Come here to discuss your high taxes and low or hopefully declining covid rates. I thought having a separate thread might be good because we are getting to be in a different situation than a lot of places

I'm in CT and we are doing really, really well, but I'm soooo nervous that people will travel here and fuck it up. We have established a new masked normal with my kid back to school and TKD and if it gets fucked up I may lose my shit.

So for our school the big issue seems to be busing at least for the younger kids. I have heard that they are working on the space and masks but it's really the busing that's the problem. We live nextdoor so I'm going to walk them over but for most kids it's not that easy

We have so much testing, masks and Cuomo being Cuomo I'm trying to be hopeful He’s going to make the decision first week of August on schools, guidelines to be released Monday. I worry he’s going to give them impossible guidelines and neglect Special Ed programs again. DS1 goes back into his program half-time on the 20th for 4 weeks of the 6 week ESY because it was the only way his program could make it work and fair for all kids. It is one of the only preschool special ed programs that opened. Many wrote rather scathing posts and letters about how they won’t reopen and how it is unfair of us to ask, while we watch the years of work and services our kids have done just disappear overnight. But DS1 will start K in September, and while our district did open for summer for special ed, we are one of the only ones. I work for the state, and the majority of us are still under WFH unless you can’t orders. Our WFH contract was extended through October, and they are trying to get it through the end of the year. That doesn’t give me much hope for him opening schools, tbh. And I worry that all the other states are going to fuck it up for us

I think we will spike again, I think things might get locked down or restricted again. But, I love how serious people are being. NYC metro is no fucking joke. I’m in the Jersey shore now and yes, some people aren’t being serious, but things are still closed down, you see people taking extra precautions at random places (masks on the beach) and when I go out and make my whole family wear masks, nobody gaf. Like, I don’t encounter that mask hate here. People seem to be either doing the right thing or not gaf about the people who are.

I was that mom stalking the program and signed up for the lottery the week all hell broke loose here. 😂🙈

We still have assholes, but they don’t bother us who are wearing masks and generally trying to follow guidance. Except one ways in grocery stores. Fuck those lol.

What I find the most frustrating is that we have proven that aggressive masking, testing, and restrictions work so it blows my fucking mind that so many other states won't follow suit. They're the dog in that fire house meme and my state is like standing there with a fucking hose screaming "this will help you!" but no one is listening.

I’m in a rural NY county. People are so lax here because we’ve had lower numbers. I feel often in my town like I’m on an island all alone wearing my mask. If schools don’t reopen full time in the fall I don’t want to know the revolt that will happen. Cuomo is absolutely hated in my area.

I get the frustration about services. And special ed is always the forgotten part Im hoping he won't make it impossible but I do think there will be rolling shutdowns for districts at even a hint of an outbreak. For the fall there are some providers doing in person but they a lot aren't. My other son will probably be starting speech again so I'm wondering what will happen. I might pay out of pocket to have a private SLP I know come see him once or twice a month.

Do you guys all have the slogan "if you have to ask, wear a mask" or is that a CT thing?

Should have been here April-May when EVERYTHING was shut down How did you people not take notes the last 5 months? Like, did you think we were making this up?

I’m over here waiting to see what universities are planning to do because I really selfishly want my new babysitter to stayyyy. An idea of what K will look like would also be nice but I’m trying to just unclench because it is what it is at this point.

As my boss likes to remind me, we all know NYC folks, but there’s a lot of blue collar out west that don’t want the government on their back. If we sawed off NYC, we would be a red state. Most people tend to forget that. I’m in a very small sea of blue in a lot of red.
