drr why would the hospitalization rate be similar? Wouldn’t there be therapies that doctors could provide similar to tamiflu In the office that helps prevent the complications? I don't believe the steroids or remdesimir sp? Are given outside the hospital right now. It's just the normal neb and anti clotting drugs. I could be wrong So you have to be admitted to get these treatments I think

I think we find out Thursday this week if we're still starting hybrid on Oct 13. Keep everything crossed for me lolsob.
Remote learning for my K kid is going as well as it can, her teacher is wonderful and my kid is doing well with her work. It still sucks and makes me sad for her because she absolutely thrives in school.

Anyone else starting to get deja vu over what is going on downstate? No, just me? /laughsob I'm seeing MA numbers ticking up (next town over red zone) and hospitalizations increasing sooooooo feeling the same. Fuckity fuck Yeah the town next to me had hybrid in for one week then went full remote due to community numbers. My nephews go there. My city hasn’t brought the hybrid group in yet we are all remote until at least mid October and won’t bring students back in then unless community numbers are below a certain threshold. To me that’s better than the back and forth inconsistency of hybrid then closing on and on. Luckily my kids are thriving remotely and so far no issues. They did great in the spring though so I didn’t really expect problems but with kids anything can happen !

Cher is it a private school or public school? Because so feel like for a public school it’s a very slippery slope. Plus is anyone watching what teachers are doing. I know majority of teachers are doing the right thing but I know I’ve seen just in my fb feed two seperate teachers out at weddings/parties with no masks/distance. I feel like we can’t expect the kids to be held at different standards than the teachers. Public. And I totally agree. Very slippery slope. On one hand, I’m glad they’re setting the precedent, on the other hand it’s a very dangerous precedent to set. And the news hasn’t said what was the large gathering. I mean, were they throwing a rager? Did they attend a wedding? Did it fall within NY’s requirement of a large gathering. In our district, we didn’t agree to anything, our Superintendent basically said on the zoom, “do the right thing.” I think it’s kind of dangerous to just announce certain kids need to quarantine and get doctor clearance if the only issue is a “large gathering”. If the district laid these rules out prior to the start of the year or there was a Covid positive at the gathering, my feelings would be different. But if the whole issue is “I heard your kid was at this and they can’t come back for two weeks and a doctor’s note”, it feels like risky territory and like they’re trying to set an example without thinking long-term.

So far our district has been in school a month in the hybrid phase. We've had 4 students test positive and one teacher overall. All in the HS. I find that interesting

It’s such a great point.

Our schools are only going back for students preK through 6. The high school is sticking with hybrid. Although I imagine they are better at remote than my second grader.

Cuomo said he’s going to meet with leaders in the Orthodox community to formulate a plan. Which, I hope that works.

I am going to Pollyanna all over you. It’s just kind of expected. Not all Orthodox communities but some Orthodox communities won’t listen. But, they’re on Cuomo’s Radar and hes targeting it now before it becomes community spread. De Blaiso said he’s fining people in those areas that won’t wear masks. It’s stressful to see the numbers go up. But it’s also really impressive we kept them where they were for as long as they were. Now we just need a full court press in those areas, which they’re doing. But I do think numbers are going to go up in the area during cold weather. We just need to keep them somewhat manageable so we don’t get locked down.

I know it definitely is related to an increase in the the ultra-Orthodox/ Hasidic communities, which we should have expected with the holidays this month. I just hope that they are able to do some meaningful outreach to the communities and contain this.

But a couple of days ago, I referenced Rockland in this thread because I knew their numbers were up but locally we were hearing there were no increased numbers in schools. So at the very least, at least it’s limited to those communities and not your schools and local transmission. We vented about the same thing in the spring. And during the measles outbreak. It seems fruitless but hopefully with this good cop/bad cop routine with fines and talking to leaders, something works.

I keep thinking about holiday travel bc I know so many people that are itching to go somewhere. My bold prediction is Cuomo requires quarantine for all nonessential travel during that time.

snowyowl are they no longer able to help because of DS1 being in preschool? One thing my parents and I have talked about is that they will stay in our bubble this time even with DS1 in school but masks will be worn once we have to start transitioning our time to being in the house for any extended period of time. Is that an option for them? My dad is high-risk and while we’ve tried mask-wearing together, the four year old and particularly the two year old just don’t fully understand the need to keep them on. Historically my parents have locked themselves down with any new change (various family members going back to work, school, daycare). And then we’ve felt out a new normal from there. My mom in particular struggles with not seeing grandkids. So hopefully we can work out some compromises, but I think the days of them taking the four year old into their house so I can bring the two year old to speech and OT are over for awhile.

Yeah, honestly I don’t see talking to them really helping. But maybe the mask enforcement? Like, why can’t people just wear masks? It’s annoying.

I wonder if numbers stay the way they are if theres a chance we could go back to fully in person next semester?
Our district hasn't said anything for or against it. Just that we will stay in whatever phase is chosen for the whole marking period (besides going to fully remote if its warranted).
Has anyone else's districts said anything about this?
