. I haven't heard any long term damage yet for kids, but also not sure who is looking at that yet (somebody must be).

JFC!!! One Baseball season isn’t worth this!! Did you see NFL stuff starting to make headlines? A bunch of players already opting out, coaches and players already testing positive, and the league is already annoyed and "surprised" by the number of opt outs. C'mon football, you can't honestly be shocked about this. NBA. Cancelled, baseball postponed and has likely shot themselves in the foot over starting back up. Like sorry, you should probably kiss your season goodbye.

His wife had brain surgery last year and they have 4 young girls. I wouldn't be surprised if he opts out this season. Also my husband gets season tickets and they have yet to offer refunds or anything back. He would be happy with money just going to the next year's season but geez make a decision already.

I briefly heard something about PAC 10 football players requesting life insurance or something if they are made to play conference games this season.

I hope it's granted to them.

It’s the Pac-12 😁 and it’s more then just pandemic related. They also want to address social injustice, fair compensation and other things. It’s awesome.

NFL really should not try to go. Just pack it in and try again next year. With all that tackling and close contact? I give it 2 weeks into the season.

I want to say I'm shocked. But I'm really not. Those who refuse to protect themselves and others are making themselves vulnerable

Much like our Big 10 but we refuse to change the conference name. Yes, they are also trying to almost unionize right now as the players have more weight, especially wrt social injustice. I just thought it was really smart of 20 yos to understand the long term health risks, especially when most won’t eventually go pro and get $$.

I don't really like that he has it, but this guy is a total dick so I don't feel all that bad for him either.
