I lied- my county's positivity rate is 5.2 and neighboring county is 3.7 so I'm unhappy again. And everyone has a different metric for what an acceptable positivity rate is so I don't even know if 5 is shitty or not (I mean, I get that it's not Arizona or Florida or whatever. )

I read somewhere that one of the biggest indicators of CV spread is density and NYC and surrounding counties are the densest place in the country. I think it’s kind of inevitable our numbers are gonna go up. We’re moving indoors, everyone that ran away in the spring is returning to the area, it’s just ripe for increasing numbers. But now with masks, distancing, metrics on when to shut down, I don’t feel like it’s going to be like it was in the spring, where by the time we actually started with the stay home movement, we were in full throes of an outbreak.

Anyone else starting to get deja vu over what is going on downstate? No, just me? /laughsob I’ve stepped back a bit with looking at the data. Are they spiking again? Brooklyn, rockland and orange counties. Rockland had 6.something positive

Anyone else starting to get deja vu over what is going on downstate? No, just me? /laughsob Positivity rate in the city moved from 1% to 1.02%, I don’t think it will be the same as the spring because we know what to do now. If it keeps going up, guaranteed Cuomo will reel it in. It’s really not bad here. Westchester is holding strong at 1%. I think we’re going into the city this weekend. I’m not talking about general NYC. Clusters, zip code watching, state deployment to specific downstate areas

I was looking at rockland county that was showing up as 6.7% earlier. I looked when cuomo tweeted a few specific counties to get their act together. That’s the kind of dashboard results that make me anxious

They love to drag it out.

I think Rockland, Brooklyn and Orange all have outbreaks within the Orthodox communities. My mom group on FB yells about no one wearing masks in BK, then other moms call them anti-Semitic and round and round they go.

Lowest in the country? School! Seriously, if not now, when? And coming from someone that went to a dark place from too much family quarantine, I can guarantee you it will be a game changer for everyone’s mental health. Yeahhhhh. We're at or under 1% and our schools have no timeframe for resuming full time in person school. I see other states doing it with higher rates than us and it's maddening. I need DD1 to go everyday. She LOVES school and learning, unless I'm her teacher at home. Not a fan. I really hope this doesn't taint her love for school. we're at 4.8% and they're talking about bringing kids back. Makes no sense.

I checked our percentage last Thursday. It was 6.7% and all our school districts are scheduled to begin hybrid October 19th. I chose for DD to stay remote, but I will have to be in the classroom. 😕

Fridays H is home with DD doing remote school. Her teacher is doing a good job with a schedule but obviously some kids are going to take longer with certain tasks than others so DD needed more stuff to do last week. He was scrambling to figure stuff out and just gave her some of the workbooks we used this month. He told me now that he knows what it's like on home days he can plan better. Welcome to my world H 🙂. This is how I figured it out too and went looking for more things for her to do in between Zoom meetings, lunch/recess and specialist times.

So apparently NY is sending rapid testing sites to 10 hot spot zip codes. The only non NYC areaish is like 10 minutes from my work 😬. I’ll just stay here in my wfh bubble for now.

Right I bet it’s very specific areas within each county-my parents are in rockland but not in the ‘uncooperative’ area

I knew the colleges coming back and school starting this was coming. It seemed inevitable, just hoping it doesn’t get too out of control heading into cold/flu season.

At this point, it’s almost comforting the familiarity of it all. Oh we’re doing a great job at this but you’re going to refuse to wear masks and keep having large gatherings? Thanks, Rockland!

I think where most of our numbers are coming from. Our town and the next town over have a huge Orthodox population. Most of our neighborhood is Orthodox. I live in a never ending state of anxiety lately.

It was nuts-I couldn’t have my youngest bday party at a gymnastics place in rockland when that was happening bc her friends’ moms we’re a little nuts and wouldn’t go anywhere in rockland when that was going on (they had all had both vaccines so I wasn’t worried).

A number of high school students local to me attended a large gathering over the weekend. The school district found out about it and said they’re not allowed back for 2 weeks and need a letter from their doctor clearing them. I think it’s kind of a slippery slope but I’m hoping this sets a precedent and people hesitate to do anything knowing the schools will take a hard line.

DS1 goes back to preschool today. I have no idea how he will even respond to being around other kids, he’s been with his little brother pretty much exclusively since March. I hope he’s not a disaster 😂
This also marks the cutoff of my parents helping us out with any kind of childcare. I get it, but I’m also bummed about how much more complicated my life is about to come.

Cher is it a private school or public school? Because so feel like for a public school it’s a very slippery slope. Plus is anyone watching what teachers are doing. I know majority of teachers are doing the right thing but I know I’ve seen just in my fb feed two seperate teachers out at weddings/parties with no masks/distance. I feel like we can’t expect the kids to be held at different standards than the teachers.

snowyowl are they no longer able to help because of DS1 being in preschool? One thing my parents and I have talked about is that they will stay in our bubble this time even with DS1 in school but masks will be worn once we have to start transitioning our time to being in the house for any extended period of time. Is that an option for them?

Hospitalization rate would be similar. we would likely see the difference in mortality and some of the long term morbidity complications.

drr why would the hospitalization rate be similar? Wouldn’t there be therapies that doctors could provide similar to tamiflu In the office that helps prevent the complications?
