As far as the 9% goes for schools. During the question part of the presser today someone asked about that and he did say that it was a benchmark only to be taken into conjunction with everything “in totality” and that he will close any schools or areas he feel are in danger. He didn’t really specify exactly what but to me that means that he would no doubt shut stuff down before that 9% gets reached.

Our school is back full time and in person for the elementary but they are spaces six feet all day even with all the kids there so I think the hold up here is that other districts don't have the room

I think the criteria is that we stay in stage 4 and we'll be long out of that stage if we're heading to 9 percent

Oh the reason I asked is because the southern tier is at 3.6 % currently and one county within that is at 4.9%. So I wasn’t sure if they were getting close to the threshold or not.

This is also because it was a holiday and not as many people got tested than normally had been. At least that’s what I read somewhere and am choosing to believe it’s just an anomaly

I think we have our first outbreak in a childcare center in our state.

The Orthodox community is a huge issue here too. Our county is now in red (according to COVID act now). We are supposed to bring students back next week and I am terrified. I just don’t see us lasting longer than a week unfortunately.

My worry is shopping etc outside of schools then bringing it into schools m. I don’t know. It just makes me sad anxious thinking about it.

Does anyone remember what the threshold is for schools to remain open? Is it by county or region? In NYC it’s supposed to be 3% but deblasio said he will keep school open for now because the increases are in specific neighborhoods.

drr why would the hospitalization rate be similar? Wouldn’t there be therapies that doctors could provide similar to tamiflu In the office that helps prevent the complications? the only therapies available are for hospitalized patients right now. Right now there is nothing other than symptom management for people who are not hospitalized. There are a number of therapies that may reduce hospitalization rates/complications that are in the early stages of clinical trials- but they are a long way off and a lot can/does happen between first trials and whether something proceeds to additional trials or is stopped in its tracks

You guys, my son went to first grade today! I fully expect schools to get shut down at some point in October, but I'm just so thrilled that he gets to meet his first grade teachers in person.

I also think we’re seeing so many increases in numbers because kids are getting tested more frequently to go back to school after absences. Over the summer, no one was taking their kid with a runny nose to get swabbed. Now, if they want to go back and need a test, they’re getting one and some will be positive even if their symptoms are mild. To my knowledge, hospitalizations - especially for kids - have not really changed, and that is reassuring.

My mom group chat literally has 3 friends right now who need to get their kids tested for runny noses before they’re allowed back to school. And another friend had to do it last week for a stomach bug. I’m glad the schools are taking a hard approach, albeit annoying, but I guess a lot more people are getting tested now as people return to school and work.

Even with a negative test, they still have to wait until symptoms subside and they’re like, “they will be like this all winter!” I’m torn because it sucks and I know it’s just a matter of time before it’s my kid but also, at least we’re taking a hard approach to this?

I agree, it sucks, but it's going to catch it early.. hopefully. Our district though doesn't make a covid test mandatory to return as long as you see a doctor and they send a note clearing you if no covid test was given.

If anything, it’s keeping our rates lower because all the additional negative tests of these kids.

While the false positives for those tests are extremely low, with increased testing there will be a small proportion that are false positives depending on how the kids were tested.

Our county is at 5.8% positive. Apparently Murphy is having an emergency meeting with county officials tomorrow.

I was thinking today, by the time we got shut down, God knows what our positivity rate was. At the very least, I’m grateful that NJ/NY/CT governors will go into panic mode at the very sight of us trending upwards.

We are starting back school next week. I haven’t slept because now I got virtual teaching down pat, and I have to switch to hybrid but I am still teleworking through October so I will be live streamed in. 🤦♀️😬🤬

A person in the school district my husband went to tested positive and then didn’t tell the county who they were in contact with and continued to do activities including coach football and church activities. The county is considering taking legal action. This person’s spouse and 4 kids tested positive. The district went remote because 3 students tested positive but who knows if it’s related to that person.

And he won’t provide who he was in contact with for the football or church group so they had to put out a broad sweeping health alert to try to get people to come forward that he may have had contact with. Why are people such assholes.
