klong11 Do Cadence's glasses not fog up while wearing a mask? Mine do it all the time at work and it's annoying.

That old plan sounds like an inefficient nightmare peachsmama. I can't imagine how they came up with that. Glad it changed. Is it a really small school? That wouldn't even be possible at my kids' school with 550 students. Agreed. My elementary school had b/n 4-500 kids and they had TWO car lines at separate entrances. At our school in VA and the one here, parents were highly discouraged from parking/waking kids into school, except maybe K students on the first day.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I have found certain masks work better than others for me. The ones with a bendable nose piece work best to not fog up my glasses. It takes a min to get it adjusted correctly but then I don’t have to mess with it again.

You have to kind of angle the nosepiece so it angles towards your face. It’s kind of hard to explain. I’ll try snapping you a video in a bit. On another note, I saw this advertised on IG the other day and it’s very intriguing. nerdwax.com/collections/products/products/fog-block

yummeecookee We have the kid name in windshield system and it works well. The kids wait in the cafeteria, which is at the back entrance, so there is a long line of cars around the school. A teacher stands about a fourth of the way down the line and calls out the names over the walker talkie. There are 6-8 teachers around the drive up collecting the kids in the order they are called and opening the car doors, moving the line along. It’s efficient. I know not all schools have the space/area to do it like this, so the system may differ.

I guess what I’m having a hard time with is of all the hundred of kids, how do they ensure the correct kid is there right when their parent’s car is at the front of the line? Presumably no other cars can go until the car at the front has departed, since it’s all one big line. But I guess the method of having a teacher patrolling and lining the kids up makes all the difference.
I do believe it works, I don’t doubt you guys. 🙃 It just blows my mind as to how. On the few occasions I had to pickup B around dismissal last year, I would park at the preschool where C went and just walk over to her school bc the car rider line seemed too daunting.

I signed C up for the bus because we we can’t opt in later and I may use it when necessary for work. I’m planning on biking in with him twice a week, weather permitting. His bike can be locked on the rack and I will bike to pick him up those day instead of him going to aftercare. Also had to sign up for all five days of aftercare even though I plan to use only three since they can’t guarantee I will be able to add spots later due to the size limits. I don’t want to be finally going back to work and have a childcare issue.
I’m not sure how car line is going to work and I may drive him in the days we don’t bike if work permits. I know that the parent don’t get out and they usher the kid straight to their class.
Dr Fauci did a Facebook live today with our Governor about the safety in going back in person to school. He said we are in a good place in RI and there’s no reason we shouldn’t send our kids as long as proper precautions are taken. It was nice to have his blessing because there’s been an increase of judgey parents since we had our district meeting Tuesday. Somehow I am on a 30 person email chain about creating pods and there’s a lot of judgement towards those sending the kids in. I wish people would stop being so self righteous about this and be more understanding.

When I was a kid we waited out front and when we saw our parents went out in the loop and got in the car. There were aids out there but for the most part the kids watched on their own. Yes, parents had to wait to get to into the middle of the loop. At my kids' school they have 2 loops: 1) bus kids in the first loop and this is also where people walk-up to do pick-ups. But you just walk-up and get your kid. You don't go into the building, sign-in, get cards, or any of that. There are aids and teachers out there keeping an eye on things. 2) the outer loop is the drive-up. Some people are crazy and line-up 20 minutes before school even gets out. There is one area where all the PPU (parent pick-up) kids line up and an aid is there at the front of the line. Several cars can pull over when they get to the front if their kid isn't right there so you can go around once you get your kid. There are also a lot of kids who walk/bike home. The pick-up line sometimes takes a while so I would usually walk-up to get the girls. It was easy though since I didn't have to go into the building or sign-in or anything.

Dismissal was usually around 225 and I wouldn’t pull up until 245 so I’m only in line for 5-10 min before I’m leaving with my kid.
I do see how if everybody picks up, it would take a lot longer.

Everytime I picked E up, we were one of the first cars out of the lot, before the parents in the loop. Maybe it was because K always seemed to come out before the other grades, but I couldn't see just sitting in my car, waiting until I got close enough for her to see me. People showed up at 2:30 for a 3:05 release, just so they could be in the front of the pick up line!

Mostly because I would just go straight from work and there wasn't enough time to go home or run an errand or anything, so I would just sit and read a book. Although once I was super early and I didn't like be the 1st car in line so I looped around the block and when I got back around there was another car in the first spot so I pulled in behind it. After awhile, since it was always the librarian doing the pick up line, they get to know the kids and their parents and the cars, so there was no worry about hey, are you sure that's the right kid/car.

that makes sense, since you're on your way home from work. I'm thinking of a neighbor (same one I unfriended on FB yesterday) who gets home from work at 1, but still goes to the school at 2:30. We live 5 minutes from the school.

K-2 is in the front of the school and 3-5 is in the back. All the kids stay with their teacher and have designated spots to stand. So the teacher could call 10 kids at a time and they're standing there ready by the time the parent drives up to that spot. If you already have your kid in the car you just drive around the car that is still waiting. It goes pretty fast and we have over 800 kids at our school. They've definitely perfected that system since I was in elementary. Lol.

I spoke to my OBGYN and she's giving me a prescription for lexapro. I took it 15 years ago to prevent migraines so I'm hoping i can kill 2 birds with 1 stone here.
I took today off since I had the doctor's appts this morning and I've cleaned and moved the bookshelves to make room for the piano tomorrow. I have a big box to go to half price books and i was able to get the kids' board games on the other book shelf so the room looks much better cleaner.
Now I have 1.5 hrs to clean, change the sheets and do the dishes before I have to pick up H.

I loved going as a kid and picking everything out. Now everything is dictated. Because it's all thrown into one big pile, so I don't know why I didn't just buy the bundle the PTA offered. There are no fun Trapper Keepers, fun folders, fun pens, etc. I'm really showing my age here. I remember Lisa Frank was always a favorite; then I moved to Sanrio/Hello Kitty. Definitely showing my age! Sanrio took all my money as a child.

How long do we wait, one may never come. NJ numbers are fabulous, we need to go in now so I can at least get to know my students and form a relationship in case we have to shut down later.

This is what I wanted. I knew deep down it would eventually shut down but I was hoping for a few weeks to build a relationship with the teacher and classmates first. I know our administrators are talking about trying to figure out a way to do an outside meet and greet with the teachers beforehand but I'd imaging that will be up to the individual teachers as to if they can and if they are comfortable.

The deadline for parents to decide in class or remote was last Friday. I was back and forth, chatting with other parents, teachers who work at the school etc. I basically talked myself in and out of each decision a million times, then ultimately 'decided' the day of late in the afternoon that we would do remote for the first quarter until Nov 10.
That night an email is sent out to parents that the deadline is being extended to Aug 28th. So back on the roller coaster I go.
Clearly the days are going to be pushed back, Aug 28th gives zero time for teachers and schools to plan.
Ugh.

I fully anticipated school eventually going full DL for a while, but I really, really, really wanted to start in person for the same reasons as you guys. I want my kids to actually meet their teacher and classmates. I wanted a formal start to school.
I anticipate starting with DL to be much harder than ending with DL even though it was new to us in the spring. To all the sudden go from summer one day to it's a school day the next but not actually going anywhere is going to be challenging to get them in that mindset.
I think I'll have them wear first day of school outfits and do their hair to try to make it feel more official.

We’re still in the midst of a jump here and the next town over is doing free testing for all, for any reason, with or without symptoms this week, so I expect our numbers to keep jumping. We had 120 from April- end of July and now we’ve jumped to 270 in the last few weeks. Still no deaths, so that’s good.
But I fully expect for our school plan to change. We were supposed to start full in person, but I imagine it will be at least hybrid. N will be in the M,W, ever other Friday group if that happens.

So Colin will be going hybrid, at least to start. He's in the A cohort so at least he's actually going in on the first day of school. A full third of his class is fully remote, then the A/B breakdown is 10/6, so that makes me a little more comfortable. We'll still drive him back and forth since I have no way of knowing what the bus situation looks like.
We'll be sharing the guestroom office so I've bought us both new noise-cancelling headsets and I'm trying to set his area up so he has everything he could need close by with some useful worksheets and maybe a calendar taped up in front of him. I have a few little decals with his name on them from his class last year, so I will probably hang at least one of those up as well. I know how burnt out he was at the end of last year, so I am hoping having his own designated space will help.

I'm thrilled that the school district is having a desk and chair sale for $2 a piece at the end of the week. If we can snag one Cass will have her own desk in her room and I think that will help.

On FB last night, there was a post about labeling your kids supplies. People posted pictures of where they had put a label on every item, crayons, markers, scissors, etc. I asked if it was necessary? Evie's teacher responded that she is requesting her students label everything. The reason being, if something is on the floor, instead of just throwing it in a bin, they know which student it should go back to.
This seems crazy to me. I'm sending 4 boxes of crayons, 4 boxes of markers, 6 glue sticks, etc. My kid knows if she drops something, she needs to pick it up. Also, labels will fall off. So while I'm irrationally annoyed by this, I guess I need to find time to label every damn item between today and tomorrow, I'm more concerned about some kid taking my kids stuff, than I am her losing items. And because I'm petty, I guess I'll also label her kleenex and clorox wipes as well.
