I have an Xterra Fitness water rower and love it. It's low impact all over workout and i like the swishy water noise it makes. I just watch TV while i row though so not sure about the fitness class bit

We have a rower that I love, but it was not very expensive. I use it all the time though. Of the choices you listed, I’d probably go with the tonal system, but strength training and yoga and my favorites and I avoid cardio like it’s my job, so a bike or tread would not be for me.

I vote the Concept 2 rower for a full body workout. That or an airbike which also provides a full body workout.

We have a treadmill (I think Nordic track). We also have a weight bench and all the sizes of free weights that H or I would use on a rack. We have a stability ball and the resistance bands. And the most important part is we have a big ass TV with YouTube access. I feel like we have everything we need for the way H and I workout.
I’m considering the peloton subscription service for treadmill workouts.

I absolutely love my Peloton bike, but yeah, if you don't already love spin, I wouldn't chance it. The tread sounds like it would be perfect for you. As PPs mentioned, the content is awesome. I regularly take the strength classes in addition to the spin classes, with a sprinkling of yoga and outdoor run/walks. The only other thing I would add is at least some basic dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, for more options.

Well, our basement ceiling are 7 feet. So the Peloton tread won't fit down here. Pretty much everyone I know that just uses the app on a different treadmill is perfectly happy with it.

Based on this, I think I should see if we have space for the Peloton tread before I get dreaming about it. I also want to see if I can use the Peloton subscription on another tread with their monitor. I use the app on a tv using a fire stick. It works out better for me for boot camps too because I can see the screen from both the treadmill (the tv is right in front of the treadmill) and where I attempt to do push-ups and weights (off to the side). The app is also only $12.95 a month, so pretty low commitment. This is what I do (stream from Fire TV app) when I do anything off the bike (other than the outdoor workouts).

With height restrictions I'd go row machine.
I'm not a fan of spin classes in person, but I like them in home. I have a schwinn ic4. It let's me set my own pace with the pelonton app.
I'd ask for a budget, then include 1 cardio item, weights (I love my basic hex weights), a mat, and bands.
If you get individual weights, get a rack for storage.

Peloton bike, duh. But I am a bit Peloton obsessed in general and you can't go wrong with either the bike or tread. The bike just has a much much smaller footprint. Do you have a weight set? If not, that would be my other suggestion, but they are so hard to come by right now. I was trying to price weight sets and I can't even seem to find any in stock. So frustrating.

For whatever reason, I had luck finding the last few dumbbells I needed via the Target site early Tuesday mornings. Maybe that's when they restocked? But I was able to get them for pick up.

If room is an issue, I'd go with adjustable weights as well as a cardio machine.

If you get the peloton tread they have boot camp classes that are similar to an OTF type workout. Cardio and weight combo.

We have a tv hung in front of it and I have the app downloaded to the tv and just stream from there. It works great.

Well, our basement ceiling are 7 feet. So the Peloton tread won't fit down here. Perhaps a smaller treadmill and the app? What kind of ceilings do you have? In our first house, a 1931 cape cod, we put in drop ceilings in our basement. H was too tall to run on the treadmill down there so he popped the ceiling tile directly above it out so he wouldn't smack his head with every step. Very klassy, but it worked, ha!

7’10” is also oddly specific. Why not just say 8 feet?

The Peleton app is great for covering any type of workout so I’d have that regardless. I would then invest in some cardio machine which does not have to be Peleton brand. The only holdout though is they don’t have rowing on the app. I have the Peleton bike but also a regular treadmill, regular spin bike (I’d had that before my Peleton) and weights. I can do a full work out using the App and my tools.

I have the Sunny bike (Fauxleton 😎) and I’m someone who tried spinning classes a handful of times before and HATED it. I succumbed to the Peleton hype and loved their classes so much more. The instructors are better, I can work out in my own home whenever I want and wear whatever I want because the bike is right there. And I love the variety and length in workouts. The hour long spin classes were NOT for me. But I also use the app for walks/runs (outdoor), strength, boot camp, yoga, core, even meditation. And because I got the Covid 90 day trial special, I’m not even paying the $12.99/month til tomorrow.
I may want to spring for the Peleton bike someday, although my treadmill hating self also has my eye on their tread - that’s how much I love their running workouts (I do their tread ones outdoors).

FOR ME I'd prob get a bike. Not necessarily a Peloton brand, I'd have to do some research. But I NEED cardio and I hate it and a bike is like, the lesser of the evils lol.
We have a treadmill which I hate. I dont really like running at all but I do really enjoy cycle and I may see about replacing the treadmill w a bike this fall. My favorites for home though are just free weights. And we have a bench and a bar w plates too. I don't know if everything is still out of stock though so you may have trouble finding stuff.
H went on like a fitness binge a few years ago and bought a whole pulley weight system machine too which IMO was a waste of money because it's big and awkward and now that he's abandoned working out, it never gets used. I'd like to sell it. Maybe I should do that while the market is hot 🤔🤔🤔
AND I'm glad you guys mentioned the app because it sounds awesome and cheap enough that I may end up doing that in the fall. Once I start back working full time I think I'm going to cancel my gym membership because between work, daycare, distance learning, etc I just dont think I'll have time to get there. So excellent.

You may be fine with a 7’ ceiling but just wanted to throw that out there! I just saw that too. It looks like we could install it with 7' ceilings, but your range of motion would be limited. When I reach my arms up, I can touch our ceilings, and H is taller than me. So I'll have to research more to see how annoying the limited range would be.

I'm falling into a deep hole of the Hydrow rower. I'm trying to find reasons why I wouldn't get that. It seems like a rower Peloton would sell, if Peloton would get around to selling one.
I think it lacks boot camp / strength workout videos, but they do have mat-based stretching and pilates type stuff, which I enjoy.

Our basement ceilings are finished sheetrock, but we do have part of the basement that is unfinished and spider-y that could be an option, though much less appealing.

I’ve worked out at home for a little over 2 years now. I use YouTube for free workouts. I have a TRX suspension trainer, free weights, a couple kettlebells, resistance bands and a good mat. I have a treadmill too but don’t use it a ton honestly. If you want some YouTube channel recommendations let me know!
I recommend variety. Your body needs different workouts so you don’t get habituated to one thing and it also helps prevent injury. You don’t need a ton of stuff to get variety.

TRX systems have dropped substantially in price. Amazon has it for 169 right now and it dropped to 149 a few times already this summer. Just a thought to supplement whatever you end up purchasing. Do you have one? I assume you have to find some strong rafters or studs to hook it to? Mine is secured to a beam in the ceiling. It was easy to do. Find a beam with a stud finder and secure it with an X mount (cheap and found on amazon).

Do you have one? I assume you have to find some strong rafters or studs to hook it to? You can drill the anchor into the ceiling. However, I think this would be a good addition to a bigger system. It's an excellent workout with a lot of variations but it's pretty self directed and more helpful if you have someone working with you on your form to make sure you're doing it correctly. One of the Youtube channels I follow regularly puts out TRX videos to follow (BodyFit by Amy). Agree i like following what someone is telling me to do.
