So, NY friends, I just put my name on the waitlist for SNL tickets. 😬 They’re asking you request tickets for only people in your germ family, you will be sat with them, mask required, Covid tests at the door AND healthcare workers will be given priority. If anyone local is interested, just passing it on. Is there a link for this? Yeah, girl. Looks like it’s open to only healthcare workers now. But I think they’re doing it every week. 1iota.com/show/462/saturday-night-live

Based on where you are with incredibly low numbers (don’t you all have the lowest #s in the nation?), I would definitely push hard to either send them or get some concessions for outside help from your H. Virtual school sounds untenable long term for your family. We do have the lowest numbers in the nation and they have been pretty cautious here. I told H to call the principal and talk with him about the precautions at the school and I think we are sending them. I just ordered a bunch of masks for them. Lowest in the country? School! Seriously, if not now, when? And coming from someone that went to a dark place from too much family quarantine, I can guarantee you it will be a game changer for everyone’s mental health.

I brought DD to the pediatrician for her well child today. I asked him pointedly about the covid vaccine (his office does not accept unvaccinated patients and does not delay without medical reason). He made me feel better about starting to become hesitant over a covid vaccine- essentially, he will review the studies and see what happens over the first few months before he starts offering them in office. Said he did the same when DTaP came out and varicella. It made my pro-every vaccine self feel better about pausing over this one

I put home school on the table because I think being able to structure it a different way might be helpful. pull that right back off the table immediately. Your H has given you an unrealistic set of expectations that make home learning impossible (silence, TWO STUDENTS, ONE TODDLER, etc etc etc). Off to school they go! If it was me, they are going back to school. Typed as I try to work from my kitchen, while DD uses my desk since her pod is closed today and manages to drop a pencil every two seconds, and H has decided he must eat lunch right this instant.

For doing the right thing you get a nice shiny reward....school. We are opening schools for some of the students next week. Our numbers are higher than when schools closed. I don’t see this ending well. Especially when apparently 2 or more unrelated cases in the same school will close and switch to virtual for 2 weeks.

yeah... i mean, i know it only takes a small number of parents/families to ruin entire districts for everyone, but... i don't know. so far so good. i'm completely comfortable with where my kids are and they have been full time for 4 weeks. if we have to bring them home again, then ok. but my mental health had to try it and no regrets. Same. I feel like with all the precautions in place, it’s much lower risk than I felt going into it. And my area is doing such a good job thinking outside of the box. Schools are closed today for Yom Kippur so a local Rec center is hosting an outside golf camp for kids. Usually they would just host a camp for kids to run around. But they sent out an email saying it’s one of the easiest sports to socially distance. So my kid is masked up and outdoors all day, learning how to golf. I tried to get my kids golf lessons this fall for this very reason but everyone must have had the same idea bc they filled up in *minutes*

I was listening to Onondagas briefing the other day and their executive said the requirements the state has put forth about requiring a doctor note and negative test have really stretched drs and urgent cares thin. And the head of their health department who works with SUNY upstate believes it to be overkill too. They did just gain approval for the saliva test so I’m hoping that since we are in their region they will allow others to start using it as well. So, I got confirmation today this did not come from the state HD, if you were curious. It’s either state ed mandating it or the locals, but it isn’t the state HD

We're at or under 1% and our schools have no timeframe for resuming full time in person school. I see other states doing it with higher rates than us and it's maddening. I need DD1 to go everyday. She LOVES school and learning, unless I'm her teacher at home. Not a fan. I really hope this doesn't taint her love for school.

If you want an anecdote, my kid loves school more now because he saw how not cut out for distance learning we are. He cried when I told him he had a long weekend.

She asks everyday that she isn't in school what day it is because she wants to be there so badly. She was up at 8pm last night finishing Friday's work that she whined about doing on Friday 🤦🏻♀️

FWIW (in CT) Our pediatrician just said that based on our level of conservativeness she would suggest it is safe to send our kid to school even with the newborn. She also suggested to keep our circle closed and tight and have him start showering and change clothes immediately when he gets home from school. She said if the numbers start to go up-- pull him.

I suspect this advice is specific to having a literal hours old newborn in the home so factor that in as you will.

She basically said that the recommendation is to be minimalist with exposure. She is familiar with our district and said that since we have so few vectors of exposure, the benefits to my oldest outweigh the risk as long as we stay vigilant and keep everything else closed down. Basically the Covid version of pick either wine, or bread with dinner or dessert but not all three lol.

Basically the Covid version of pick either wine, or bread with dinner or dessert but not all three lol. That makes sense. Right now, my 3YO is the only one being exposed outside of the home. It's 12-18 kids and most of them not wearing masks (except for one or two 5YOs) so that's kind of nerve-wrecking, not to mention him having come home with a runny nose after 3 whole days back, but it would also not be great for him to be home full time with a newborn. Our statewide positivity rate is 0.4% currently, although my county is probably a bit higher than that.

Anyone else starting to get deja vu over what is going on downstate? No, just me? /laughsob Positivity rate in the city moved from 1% to 1.02%, I don’t think it will be the same as the spring because we know what to do now. If it keeps going up, guaranteed Cuomo will reel it in. It’s really not bad here. Westchester is holding strong at 1%. I think we’re going into the city this weekend.
