I love peloton and want a tread real bad. I hated spin classes prior as well and am addicted to the bike. But the tread would really fit more what you're looking for in terms of an OTF like community and bootcamp type of classes.
I've heard awesome things about Tonal too. Thatd be on my short list as well.

I wouldn't let aversion to spin classes necessarily steer you away from the Peloton bike. We got our bike about two months ago and both H and I are not spin people, like AT ALL. We are once-a-week yoga studio class people, at best. But we had an opportunity to get a bike from a neighbor, so we took the chance, and we have both really loved it. I have a 60-day ride streak going right now, as of yesterday, and that is not something I would have thought possible before we got the thing. The footprint of the bike (smallish) and the variety of classes available through the app are additional benefits that make us both really happy we got it.

+whatever for Concept 2 rower!! Love it.
We are in the middle of basement home gym construction. It will have the following: the rower I already mentioned, treadmill, squat rack, cable machine, TRX (knock-off, though) station, dumbbells, and kettlebells. We're putting a TV up on the wall, too.
I'd much rather spend money and have options versus the same amount on only one system. But I get the appeal of Peloton. And I get that people who actively use it feel that family bond with others doing it. I'm just saying that if you aren't the type that NEEDS that, you might consider other options so that you don't get burned out. There are tons of YouTube videos that can be used as guides.

For people who use the Peloton app on their own tread, is the lack of stats and other tracking frustrating or annoying?
I like watching my OTF stats on their monitors, it helps me motivate myself.

I don’t own any equipment but I’ll say that when I was a rower I had my most bangin body. Erging is a fantastic workout.

Not for me. I wear a Garmin 920XT for all my workouts and get my own data that way. I don't even know what metrics or data I'm missing that peloton offers and I really don't care because I get my Garmin data regardless. *When Garmin is working. Stupid ransomware bullshit this past week. I use the app on a fire stick which also doesn't show the leaderboard, but when I use my iPad it does, so you can see people and high five, if that's also your thing. Just something to consider when you pick a streaming platform if you go the app+your own tread route

I think it depends on how much the leaderboard matters to you. If the stats are a big factor to you it may matter. For me personally, after using the app with my own basic treadmill I don’t see the value of the huge price tag to buy the Peloton branded one for the sake of my stats showing up on there. During the classes they tell you speed and incline ranges and you adjust based on your own fitness level, so as long as the tread you buy goes up to the numbers you want there is nothing lost in the actual workout. I also like that the app is only $12.99 a month compared to the $40/month you have to pay if you have the Peloton tread or bike. The fact that they make people pay more than app users after they’ve already spent so much on the equipment was annoying to me just on principle. No doubt the Peloton treadmill and bike are super nice and if I had unlimited money I’d love to have them. But for less than the price of the bike alone I’m able to have both a treadmill and a good quality Sunny bike and do the same workouts. The experience is a little different but not enough for me to justify the price difference.

I’m satisfied with the data I get from my Apple Watch. There are apps you can use to see how long you’re in each zone that would give you data comparable to OTF. A regular treadmill will still give you distance and elevation gain. The peloton tread won’t track any data when you’re on the floor portion unless you also get the heart rate monitor. Which again could be sourced on a watch or Fitbit. You would miss a lot of data with a non peloton bike and the app so that would be a definite deal breaker. I have the Peloton bike and a regular treadmill and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Of course, if someone gifted me the actual tread I wouldn’t say no. I would just make sure that if you do get it that you’re in your forever home and have zero intentions of ever moving it. I’ve also heard servicing has been an issue.

For people who use the Peloton app on their own tread, is the lack of stats and other tracking frustrating or annoying? I like watching my OTF stats on their monitors, it helps me motivate myself. If I'm doing the outdoor workouts, I do get stats. I use Fitbit/Runkeeper for my tread runs that I do outside and Fitbit for the other workouts (i.e. strength). For the bike, I got the Wahoo cadence sensor and can get those stats on the Peleton app. The one thing I wish I had is the ability to narrow down by # on live rides/other workouts since that's not something I can do on the iPhone app (I mean, I can frantically scroll to find my peeps to high five but can't really do that easily when there's hundreds or sometimes thousands on a ride). But none of that really bothers me.

For a non peloton bike, a workout watch that syncs to a basic speed/cadence sensor that straps to a stationary bike pedal will give you plenty of data. A lot of workout equipment has Bluetooth now too so you can connect a workout device/watch them.

I’ve just had it long enough that I enjoy the simplicity of having the cadence and resistance right in front of me in real time. I also really enjoy the leaderboard when riding with friends. I don’t look for the same things when I take a bootcamp and I don’t feel like the competitive part really applies either. I do love the variety and that the instructors truly keep you engaged and entertained while you’re on the tread.

Are you a tread lover brux? I don’t love them so never considered it. I was lukewarm on spin classes but the peloton has really stepped it up for me. Having metrics on the screen so I can race others or even myself for previous PRs is incredibly motivating and pushes me enormously. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to OTF or even any gym since I have my setup dialed in at home. It’s so fun riding with friends, like HIHers when we do a live class.
I actually bought the Keiser strider (same at OTF) and I use it several times a week if that’s an option.

I've had an elliptical that collected dust.

H says (and I agree) that I need some form of stats or community to push myself. I don't have a good track record of doing workouts at home on my own, like BikiniBodyMommy or whatever.
For whatever reason, the only fitness I've stuck with for years has been small group personal training where I'm questioned if I don't show up, or OTF where I can see visually on the monitors how "hard" I'm working and also compare myself to the people around me. That pushes me to either go harder or not give up.

Don’t you have an office and guest room? What are the ceilings like in there? Ceilings in our main floor are 8.5 feet I think. The office is small, so to fit exercise in there, we'd have to relocate H. The three bedrooms upstairs are small and H sleeps in the guest room with the dog forever unless we actually have guests. Our only real spare room is in the basement where I office. There's plenty of footprint space for workouts in here, but not the headroom. We have a family room with headroom, but do I want to workout in the room with the TV? Please come and walk through each room to tell me where something could fit :-)

The boot camp workouts remind me a lot of OTF, just no rowing.

I definitely recommend checking out all the app has to offer.

Are there ones that incorporate weights or off the treadmill exercises. brux slap me if I’m hijacking too much There’s a huge variety in terms of duration (10 minute warmups, 20 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute, 60 minute) as well as type (endurance runs, progression runs, hills, HIIT, intervals). There’s also a bunch of just fun runs which are typically music themed (decades, pop, rock, specific artists) and they will often include a mix of intervals, hills, progressions, and “listening games” where you add speed or incline if you hear certain phrases in the lyrics. It’s just fun and easy to mix it up. The bootcamp workouts are about half running half weights and are fun too.
